I just called WZBH 93.5 The Beach, Lower Slower Delaware and the rest of the DelMarVa Peninsula.
Spoke to a dj named Crank.  I asked him if they're playing the new GNR song tomorrow, and he said yes, when they get it.  He said the dj on from 3 to 7 will get first crack at it tomorrow afternoon. 

He was mostly supportive, but needless to say, he wasn't holding his breath.  He saw 'em live in Baltimore in '06 and really liked the show.  He thought the new stuff was good.  For somebody who knew his GNR and enjoys the band...he seemed pretty out of the loop when I was mentioning the leaked demos.  Honestly, like 95% of the general rock population doesn't know jack about leaked demos, etc.  The album will do very, very well.  It's too good not to.

I was actually worried that everyone would be so geared up to hate and vent on this song and GN'R that there would be no positive feedback.  I'm glad some people are actually open-minded and able to take the song for what it is:  a good rocker.  Not some completely original, genre-redefining masterpiece, but just a damn good rocker.

93.3 WMMR in philly has a very negative view towards Axl. Pierre just played the song and said he just feels that if Axl apologized all would be forgiven. Several fans feel the same way, but i've heard some major positive feedback from people and some other DJs regarding the song. Pierre said he hopes his station does not support someone that did this to the city and that has homophobic views. He then said it's up to the "men in suits" to decide if it gets added to the regular rotation.

He then read responses directly from the blog i posted above (they were about 50-50). anyone that has a free minute should post. i wouldn't try to argue - you're not gonna convince people. but just say how it's a great song that you want to hear. let's help make them HAVE to play it.  : ok:

Philly is the 5th or 6th largest market in the U.S. and WMMR is the most popular rock station here. the more it gets played the better.

i agree with you guys. and i know the large majority of people that bitch weren't even at the show and hated Axl to begin with. even Pierre admitted he isn't much of a fan of GnR's old music and thinks they are "overplayed" on radio. gimme a freakin break!

on a side note, another DJ at the station is Matt Cord. i believe he is friendly with Tommy Stinson. i hoping he's more pro-gnr and helps get CD in regular rotation.

I know MMR's decision to play it or not isn't gonna make or break the album, but every little bit helps.

I totally agree Ali. I don't think there is only really hardcore gnr fan that hasn't had to deal with at least one cancelled show. I have had to deal twice. And one of those times was a flight and hotel that I still had to pay for. And I don't blame the Band one fucking bit!!!

I have him an email why it's pretty lame to hold 6 year grudges all that. I can agree standing up 2 sold out shows in Philly is LAME. But so is what he's doing.

I got in my car today as I was leaving work, and had the radio on a station I dont normally listen to.  First song that came on was CD.  First time I heard it on the radio.  It was on X107.5 in Las Vegas.  Made my day! DJ's didnt comment on it at all though.

Yeah that was pretty awesome.  Artie really seemed to dig the track.  Of course, TWAT was just the demo, but CD was legit.  Howard said he liked it, BUT, said people wouldn't care anymore because it's taken so long.  Artie was into it though, and asked his assistant (or whatever the hell Teddy's title is these days) to get the album for him.

KOMP 92.3 in Las Vegas plays a shitload of Gn'R everyday. IMO they're the best station I've ever listened too....I rarely pay for a concert I win so much free shit from them.

BUT....  they are being a bunch of dumbasses now....they refuse to play the new tune. This morning they played Don't Cry, then they talked about the new album and how the single was being played everywhere, but they just aren't going to play it. I called the afternoon guy yesterday and asked him to play it, he said he couldn't, and I asked him why and he said "I just do as I'm told".

Email them, call them, bombard them....get them to play the fucking song. They are depriving a huge market of New Guns N' Fuckin' Roses.

I spoke to Consumer Relations over the phone last night, and they encouraged us to send Best Buy our thoughts on some midnight releases for ChiDem. They reiterated what they told me in the e-mail that nothing is set in stone regarding that yet.

I know it's not technically a poll or a radio station. The e-mail is cr@bestbuy.com - A basic e-mail requesting some midnight releases will definitely increase the chances of grabbing this album a couple hours early!

Hey, like I told you before I usually listen to 107.5 Xtreme Radio, and they've been playing it.    I was in Phoenix all day yesterday, but when I was coming back into the valley late last night I switched the station to Xtreme Radio and they played it.   

Sucks about KOMP.   Wednesday morning, Carlota said the new album was finally coming out but that it was a greatest hits package with a couple new songs thrown in, and she said they WOULD be playing it.   Whats odd is I've turned it to 92.3 a few times in the last week to find them playing songs like Nightrain and Civil War.

I emailed her and corrected her on the album.    But it looks like we need to get a little aggressive here because it would suck for only one of our rock stations to be playing new GnR relelases.    Why the fuck are they playing Nightrain?

I'm also in CT, and put in a request that, if they do it "smaller scale" at only some stores that they use the West Hartford store for us in CT.  As you know, I'm sure, it's probably the most centrally located BB, and the exterior set up sort of lends itself well to a good "line up".

They played the song today during Kayla's shift and she read an e-mail from a listener (Ryan) who said the song was great and much better than any of the other crap that gets released today.  So if you gave a animated recording it could get played.  I gave one too, but nothing special, straight to the point.

I've been calling and requesting online for CD on 98 Rock and DC101, and it's getting no love whatsoever..... But they'll play the shit out of the new Metallica and AC/DC songs.  What the fuck  ???  How can people have an opinion on the song when it's not even being played ? :-\

I talked to Roche on DC101 and I believe they've only played it 4 times since it has been released. He said on-air that it has begun to grow on him and he likes it more and more.

I heard it once on DC101 and that was after I requested it.  Nothing on 98 Rock, why so much for Metallica's new "old" sound, but not love for Gn'R I find it a bit one sided.

As for the Vancouver cage match, I thought Vancouver was in the same class as St. Louis and Philly. Those three towns have a "grudge" against Axl. That is why they "boycott" Gnr because logistically speaking, it is almost impossible for Motley Crue to beat Gnr. So, it had to be a planned assault against new Gnr. No big deal. Vancouver hates Axl at this time.

good point.  Just another city full of people Axl pissed off along the way.  I don't get how people can't get over it though.  I'll use the New England Patriots as an example.  Back in the late nineties/early 2000's they were real close from moving the team from Foxboro to Hartford, CT.  People from CT, like myself, were psyched thinking CT was getting a major sports team.  The plan fell through at the last minute though and it appeared that the owner of the team used CT to get leverage and he never really wanted to move the team in the first place.  People from CT were pissed, claiming they would now be Jet or Giant fans, even the governor.  Maybe some people still feel that way, but I don't know anyone who does.  We've all gotten over it, why can't Vancouver, Philly, St. Louis, etc.?  Maybe it'll just take GNR to rule the world again for that to happen.  The Pats won 3 Super Bowls along the way, so maybe that stopped fans from jumping ship.

WBCN has played the song 17 times this week, mainly during the overnight, midday, and evening hours.  It is currently the 7th most played current song on that station, behind Weezer, Rise Against, Offspring, AC/DC, Metallica, and Snow Patrol.

For me it was all jokes; in all honesty fair to say not the most mature, but if you take notice prior to my email he was rude, not that i wasn't but his response was little different then people stopped giving a shit in 88, dont ya think, yeah?

I think there is a danger of stations being spammed and its obviously due to fan sites, that might have a negative effect in the long run.

I text or email my local station, Rock Radio which is in the West of Scotland every few days and it usually comes on within an hour, I dont bother with Radio 1 because I dont listen to it and they usually have the show planned out beforehand.

If the song actually gets released for purchase then it will chart and it will get airplay on Radio1, they only really give shit about the top 20 or the bands that have been charting high for the last couple of years.

Some of you guys need to do a little homework before emailing DJ's.  If the song is already in rotation, there is no need to call and request it, and certainly not send an email that is so childish that it could back fire for GNR.  If the song is in rotation, it will be played a few times a day and plenty of people will hear it.  Now if a station just isn't playing the song at all, then yeah, make a call or send a quick email.  But continuely sending emails will probably only get them irritated about GNR fans and might even cause them to not play future material as much.  Im embarassed as a fan of GNR after reading that last email about someone sucking Axls dick.  

For example, earlier I posted that im in palm springs and hadn't heard them play it here in a couple days.  I simply made a call and talked to the girl. She said it wasn't in the rotation, but that it should be because she was getting requests.  I said ok, but it would be cool to hear it.  An hour later, it was played by another DJ.  So I called the new DJ who played it and thanked him for playing it, saying that it was good to hear. Its that simple people.  Don't make a bad name for GNR or the fans.

What the DJ asked me next was interesting however.  He asked if i was a record guy?   I said no, and he said don't Fuck with me... lol  I said no again and asked him why as i was curious now.  He said that they have been getting calls from people outside the area requesting the song to make sure that its getting played.  He said that record companys do this for some bands.  This made me think that the record company has people working to make sure this song gets out there to people, which will only help sales. I found this interesting and it told me that i don't think we need to worry too much about GNR getting out there.  

However, it kinda made me worry for another reason.  If GNR has people calling all over the states or even world, how exact are those official numbers of Chinese Democracy being played on the air?  Is it really a true indication of people wanting it or are the numbers scewed because of the record company pushing it?  

Ill be anxious to see how sales go with the album.  Because i would bet that the numbers on chinese democracy are indeed a little scewed.  It just seems to me that for every person out there who might like this song, there are 10 people who can't get over the fact that slash is gone, dont like Axl, or just don't care to hear about GNR anymore.

For these reasons, i can't wait to see GNRs huge promotional plan keep unfolding as i believe they will need it.  I really believe its like starting over for Axl and that he and GNR need to do as much as they can to sell this thing and get big again.  That is of course if they do want to be huge again.        

It's possible that the label has people calling in requesting the song.  But, the fact is, that DJ doesn't know that.  He's just speculating.  It very well could be fans.

Record companies have in the past pushed radio stations to have their artists' songs played.  I don't think it's anything new.  But, more importantly without quantifying how much it has happened at this radio station and at radio stations across the country, it's impossible to say how much of a skewing effect, if any, it is having.

Any and every band that has a devoted fanbase gets the word out to get their songs played on radio.  It's nothing new.  I'm sure Metallica fans, ACDC fans, they've all done their part to push forward their favorite bands popularity.  I don't think the answer is for GNR fans to NOT call and request the song, just so we can see how the song would do without our help.  I will agree, we should be a little more courteous in telling DJ's off.  Let's not go overboard.  Some DJ's have their own agendas, but in the end they really don't have that much control over what they play.  If a DJ hates Axl, yet GNR is getting major requests, they can't refuse to play the song.  Well, maybe they could, but I don't think the program director would be happy with them.  So I say keep requesting, keep voting, keep doing what you're doing, let's just not resort to being internet tough guys and insulting and swearing at DJ's across the globe.  There's other ways to go about it.

CD has been #1 for four days straight on WKLQ in Grand Rapids, MI.  You can go to their web site and request the song.  The song with the most requests during the day gets the #1 spot for the countdown that starts at 5 PM est.  The next round of votes would begin tomorrow.

Six words I never thought I?d say: ?Chinese Democracy on 102.1 the Edge?. Is that six words? ?102.1? is a number. In word form its five I guess. One-oh-two-point-one. Could have gone with ?CFNY?. That?s not really a word either. Maybe just ?the Edge?. We?re off topic.

Chinese Democracy. Some music fans thought that would become a reality before Guns N? Roses released another song. HEY OH! Seriously though, it took forever for this song to come out.

Now it?s out. Do you like it? Was it even possible for this song to live up to it?s hype? Probably not. Jesus could?ve replaced Slash and there?d still be cynics, ?whatever, it?s not as good as his last resurrection.?

Let?s be honest though, the song isn?t that bad. Axl wails like we want him to. The guitar and drums are fist pumpin good throughout the verses. The chorus is weak. Axl goes too deep and there?s zero hook. As for the lead guitar?it?s not Slash. That might not be fair but that?s reality. It?s like watching Michael Jordan when he played for the Wizards, ?hey look, MJ is wagging his tongue!? Yeah cool, but he?s 40 and the team blows.

Soda drinking Americans will love this song. Last March Dr. Pepper announced it would giveaway free cans of the beverage should GN?R release their LP before 2009. Dr. Pepper told MTV News that, while additional details will be forthcoming, the company's plan to distribute free cans of its product will involve some sort of an online coupon system.

So. Chinese Democracy is out and being played on 102.1 the Edge. The song is good. If it were released by Nickleback or Staind it would be a top 40 hit in rural Canada and America. The fact that Axl Rose sings the song and the name Guns N? Roses is attached to it takes it to the next level in main stream media. Ah the main stream, these waters are frigid.

I text and email a request to KROCK in NYC everyday. The DJ's seem to be loving it.

The DJ tonight (forgot his name) said that apparently someone from Cypris Hill said this isn't "really" Guns n Roses anymore because Axl's the only one left from the original but the DJ doesn't care because people have been texting him all night to play the song (me being one of em) so he will.

this song really does grow on you and I'm sure the more the "haters" hear it, the more tjey'll like it :P

I remember when November Rain came out a lot of people were pretty vocally against it. Now it's an assumed GN'R classic. A few haters shows you're doing something different and against their expectations. Hooks and a poppy chorus don't work for every song and the lack of those elements obviously doesn't mean the band can't do those things. Critics forget that from time to time. For a 'cookie cutter' song it sure does a lot of easy things wrong!

heard the song on planet rock radio station today. The guy from snow patrol was in the studio and said it may get better with a few listens.

The DJ (dont know who) seemed to like it, but said he had never heard a song that divided opinion so much than this one.

Tonight's Pump Your Own Octane.  Interesting that NONE of the songs from tonight were repeats from last night, except of course for Chinese Democracy.  CD also wasn't on the real rock 20 for last week, unless it was # 18-20, I missed those.  Maybe it wasn't in rotation long enough, not sure exactly how they go about tabulating that.

At this stage there's no point trying to show the hate. As fans we're eager to hear our favourite band on the airwaves and it's gonna get played anyway. Its been a long time since the GNR rocked the world properly and it'll probably take a few weeks after the album release until the other people realise Axl's back! I believe there's gonna be some major hits come out of this album and although I love Chinese Democracy I don't think it's the big song that's gonna throw them back into the limelight. I think the album release will do that along with a music video and a new tour. I can't wait for it to happen but all we need is just a little patience. We've waited long enough but we haven't much longer to wait :)

Does it take time for new songs to get into regular playlists ?  I'm tripping in MD that the new Metallica and AC/DC songs are played but not CD.  And the Metallica and AC/DC songs sound like every other old song, while CD has a new sound, but all of a sudden nobody wants new sounds ?

WKLQ is Grand Rapids is really picking up on this song.  It was #1 for four days in a row and then it dropped to #2 on Wednesday and #3 on Thursday.  I thought it was going to drop down further yesterday, but it made it back to #1.  Since 5:00 PM yesterday they have now played CD a total of four times and have thrown in Jungle and Brownstone in the last 16 hours.

I thought the same thing! It was great to hear them back at #1 in GR on Friday! West Michigan loves their Gnr.

its crazy to see guns n roses, motley crue, acdc and metallica all on the same list in 2008.  Rock fans are loyal through the years.

Yup keep the votes going. I know I am especially on the bigger stations but even little stations help. The goal is for all the GNR fans to get to hear the song as much as possible and to get old GNR fans that don't go on the forums to say "hey thats cool i remember GNR"

Not to get in to a full on discussion about other bands, but is there any wonder why GnR is #1 right now?  It's not because of the name, it's because Axl took the time to put out a good record in an era when rock has become almost dormant.  Yeah, Metallica still rocks occasionally, but their songs mostly re-treads, whereas Axl is covering new ground for GnR and rock.  Chinese Democracy is really different than anything GnR has done before.  The Day That Never Comes rocks, but only because of Kirk and Lars.  James brings his same cliched, worn out schtick to the vocals. 

I'm glad Metallica is still around and they've paid their dues, but I hope people cut Axl some slack and understand that at least he was trying to make a GOOD album and not just another album to keep the fans loyal.  What Axl did took balls.  So, I give it up to him for that.   This is WHY GnR is #1 over these other bands now...

Has it been getting heavy radio play in your area?  I listen to the radio for at least 1.5 hours a day and I have yet to hear it once in my region (DC area).  Neither the major DC nor Baltimore station has spinned it while I was listening.

Here in Philly I listen to WMMR or WYSP going and coming from work and hear it (CD) and/or a GNR song fairly often.

hate to burst your bubble but CD is number 1 because its been anticipated for 17 years. It is the title track from literally the most anticipated ablum in the history of music. The quality of the song has much less to do with it.

Lets just make sure it stays there!

Bollocks.  The craftsmanship on CD is much more noticeable than anything Metallica has put out in the past 10 years (if not more).

I don't listen to too much music stations these days.  I tape the Howard Stern Show and listen to that, but with CD's release I've listened more to Sirius Octane and obviously they play it a fair amount seeing as how it's the number one song there.  I heard it over the weekend on WCCC in Hartford for the first time, but I hardly ever listen to that station.  I e-mailed the music director over there to find out if they were playing the song, as it hadn't shown up on their music log.  He assured me they've played it a hundred times since it came out.  So yeah, it's getting real good airtime as far as I can tell.

This is beginning to sound like a broken record, but when it's good news I figure it's alright to keep posting.  Voted number 1 again for Sirius Octane's Pump Your Own top 5 on Monday night.

The DJ (Covino) said he talked to another DJ (Mario) from Sirius Hard Attack who told him 6 of the 9 leaked tracks he's heard kick ass.  Covino said he thought all 9 kicked ass.  He also mentioned how Bumblefoot (although he didn't mention him by name) said that the 3 that haven't been heard are even better.  Good way to pump the album I'd say.

It wasn't on the list again, that's 2 days in a row.  It's not the most consistent list in the world.  Last nights number 1 song wasn't in the countdown tonight.  Songs are constantly shuffling in and out, but CD has been #1 whenever it's been on the countdown.  Seems it's all or nothing.

A couple of nights later WBCN plays it and the DJ says... you gotta say it... that's an awesome song!  Then the next night, the competing station, WAAF says... this goes out to Cambridge... and played it.  I think they are listeing.  This is a grassroots effort and can't be ignored.







 



 

Which station in Philly did you hear it.  I just looked up all the songs played on WMMR today, and they payed it once (just a few minutes ago at 8:36 EST), but I would say it definitely isn't played enough in this area.  I heard Don't Cry and November Rain on WYSP today, but no CD. 

I completely agree with Jarmo that it is completely different then anything you hear on the radio today, which is what makes GnR the best!  I would just like to hear it on the radio more in the Philly area.  I guess in two weeks it won't matter because I'll be listening to it whenever I want.  Still can't believe I'm saying that  : ok:

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but CD is on XFM's playlist (both the London and Manchester stations).

I hear it on the radio at least twice a day, and granted I drive in about 30 or less minute intervals. 107.1 The Bone here in NJ/PA. All the DJ's love it, though some are still skeptical on whether or not it'll finally get released!

Since we constantly are bombarding the online polls with our votes, I thought I'd make an appeal for a "poll" that's more permanent. 

If anyone uses rateyourmusic.com, it's a site that allows users to review and rate albums they've heard.  As you might expect, haters abound and CD, two weeks before it's even released, languishes with a measly 2.69/5 average rating.  But, with only 35 ratings, it's a weak average (my "5" just raised it 0.1).  So head over, sign up if you aren't already (they don't even require an email), and rate the damned thing!

I called the Buzz in Houston every day morning, noon and night to no avail. Finally, the DJ gave me a straight answer.

 The DJ yesterday said, "Man I want to play it... I'm with you but the first 40 seconds of that song are crap. I'm with ya' man but the powers that be won't let us have that much dead air before a song. If you really want to hear it we are going to need allot more calls."

PLEASE people, lets get this song played in the 4th largest city in America.

Why don't they do what most stations do and cut out most of the intro?  Pretty simple really.  It's called editing.  While I think the intro is cool, I can understand stations maybe not wanting to play it.  However, it IS possible to cut out 40 seconds rather than refusing to play an entire song.

I know. It sucks. I asked him to do his talking over the intro. He said it was too much work for a song no-one has been requesting. I don't get it.

No one's requesting it, likely, because no one in your market has HEARD it.

Email him the billboard charts showing that it's getting HUGE numbers of spins (based off requests) around the country.

Then tell him all they have to do is edit the first 40 seconds of the song, like the rest of the country has when playing it.  I haven't heard the first 40 seconds since the very FIRST time my local station played it.  It literally takes about 20 seconds to set a post on the song, one time.

I suspect the guy is just being a jerk-off.

Just a quick update on the radio airplay.  "Chinese Democracy" just moved up to #4 on Mainstream Rock with the largest week to week increase in spins.  Still holding strong at #8 on Active Rock with again the largest week to week increase in spins for any song in the top 50 of that chart.  Also, the song is #24 on the Alternative chart with the fifth largest increase in spins on stations with that format.

Chinese Democracy is now #1 on 97.7 Hitz FM's "Top 9 @ 9" in Toronto, took it awhile to get ahead of AC/DC!

I was listening a radio station here in Venezuela last friday and I sent a text to the show requesting Chinese Democracy ( The song ), then when the guy received the text said something like, "Someone is requesting a song From Chinese Democracy we will play a song later", 15mn later the guy said, "this song is from the forthcoming GNR album Chinese Democracy and this the the best song to my opinion, Please listen it and after 3mn you will note this song rocks, it's called I.R.S.", I don?t know if he played the demo but it really rocked  :beer: :peace: :peace: :hihi:

102.1 the Edge is an 'alternative' station here in Toronto, and due to overwhelming votes, they are going to begin playing Gn'R's new stuff. This is huge, considering all they usually play is Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, etc.....

They just played "new" Guns N' Roses on Sirius Octane, but it was Chinese Democracy.  I requested both songs this morning.  Not sure if they've played Better yet.  Kayla (the DJ on now)intro'd CD and made no mention of Better.  Maybe they're not aware?  We might have to e-mail them and make sure they know.  I'm at work right now but I'll get on that when I get home.

I was just on the air requesting "Better"!   woohoo....wish I had a chance to record it.  The DJ said he really digs the song, as did I of course.

I had just requested Better on WAAF... 20 minutes later I went outside to take the trash out... when I came back in it was just ending :(

I have not heard "Better" yet on 96 Rock in Raleigh, NC.  However, they are still playing "Chinese Democracy" some.  They are having a "Chinese Democracy Weekend".  Win the CD before you can buy and also win a Dr. Pepper. 

Yeah I haven't heard "Better" on the radio yet either, still hearing "Chinese Democracy" myself.  It seems as if only SOME stations got the single and were playing it today, not ALL.

How has the DJ/listener response to "Better" been thus far?

It seems like "Chinese Democracy" is peaking just now or has just peaked at radio.  It's still holding strong at #3 on Mainstream Rock and #8 on Active Rock on All Access, but the increase in spins is less than 10 for each format.  I think that since the single just went on sale last week on iTunes, it's possible that it will move up even higher than #5 on Billboard this week.  I think it will likely go to #3 or so, that's my guess.

But, it seems that the timing of the release of "Better" is perfect, right before the album comes out and just as "Chinese Democracy" is peaking.  It's also much poppier than "Chinese Democracy", so it could have a much longer stay on the charts than "Chinese Democracy".

Good call by the label, management and the band.
