Title: Reckless Road Question
Post by: Hudson on October 21, 2008, 11:03:19 AM
I was not sure where to post this.

I have been reading Reckless Road by Mark Canter. Really cool book with awesome pictures. The book is written differently than most books. There are parts in the book where the author is basically quoting what the band members were saying at the GNR shows. For example... Axl saying this song is so and so and you guys are great, etc. Then there excerpts from people like Slash, Duff, Axl, Steven, and a million other people. For example Slash saying how they come up with the idea for a song or whatever.

My question is... are the excerpts from Axl, statements that were taken recently by the author or old statements that just put in the book. I am not sure. I think reading Slash, Izzy, Steven, and Duff's statements it appears that they were taken recently. I am not sure about Axl's statements and I wanted to know how these statements were attained by the author.

Anytime Axl was quoted, they were taken from a Geffen Press Kit during the promotion of Appetite for Destruction.

Yeah, there are notes in the book on where all Axl's comments came from.  None of them were current, as far as I remember.

Cool. Thanks guys. I was wondering if perhaps Marc Canter spoke with him recently when he was working on the book to get some of those comments.

I was curious if Axl was still friendly with Marc these days. I am glad he still is. I always wonder about Axl & Slash's mutual friends and acquaintences and when they speak to Axl and then talk to Slash or vice versa... like what they say about one another. Like does Axl ever ask about Slash or his kids or say that he has heard VR music or Slash ask about Del James or Dizzy. It must be the weirdest situation.  Slash is pretty savy about not saying much in interviews, but he has slipped a couple of times here and there about these type of situations, but with little elaboration on what was said.
