Title: Fringe Season 1 Discussion, Ep 1-20 Post by: Hammy on October 06, 2008, 02:28:10 PM Well this show starts here in the UK this weekend and after seeing advert after advert, I'm quite interested and plan on checking it out.
I realise there have been a few episodes in the states and just wondered what people thought of it so far? (Without divulging spoilers...obviously) The show is from the dude behind Lost, here's the plot outline (copied and pasted from wiki) Fringe follows the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science (telepathy, levitation, invisibility, reanimation, etc). All over the world, a series of apparent experiments collectively referred to as "the Pattern" (ex. a newborn baby who became 80 years old in a few minutes etc) are occurring for reasons unknown. Olivia, Peter, and Walter are in charge of investigating these strange events to determine their source. Connected to the Pattern is a company called Massive Dynamic, which is a leading global research company that holds the patents for a number of new and important technologies. From the reception (also copied and pasted) the feedback I've so far found is fair decent. The pilot episode was watched by 9.13 million viewers, garnering 3.2/9 Nielsen Ratings among adults 18-49, with ratings improving over the course of the episode. The second episode, "The Same Old Story," fared much better ratings-wise, being watched by 13.27 million people and becoming the fifth most watched show of the week. As of October 2008 the show had achieved the first place in the 18-49 demographic among new shows. As a whole, the series was well received by the critics. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: jazjme on October 06, 2008, 05:48:39 PM Its a cool show, a bit more linear than Lost, but very compelling.
Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on October 06, 2008, 08:26:40 PM Ha! I was gonna start a thread on the show myself but figured nobody else was watching it!
I like it. I'm a bit scared though that it will turn out like another sci-fi fav. of mine called Invasion which was cancelled right when it started picking up speed. The cool thing about Fringe is that it's anything but slow. This critic enjoys it! It's a damn interesting program. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: pilferk on October 07, 2008, 08:24:52 AM I'm watching.
So far, so good. Good individual, psuedo-science themed, eps with an interesting (so far) overarching mythology. It's a bit more "concrete" than lost...though I half expect "Massive Dynamics" to display the Hanso logo. :) Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Miss Carousel on October 07, 2008, 01:46:13 PM Where can I DOWNLOAD this shit?
Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: pilferk on October 07, 2008, 01:50:31 PM Where can I DOWNLOAD this shit? http://fox.com/fod/index.htm Full episodes right on Fox's web site. Granted, you have to watch them on your PC or laptop..... They're also all out on the various torrent sites, if you're looking from something you can burn to DVD. I'd heard they might be coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace, too...but haven't looked to see if they're there, yet. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Hammy on November 28, 2008, 09:26:00 PM I've really got into this program now. I think we've had 8 episodes aired so far.
I loved the pilot then found myself struggling to enjoy the next few episodes, like many tv shows in the early stages I hadn't had a chance to get to know and love the characters. Now I think they are fantastic. Walter Bishop is one of the best characters on tv. His relationship with his son I find fascinating and unique. His son often mentions how he wishes his father was, well..."All there..." Yet it seems when his father was they weren't close and his father, heck, even experimented on him, despite him appearing not to enjoy having to babysit his father, he's actually a lot closer to him now than he ever was and it's great to see this bond grow, on top on that I find it quite hilarious to. Some of the one liners from Doctor Bishop, the crazy yet genius aspect works perfectly when combined with his sons drohl sarcastic humour. As well as that great stuff you have the main body, "The Pattern", and besides that a lot of great little stories that are clearly building up to the "Bigger Picture". What a top show! Long may it survive! Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on November 28, 2008, 10:20:17 PM I like the way that the episodes (especially lately) build on the previous week's, but still manage to keep things fresh.
Very cool stuff indeed. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: mrlee on April 28, 2009, 10:04:21 AM Guys, i need some help.
I wanna get into this series, but i need to see it from the start of Season one really. Problem is, its not available to rent until end of september, and all the online streams are stupidly slow, ive only managed to watch 3 quarters of the first episode. Any ideas? Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Hammy on April 28, 2009, 01:56:25 PM I'd say your options are use a torrent site or wait until september.
Is your connection pretty slow? Incidently this show keeps getting better and better the last few episodes have been great! Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: mrlee on April 28, 2009, 01:59:17 PM I fixed my connection. Its fine again now. Its jsut alot of stream sites have alot of traffic so they are very slow, and often sourced from China or Japan.

By stream sites are you talking about watching it online?I'm talking about downloading using something like BitTorrent. All the TV Shows I get off sites like mininova.org are great quality. Very cool stuff indeed. Very cool show, I'm still watching. Yeah, a lot of the things on it are pretty far out...but then again, 40 years ago Star Trek was virtually using the equivalent of cell phones. Olivia kissing that stripper last week was nice. ;) Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Evolution on April 28, 2009, 05:16:14 PM I think the last three episodes have been my favourite three so far.
Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: crow316 on April 28, 2009, 06:32:45 PM I watched the entire season on hulu.com. I hope it gets picked up for another.
Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Hammy on May 05, 2009, 06:18:39 AM I hope it gets picked up for another. Good news! Fox has reportedly handed Fringe an early renewal for a second season. The network has ordered 22 new episodes of the sci-fi show, which stars Anna Torv, John Noble and Joshua Jackson, E! reports. Its first season is scheduled to wrap up on May 12 in the US, while Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy is lined up to guest star in an upcoming episode. "We were saving so many juicy secrets for years and years, and we're actually going to stick a bunch of them in the finale. That may be the worst idea ever, but we're doing it," co-creator Roberto Orci said. Fox plan to announce the rest of their planned renewals or cancellations on May 18 http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a154867/fox-hands-fringe-early-renewal.html Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Evolution on May 14, 2009, 06:32:17 PM I enjoyed the season finale. Left a good few turns for the show to take next time around : ok:

Left a good few turns for the show to take next time around : ok: Cheers for not spoiling it : ok:I was cursing my stupidity for clicking on the thread and seeing the words season finale. Being on Sky1 time I've just seen the spinal fluid one. Checking Wikipedia, I have 2 episodes to go. Good to see the finale got the highest ratings of the season, jumping from 9.2 for episode 19 to 13.5 for the finale. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Evolution on May 14, 2009, 08:07:01 PM Lucky I didn't!
The spinal fluid one had a great soundtrack for the club scenes like. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on May 14, 2009, 10:27:23 PM The finale was fucking amazing! This show has just gotten better and better.
Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Hammy on May 15, 2009, 05:33:59 AM Lucky I didn't! Well I remember Nine Inch Nails, should I have picked up on the other music? The spinal fluid one had a great soundtrack for the club scenes like. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: pilferk on May 15, 2009, 12:50:36 PM Finale was AWESOME, though I figured out the "twist" when Walter did his "soliloquy" at the beach house.
I LOVE who they cast to play "you know who", in that final scene. Reportedly, that person is going to have a MUCH larger role in season 2, and has been signed as a guest starring regular. Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Evolution on May 16, 2009, 06:50:08 AM Regarding the twist, you have to wonder if there was any consequences with what Walter did. The episode felt really finale-like, had a good momentum.
Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: Hammy on June 02, 2009, 08:41:27 AM I've finally seen the finale. Quality stuff they really did a good job of answering a lot and leaving much more open.
I'm I right in thinking then, with Peter Bishop dead at 7, the Peter Bishop we see is from the alternate universe or have I totally lost the plot. I thought it was a shame Agent Harris burned up, I felt there was going to be, well, more to him.... Hopefully your right and Spock has a big role next season, well it has to be bigger than his role this season :hihi: Title: Re: Fringe (TV Series) Post by: pilferk on June 02, 2009, 08:50:24 AM I've finally seen the finale. I had suspected something "odd" early in the season, when they talked about what happened to Peter in the lake. Then, during the finale, I pieced it together with the 2 coins AND Walter's speech about having to go into the alternate universe to "recover something very important" that he'd lost. Supposedly, "Spock" has committed to a semi-regular guest role next season. AND the show will be o Thursday nights, in the States. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Title: Re: Fringe Season 1 Discussion, Ep 1-20 Post by: crow316 on August 15, 2009, 07:47:04 PM In the Fringe parallel universe (where Olivia ends up at the end of the season) The twin towers are still up, JFK and John Lennon are still alive, and Chinese Democracy came out in 2000, with Slash in the band.
I got a promo newspaper for the show at comic-con. It has an article talking about how GNR plan to release a deluxe CD of "CD" for the tenth anniversary, which includes re-masters of all 4 #1 hits. Axl and Slash plan on playing a show at the Whiskey to celebrate. Its interesting to see some peoples idea of an "ideal" universe. Title: Re: Fringe Season 1 Discussion, Ep 1-20 Post by: Jessica on August 16, 2009, 06:18:02 AM I'm addicted to it !!!
I can't wait to see the next season. I still wonder why Olivia and the other kids were trained ? What for ? So now we know that Pete died and the Pete we have is coming from the parrallel world. Maybe they will bring Harris from the other reality ? Another one. Leonard Nimoy is an excellent choice. Title: Re: Fringe Season 1 Discussion, Ep 1-20 Post by: DeN on August 16, 2009, 10:26:48 AM yeah, great show. can't wait for the new season.
