Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: Howard2k on September 24, 2008, 04:30:42 PM I believe that recertification is done by the RIAA on request. ie - GNR or the label pays to have AFD recertified.
This could mean that the recertification is being done in the interests of promotion. Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: willow on September 24, 2008, 04:41:13 PM Not many bands can say that!!

Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: erose on September 24, 2008, 05:31:25 PM So Appetite has sold MORE than 5.000 copies a week for the last 10 years.
It sold 26.000 copies a week from 87 through 98 if my math skills serves me right. Pretty fuckin' amazing if you ask me. Wonder how many copies it sold a week from 87 through 93?... Stack 'em on top of each other and you get a mean looking tower!! Picture it! Edit: well not exactly "mean looking", but a really high tower.... ;) Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: Genesis on September 25, 2008, 03:53:01 AM Congrats to GN'R!

Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: marknroses on September 25, 2008, 09:35:01 AM AFD is timeless.
The attitude of that record can related to on so many levels which is why it remains highly relevant to this day. It's amazing that the RIAA could jump the album from 15 to 18 million copies. It's pretty much the second most successible Hard Rock album in history behind ACDC Back in Black. I think over time, it could become a TOP 10 best seller. I don't forsee any future competition given that this format of music (albums) is almost a relic and a thing of the past, unfortunately. :peace: MNW Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: Rocksteady on September 25, 2008, 09:39:01 AM I wonder what the worldwide number would be?
Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: kupirock on September 25, 2008, 11:30:02 AM I wonder what the worldwide number would be? Blabbermouth's news story tells that "The LP has reportedly accumulated worldwide sales in excess of 28 million." ??? Some GNR tv-document said 35 million. Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: ppbebe on September 25, 2008, 01:12:31 PM congrats :peace:
No only the most sold debut album, t's also the youngest rock album in the list. Anything over 10, I lose count... :hihi: I do find it surprising that the US grabbed up more than 60% of sales, considering the worldwide appeal of Gn'R. Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: Layne Staley's Sunglasses on September 26, 2008, 05:45:24 AM To be frank, Boston was last certified 5 years ago.
So that was 17 mil in 2003. Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: IKnowWhereIAM on September 26, 2008, 09:14:59 AM To be frank, Boston was last certified 5 years ago. Yes, but most Boston fans are certified AARP members now...last release sold like shiesse. I think it would be a safe bet that the 'breakout album' is now around 17,000,420. The 420 being geriatric stoners who's record players/8-tracks finally broke. :smoking:So that was 17 mil in 2003. Just to be fair, I am a fan of Boston. You don't suppose a lot of copies sold after Delp died? Youz crazy! 5 years and 420 copies. I *almost* cracked a smile there. Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: IKnowWhereIAM on September 26, 2008, 09:30:59 PM I *almost* cracked a smile there. That was my intent (there is no sarcastic emoticon)...Boston is a great band...and a great city. Seriously now...I am SHOCKED that they are in the same league as Gn'R, and must assume it is probably only due to the fact that they had a 11 (was it '76? I was in diapers) year head start...before the age of recordable cassettes + high speed dubbing, and then CD's/computers. : ok:Title: Re: Appetite for destruction certified 18x multi platinum by the RIAA Post by: Layne Staley's Sunglasses on September 26, 2008, 09:40:34 PM I *almost* cracked a smile there. Brother - they are kicking ASS...Boston had 11 more years, in the age of the Album. How does Lies stack up against everyone, and sophomore releases? Where is UYI on the list? Brother - they are kicking ASS...Boston had 11 more years, in the age of the Album. How does Lies stack up against everyone, and sophomore releases? Where is UYI on the list? At last count, LIES went platinum 5x and both UYI's were at around 7 and a half million. If they can get any of the UYI's (or even CD) to go 10x platinum, they'll only be the 7th band in history to have two diamond records. It's a quintessential rock album. There hasn't been an album like that since then... raw, unforgiving and just plain bad-ass. Sure there's been plenty of great albums... but only one AFD. I want CD to come and kick everyone in the ass. If it doesn't debut #1 it would be the biggest upset in the history of music. |
