Title: School shooting in Finland
Post by: kaasupoltin on September 23, 2008, 05:23:39 AM
Just got my school day interupted.

Some fucking asshole is shooting in a school again, a little north from my hometown:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7630969.stm

It's on right now so they don't know how many are dead or anything, but police says "several people may be dead". He's been shooting at the police too.. The guy's still alive, hope he doesn't shoot himself..

Is it like a year from the Jokela incident? What the fuck is wrong with people!?

It's been "confirmed" just now; there are dead students/workers and the guy's been caught by the police. Don't know if it's 100% true as the police don't let the media to the area.

Edit. another source says the shooter shot himself and there might be some kind of explosives inside the school.

Think we'll have to wait for the official statement that's supposed to start in like 10 minutes.

This is so sad.

Ok so here's the official info after the statement:

-Several people killed, no accurate number but they're carrying many dead bodies out at the moment
-Several people wounded, many got shot in the head/chest
-The shooter's alive but in critical condition, he tried to shoot himself when the police cornered him
-The school is partly on fire and the police suspects there might be explosives inside

FUCKFUCKFUCK!

The hospital isn't in alert anymore.

Only one student in critical condition and also the shooter is in critical condition.

In otherwords the hopsitals aren't waiting for severly wounded anymore, so there are propably many students to be dead.

This is the killer's youtube profile

Also now it's confirmed by officials that there are several dead

I think the media attention the whole thing gets is way too big. The press loves this sort of shit and will go over this for way too long and give this fucker way too much publicity. And of course the speculation on the web will add fuel to it all. It's a tragedy not a fucking circus!

Finland school gunman kills nine (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7630969.stm)

At least nine people have been killed and two others seriously wounded in a shooting spree at a vocational college in Finland, police and officials say.

Police said the gunman, thought to be a 20-year-old student, then shot himself, although his condition is now unclear.

He was carrying an automatic weapon and wearing a ski mask when he entered the college in Kauhajoki, reports said.

In 2007 eight people died in another school attack. Finland has one of the world's highest gun ownership rates.

In last year's incident, the gunman, Pekka-Eric Auvinen, posted a video on YouTube as a macabre preview of his attack, pledging to "eliminate" those he saw as "unfit".

Ski mask

Tuesday's shootings in Kauhajoki, some 330km (205 miles) north of the capital, Helsinki, began just before 1100 local time (0800 GMT).

An estimated 200 students were thought to be in the college buildings at the time.

A BBC correspondent in Finland said a gunman dressed in black was seen at the school, apparently carrying an automatic weapon.

A man with a ski mask was seen entering the building with a large bag, national broadcaster YLE reported. Shots were fired soon afterwards, and reports emerged that several people were seriously wounded.

At least one injured girl was seen leaving the school covered in blood, our correspondent says, while police said some of the injured were taken away from the scene and treated nearby.

Police ordered an evacuation and called for reinforcements as fires blazed in the building and local reports said Finland's heavy weapons squad was heading to Kauhajoki.

The gunman remained at large within the college grounds for some time before police apparently restrained and disarmed him.

"I just heard from the police radio that the shooter has been caught. He no longer has a gun," a police spokesman told the AFP news agency.

But hospital sources and the mayor of the town were later quoted as saying the attacker had turned his gun on himself. There was no confirmation of his condition.

In the wake of the 2007 attack, Finland's government pledged to raise the minimum age for buying guns after Auvinen's attack. But the country has a long tradition of hunting and weapons-bearing, with about 1.6 million firearms in private hands, the Associated Press reports.

That's exactly what these guys want. Publicity.

Nine dead so far.

The saddest thing is that an officer Taina Holsti interogated the shooter because of his videos but let him go and found no reason to cancel his firearms certificate.

Fuckin pussy was wearing a ski mask? If you have courage to kill someone you should have enough of it to do it without mask. Or did the idiot think he would get away with it? If he lives he's probably gonna blame GTA too! Nothing but a fucking pussy.

u rally can't blame the police officer but it wouldn't have happened if they'd take his gun, hope they will take people's guns more often now

 :-\

I wish the media didn't function  like media does in situations like these. Theres the small percentage of people out there for whom the 7 day international media exposure that always follows these cases  is a commercial more than anything else. "Die like a man; shoot up your school before killing yourself and we make you famous"
Then again thanks to internet..would cult following around shit like this be even larger if media hushed it away little bit?:/

It's a huge shame the asshole who did this  managed to killhimself.  It looked " good" on  that department for a while.

It has always been so puzzling why it is legal to own a handgun and keep it at home.

Yet another senseless tragedy. Again. And again and again. when will it stop? HOw do we make it stop? Don't these idiots realize there is no fame in death. Once you are gone you are forgotten. The only person that has as much staying power is the Lord God, in whatever form you believe, who has been talked about and discussed since the day right after his death.

I want to catch one of these fuckholes alive and put them through the torture of people terrorized by a gun and a crazy person.

Don't these idiots realize there is no fame in death. Once you are gone you are forgotten.
But unfortunatelly this isn't true.:/ There are people who idolize this shit.
mainstream media alone makes it damn sure that people who pull this stuff off are far from forgotten. Pekka Eric Auvinen is now  more famous name in Finland than uhh..any Hindu gods are.
...and this is before the whole cult following crap that existance of internet makes possible sinks in.

Matti Vanhanen (PM of Finland) suggested a full ban or very limited access  of hand arms from civilians.  It's little comforting that someone with actual power finally actually demands this outloud.

After reading what this guys friends had to say about him and about that police hearing on monday, I can't stop wondering why nobody didn't do anything! I mean c'mon! Yes, the law was on this guys side but didn't Jokela teach anything to the police, why did they iterogate him after all; did they ask him "are you going to shoot anyone with the gun", got a "no", and let him go? What was the point of that? Now there is ten innocent people killed because of this little fuck. How blind can you be!

I don't blame the officer for this, in the end it's all because of this guys own intensions. I'm just saying..
