Title: TRUE BLOOD - HBO SERIES Post by: COMAMOTIVE on September 21, 2008, 12:26:39 PM Was hoping for an actual series I could get into that would be scary and intense........but this is quickly turning into a goofy romance show
I'll give it a few more episodes, but I've been pretty dissapointed thus far............good sex scenes though - and that Anna Paquin is cute as hell Anyone else like, or dislike the show? Usually when I hear something is about Vampires.....I'd expect a little intensity and darkness I guess they're just following the book series - It's allright, I guess , but it's starting to look like something on the WB - and for HBO - I don't want something that reminds me of the WB Title: Re: TRUE BLOOD - HBO SERIES Post by: LeftToDecay on August 30, 2009, 06:06:07 PM This is so fucking (pun! lololol) good!!
Even though the "Hello, I'm tormented gawth vampire going through existental crisis!" thing got old around the same time Anne Rice did, it just refuses to stop being cool! (Unless you are creating fiction with target audience of 11 year old girls in mind ofc) So much in this series is unusual. I Don't remember watching many flicks set into those nearly mythical redneck hellholes of USA. The seemingly neverending tolerance/racism/orgaized religion commentary goes real well with black humor, liberal usage of gore and constant fucking. It is a mixture that leads to some REALLY funny/memorable/creepy scenes ;D The series is kinda overly sexed up though..even for something that is all about hawt gawth vampires and their groupies:p There is so much fucking here that it wouldn't do the quanity justice to call it just plot device. Judging from 6 feet under, Adam Ball has always had a golden touch when it comes to writing really, really, really black humor. Imho during 6 feet under, he just kept overdoing it and as a result, things got far too surreal. In True blood, the dark humor is everpresent but so very very subtle all the time.It never takes over a scene. Usually when I hear something is about Vampires.....I'd expect a little intensity and darkness When have Anne Ricesque vampires been more intense and dark than these guys? Hmm well Bill himself lacks some balls, sure. But other than that..more INTENSE?! Explosions?Car chases with pickup trucks that have Uzis nailed on front bumber? Hummm sometimes I wonder if J.J Adams is watching True Blood. He is supposedly making a series/filmatisation of Dark Tower. Bill the vampire is pretty much 1:1 how I always imagined Roland Deschain. (and as we all know, how i imagine things is the only right way to do them) |
