Title: Items where generic just doesn't cut it!!!
Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on July 04, 2008, 01:54:33 PM
I got to thinking about this today with my lunch.  There are some items where generic just doesn't cut it.

Doritos.  no generic nacho-cheese chip comes close.

Hellman's mayo.  this one's probably out of habit on my part.

Heinz ketchup.  No doubt!!!

Duncan Hines brownie mix.  Betty Crocker's sucks as do the generics I've tried.

Cola.  Pepsi or Coke.  I don't buy soda, but if I'm at a party and try them, generic colas just don't taste good.

Maruchan ramen noodles.  If you have to eat ramen noodles (whether you are economizing and/or a college student)
                                           Maruchan is the best.

Tyson chicken patties.  again, not luxury food, but the taste is much better than generic...on this one though, I use
reverse psychology, since I know the stuff is bad for me, I'll buy the bad ones so I have less
of an incentive to eat them!

any more additions to the list???

Rice Krackles are NOT rice Krispies!

Bluto!  That's why I love The Jungle.  We might go at it tooth and nail with politics, but on cereal, you are 100% correct sir!   :hihi:

Apple Jacks are Apple Jacks, not Apple Rings or Apple Zaps.   :hihi:
Froot Loops
Frosted Flakes
Cap'n Crunch
Cocoa Krispies

however, one generic cereal out there isn't too bad.  Frosted Mini-Wheats.  Very difficult to taste the difference.   ;)

Nothing worse than a wimpy trash bag that rips open as you take it from the kitchen can across the carpet to the garage.....

For me it's mainly cereal......I despise generic cereal and used to get super pissed when my gram would try to pass that shit off on me.

As for the dude that said about Doritos.........There's an UTZ party mix around here that has the best fucking nacho cheese chips ever.  They taste absolutely perfect......like an actual nacho with real cheese.  It's a thick chip too.

Condiments also.....Heinz ketchup is the ONLY ketchup.  All the rest are just posers to the throne.

Agreed on the Doritos.  And the soda.  I do stock Hellman's, but I find that some mayo they use at sandwich places like Quiznos/Subway is different but tasty.

Trash bags.

Random story.

If you ever buy the scented trash bags, and then have to puke in them a lot, I hope you're luckier than I am, as I now have an immediate flashback of bad things whenever I smell one of those fuckers.

Cover bands are NEVER the same as the real deal.  The "Appetite For Destruction" band is NOT Gn'R!

p.s. I love that we all love white trash foods!!!!

Random story #2.

George Harrison (yes...THAT George Harrison)...well, his sister Louise lives in Central Illinois, where she occasionally makes appearances with The Britles (Central Illinois's premiere Beatles cover band!) and does commercials for chiropractors.  Hilarious shit, that.

Add cigars to that list, too.

If it's sold on the counter of a gas station, or by some guy whose cousin "smuggled them from Cuba"...it's probably not worth the money.

When I think of generic, I usually think of store brand products.

I hardly think Utz and Little Debbie count as generic.

Although, generic Viagra would be terrible.

Any store brand mac and cheese is AWFUL.

I agree on all others listed here!

Except for ice cream, Ben and Jerry's all the way even though it's expensive as hell.

^ my bad.  when I think generic, I guess I've always included cheap knock-offs as well.

store-brand orange juice tends to be rather bitter.  Minute Maid or Tropicana or the Florida's Own are nice.

This brings up an interesting point we should discuss.

AxlsMainMan brought up chocolate milk.

Would you consider Nesquik a cheap knockoff of Hershey's chocolate milk?

You can't have any losers with those options!

Now, jeans.  I must say, up until a few years ago I was a Levi's man.  550's I think were my jeans...now, I'm open to whatever my wife finds for me.

Should EV2O bottles have two caps on them!?

I think my dad has a crush on her.  He wakes up at 9 AM to catch her program, and comes back at 3 in the afternoon for a whole hour of her show on the Food Network.  Fuck him.

By starting this thread I feel kinda like Andy Rooney...pretty soon I'll have hair growing out of my nose and ears along with eyebrows that'll need trimming!  :(  I don't want to be the old complaining guy!

Thank you sk.  The next thread I'll have to start is how to explain to your wife you're on a message board with "sex kitten!"...without getting glared at!   :hihi:

Canada Dry Ginger Ale, there is no substitute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Generic ginger ales pale in comparison!

guinness
cadbury  chocolate
snickers ice cream bar

^It's what I lived off of in college.  It's a high-fat, high-cal, deadly sodium level food that sustains poor college students...at least it did when I was in school. :)

Sometimes it's called oodles of noodles or Top Ramen.

thanks. wonder how it tastes.
It's very delicious actually.  It comes in many different flavors. It is a thin, brothy soup with asian type noodles.  Takes only about 3 to 4 minutes to make, and yes it is very cheap. I have always been open to adding veggies or something to it, not that it is gonna make it any healthier lol, it has approx 15-17 hundred  miligrams of sodium per package if I remember correctly, carbs are just as bad, in all reality heart attack food :P Good thing college kids r young enough to get away with eating like that.

Cool pops can only be done by Fla-Vor Ice!!!  Order of flavors best to worst (they're all good though) cherry, grape, lemon-lime, and orange...I think blue raspberry was added in but it's still alright!

ICEES vs. Slush-puppoes...now there's a tough one.  Kinda like Coke vs. Pepsi.  Both are fantastic!

But a Slurpee is equivalent to an Icee!  Oh god, I wish there were 7 eleven's in manhattan!  I'm jonesin' for one!
I've totally been buyin out the bananna ones mmm. I'd send ya one if I could!

They don't.

It fucks up their heart and overall health, probably leading to an eventual heartattack, or death.
