Title: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: uk_shaun on June 28, 2008, 10:26:27 AM (sorry if this is old)
I really really like Double Talkin' Jive, and today on YouTube found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=946cP6-pAA8&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=946cP6-pAA8&feature=related) Guns N' Roses - Double Talkin' Jive (Werchter, 1993) at the start of the song: Axl: This is where we dedicate a wonderful song to Izzy Stradlin.. You remember Izzy.. Ok.. Fuck Izzy.. (audience laughs) This is a song Izzy wrote about himself.. and erm.. why your thinking about it, you can think that I think he can (suck?) off -- Jive m'fuckers.. On a light note: Is it a work of fiction, or did Izzy really find a head and an arm in a garbage can? :hihi: Title: Re: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: IzzyDutch on June 28, 2008, 11:09:34 AM It ain't fiction, Slash mentions it in his bio. Outside the alley of their 'box' rehearsel space they found those bodyparts in a garbagecan.
For the rest the song is mostly about Vince Neil. It was called Double Talkin' Jive Motherfucker at first Title: Re: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: jarmo on June 28, 2008, 11:12:26 AM I remember Axl telling the story about how somebody found a head and an arm in a garbage can outside the recording studio (?) before the song was played at the show I saw in Stockholm in 1991.

Title: Re: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: Fingers on June 28, 2008, 11:41:41 AM Izzy IMO was involved in a lot of great songwriting in the UYI albums-this was a great song, and it always funny how Axl dedicated to someone
Title: Re: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: uk_shaun on June 28, 2008, 01:12:47 PM There's some truth in it. Oh. So there were body parts found :nervous:
I know most GN'R songs are based on reality, although some are fiction. I'd always though of Double Talkin' Jive as a work of fiction. Guess I was wrong. Axl was just joking but somepeople dont understand

Title: Re: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: kaasupoltin on July 04, 2008, 05:49:23 AM Well, he dedicated the song to Izzy like in every show after Izzy performed those couple of shows with them in 1993. I think I read somewhere it had something to do with money..
Title: Re: Double Talkin' Jive - about Izzy Post by: Grasshopper on July 05, 2008, 08:29:32 PM Axl dedicated it to many people, the Warren Beattie dedication in 92 was funny.

I think I read somewhere it had something to do with money.. Izzy agreed to came back out on the tour in '93 for a few shows replacing Gilby cause they asked him (since he already knew the songs) and they still owed Izzy some money, plus it was in countries he hadn't been before. After he realized nothing had changed (Duff and Slash were still walking around like zombies) he vanished again after the shows. |
