only something that throws me is that these dates in 2012 are always off by a little. It said on that little film that the Mayans said December 21, but the time i'm recalling it said on the history channel that they said it was December 24th.

eiither way if that happens fuck ya know. we won't even have the 3rd album by then.

The end of the world dates have been predicted before & they've come & gone. 

There was kind of mass hysteria and paranoia over the year 2000 coming up. 

We've survived. 

I think that when the true end of the world does come - if it does - it will be at a date, time, & place that no one could have ever predicted - totally unexpected. 

Although, admittedly, I haven't totally researched this 2012 stuff.  But even if I did - it's all conjecture, isn't it?

This 2012 shit is actually a little scary. I've just recently started researching a little into it, though I still don't know much about it. From what I've read, though, I don't really think that the Mayans predicted that the world would end on that date, that's just the date their calendar ends. People misinterpret that as their prediction for the end of life, but many say that the Mayan calendar then starts over. The Mayans were pretty frickin' smart, though, and supposedly they've already predicted some things right. There's some weird astrological thing that's going to happen on Dec. 21, 2012. Certain planets or galaxies or some shit align just perfectly on that day, so something weird is going to happen. I don't think it'll be the end of life, but hell, who knows . . .

As long I have Chinese Democracy (and the follow up CDs), I'll die a happy man.

This date was predicted thousands of years ago.  Not by a religion, but by the clock and calandar that we now use.  The Mayan Calander.  They were some smart fucks that were more accurate with time than our modern way of keeping time.

No they weren't.  Don't get caught up in the hype.   The Mayan calendar, while remarkable, was not a more accurate system than today's atomic clock based models.

Okay, you are right about the atomic clock. However, didn't the mayan's first learn of the earth rotation not always being 365 days and we just made it simple by creating a "leap year".  Thanks for clarifying the others though.

It just so happens that if you try to sync up our Gregorian calendar with their calendar, this date is the next point at which they sync.

But you reminded me of a recorded lecture I had seen given by Richard Feynman.  He was fascinated by the Mayan calendar and he talks about the priests who thought of Earth's precession as a 'numbers game' but not understanding why it was happening.  I'll have to find the link and post it.  He is always a great lecturer to watch and learn from.
