Title: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Eazy E on June 14, 2008, 10:29:31 PM This might be a stupid question... but is anyone here a Coldplay fan?
I've just started listening to the new album, "Viva La Vida" and I'd be interested to hear some thoughts on it. I didn't have huge expectations going in as I found a chunk of the last album to be "by the numbers" Coldplay, but so far I'm really enjoying this new one. My favourite song so far is "Lost", but I haven't listened enough to let everything sink in. It seems like there is more variety in the instruments and lyrics this go-around. If this makes any sense, the music sounds like the album artwork. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: GeraldFord on June 15, 2008, 02:51:33 AM Not a huge Coldplay fan--but I like them. Will buy the new CD.
Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: mrlee on June 15, 2008, 07:32:27 AM i heard my dad playing some of it.
was depressing as is everything they do. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: faldor on June 15, 2008, 01:17:36 PM I don't get "Coldplay". I don't get how they became so big. Their music seems like music for smart people or something. Or maybe for depressed people. That commercial for the album they've been running reminds me of U2.
Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: D on June 15, 2008, 01:24:01 PM I use to absolutely love Coldplay but here lately Chris Martin's voice just annoys the living piss out of me.
I want to scream at him "GET SOME FUCKIN BALLS and sing hard every once in awhile. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: bazgnr on June 15, 2008, 04:27:16 PM I'm intrigued by all the press on the new album, especially all the articles that emphasize the fact that Martin has essentially abandoned that God-awful falsetto that drenched each and every song, as well as the swooping strings and mid-temp schlock that characterized 95% of their albums up to this point (yes, just my opinion, I know). I sincerely hope that they truly sound different, and that Viva La Vida lives up to the hype.
Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Eduardo on June 15, 2008, 05:06:29 PM I use to absolutely love Coldplay but here lately Chris Martin's voice just annoys the living piss out of me. I want to scream at him "GET SOME FUCKIN BALLS and sing hard every once in awhile. Yes! They're a good band, good songs, but his voice is fucking annoying! Fix You and The Scientist are awesome songs though Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Eazy E on June 15, 2008, 08:18:43 PM Yes! They're a good band, good songs, but his voice is fucking annoying! Fix You and The Scientist are awesome songs though I just read a review that said the slight change in style was really good, identifying the fact that "there are no songs to make a video with Chris Martin walking in slow motion". I got a good laugh after I realized that Yellow, Fix You & The Scientist are all guilty of this. :hihi: Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: AxlsMainMan on June 15, 2008, 08:39:19 PM They have some pretty cool songs, but other then that, I find them to be really depressing.
Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Falcon on June 16, 2008, 05:25:58 PM Coldplay huh?
Probably my least favorite band of this era. The pussification of rock continues. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Doc Emmett Brown on July 09, 2008, 06:56:30 PM By chance I was listening to KROQ today in the car, and this really great song starts playing. I loved the voice, the lyrics, the music, and then I waited to hear whose song it was, but no luck. I googled the lyrics later, and voila, it was the song Violet Hill.
Coldplay huh? Probably my least favorite band of this era. The pussification of rock continues. There needs to be a yin and yang in rock music, no? Coldplay on yin side, and a band like Buckcherry on the yang. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Bodhi on July 09, 2008, 08:58:12 PM Coldplay might be the worst band ever signed to a major label.....no offense to any coldplay fans but they are crap...the best tracks they have are just bad Oasis(a great band) rip offs...

Interesting... Anyways, I think it's just another overrated song with more style than substance. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Rapunzel on July 11, 2008, 01:09:37 PM Coldplay might be the worst band ever signed to a major label.....no offense to any coldplay fans but they are crap...the best tracks they have are just bad Oasis(a great band) rip offs... The songs are better written than any Oasis number! I love the last track - 'Death and All His Friends' - particularly for the progression that starts with "I don't wanna something something from beginning to end, I don't wanna something death and all of his friends" - I could hear that a few more times, but then again it is written as a cadence. Ok, so it doesn't rock, but it is fascinating music all the same. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: D on July 11, 2008, 02:01:41 PM I have found Coldplay to be hit or miss.
For me, the songs are either amazingly Great or corny ridiculously bad. I love the hits on the radio and I bought the album, but some of the lyrics are just.................. really bad and his voice grates on your nerves after a few songs. Coldplay are a band for me, great in moderation but I could never like GNR,Bon Jovi,Prince,RHCP sit down and listen to them an hour or even 30 minutes straight. Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Rapunzel on July 15, 2008, 02:06:27 AM Ya think?
Might have a listen and try and hear what you are hearing...but I can't see Coldplay putting out x=y just to go back to producing something that "sounds like" Oasis. Rip off is such a loaded word! ;) Not knocking the Gallaghers - saw em on Jools recently. Title: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: Dot on November 25, 2008, 10:52:27 PM That?s what I heard the other day and honestly, the guys are like what, 31? Mr. Chris Martin said a musician has nothing to do after age 33!!!! What??? has he gone insane? he?s got the coolest job on earth, earns quite a lot of money and he says that? I guess he should have a talk with older rockers who are still at it.

Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: Dot on November 26, 2008, 09:08:38 AM I don?t mind Coldplay, their last 2 albums work just fine for me. However, there are tons of rockers who are like twice their age and play harder and faster plus their live performances demand a loooot of energy, and their are still doing it. Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Roger Waters are still recording and touring the whole world. So Chris, don?t be lazy.
Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: Falcon on November 26, 2008, 09:21:12 AM So Chris, don?t be lazy. No Chris, be lazy - just go away and stay away. Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: CheapJon on November 26, 2008, 01:42:56 PM Falcon's a reasonable man I see :)

The sole leaders in the pussification of rock. Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: Izzy on November 26, 2008, 04:03:12 PM They say the same thing every single year

Seem like before ever album or after the say this. Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: BlowUpYourVideo on November 26, 2008, 04:12:38 PM History proves that the most critically acclaimed albums by a band are usually made when the members are in their 20s. Perhaps he realises this and wants to quit while he's....... ahead? I guess so...
But that Viva la vida loca whatever it was called song they put out recently was all over the radio. Most annoying. Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: loretian on November 26, 2008, 06:08:04 PM Chris Martin claimed he'd quit after their first album, Parachutes (which is a great album, btw.) He also claimed they were done after Rush of Blood to the Head (which is an even better album). He didn't claim it after X&Y though, and I thought by then he'd fully embraced his commercial self, since X&Y was garbage. Guess not.
I wouldn't take what he says now too seriously. : ok: Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: DeN on November 26, 2008, 06:34:31 PM good news for music

Post by: metallex78 on November 27, 2008, 06:23:08 AM Well, for a band that pretty much releases the same music on every album they've put out so far, I think they've already overstayed their welcome....
FUCK OFF already please. ;D Title: Re: COLDPLAY TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR? Post by: The Catcher on November 27, 2008, 07:32:02 AM Mr. Chris Martin said a musician has nothing to do after age 33!!!! He should tell that to Mr. Bob Dylan. What an absolutely reveiling comment. Maybe it's hard to produce the same ballad over and over after age 33, I guess that's what he was trying to say. This would be a major lawsuit since Coldplay's album is the biggest seller of the Year. I don't hear the similarities... Title: Re: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Post by: Silverchair on December 05, 2008, 12:06:21 PM I find it hilarious that people hate them. What do they not seem manly enough? The falsetto gets to you? Or is it the use of haunting melodies??
It's hilarious that metal guys, hard rock guys and just manly men in general have issues with listening to bands like that. You are missing out on great music because a band doesn't appear manly enough. But the tone can be identified be mistaken to be there. What other bands in the 80s talked about that type of shit??? None practically. It was all strippers and hairspray. So men identified with GNR. I don't even get what Coldplay is trying to do! Nothing wrong with falsetto. Everyone likes Queen. I listen to opera. So that can't be it, can it? There's nothing special about the melodies Martin utilizes. It's all mostly recycled garbage that he heard on an Adult Contempo station. And musically, everything is simplified. For example, Lost has 4 chords on the keyboard/organ, a jumbled solo and a generic drumbeat lifted from a Public Image Ltd outtake.
