Guns~N~Roses Guitarist BUMBLEFOOT to Create ALL-STAR BAND

In support of 2008 ROCK AGAINST DIABETES Charity Concert

HOLLYWOOD, CA (May 1, 2008) - Guns N Roses guitarist Ron Thal (aka Bumblefoot) has committed himself to this years Rock Against Diabetes event by orchestrating an All Star Band composed of top metal/rock artists of the last two decades.

"I want to help bring attention, awareness, and hopefully get some people thinking about what they can do to prevent diabetes, or how they can lend a hand to someone living with it" explains Thal. "I have been reaching out to musicians to form a group that hasn't ever played together before, something very special just for this one night. This is an important event, and it's a privilege to be able to participate.

ABOUT ROCK AGAINST DIABETES
Rock Against Diabetes was created my Vancouver music writer and diabetic amputee Darrin Buchanan in 2007. After diagnosis as a type 2 diabetic in 2006, and a resultant below knee amputation of his right foot in March 2008, Darrin has chosen to dedicate his energies to this project to help ensure others do not walk down the same path that he chose previous to diagnosis. As something that has such an intimate bearing on my life, kudos to him for bringing attention to such a dreadful disease can only help with the eventual cure for something that takes so many lives.

I appreciate him for doing that,

but If some people wont change their lifestyle habbits, such as smoking, eating unhealthy food, and no excercise then they are just asking to get diabetes....
, For the people that do eat healthy and dont smoke, and get this debilitating disease really are unfortunate and my heart goes out to them as they cant prevent this in anyway..
Education on this subject is vital in preventing a wider spread of this illness and in order for this to work, general basic nutrition values need to be taken into account in everyones lifestyle , as they say, prevention is better then cure:

So does BBF have enough clout to get some real big names?  Probably not most people's cup of tea or his but Bret Michaels who has been living with diabetes most of his life would be a good choice to participate.  I'm sure they can have more than one singer.

I lost both of my grandparents on my dads side to diabetes, and out of their four childeren together my father was the unlucky, he has been a diabetic for about 16 years nows.
Although he takes very good care of himself and eats healthy and excersizes at some point it is going to take his eyesight.  He has had many laser surgeries, which help a tad, at this point in his life age 66 he is no longer able to drive at night.  I will say he does not let it stop him, he still works full time and is able to take on quite a few challenges in regards to this everyday.  God Bless my daddy and bless Bumblefoot and all others responsible for this benefit, hopefully alot of people will take this knowledge and use it to their advantage.

My sympathies. Retinopathy, poor circulation, and other dibilitating effects of this killer disease can be beat with Money. It is just a matter of research.

Former GF rock band wins contest

Former Grand Forks-area band Starving For Gravity has won an online competition to open an August ?Rock Against Diabetes 2008? show in Las Vegas.

The band features Caleb Fritzel, formerly of Hazen, N.D., on drums; and three former Alvarado, Minn., musicians ? Brad Kovar on lead guitar, Brett Lindenberg on bass and vocals and Lucas Holter on lead vocals.

The band?s effort to compete in the contest was inspired in part by Holter?s younger brother, Brandon, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes about 14 years ago.

Starving For Gravity was chosen in a concert poll by fans and additionally was approved by a separate panel of judges. The band was one of 45 that had entered the competition; Starving For Gravity was among 10 finalists.

Starving For Gravity will play a Las Vegas pre-concert bash Aug. 22, followed by opening the main ?Rock Against Diabetes? show Aug. 23 featuring Guns and Roses? Bumblefoot and his All-Star Band, Magnetico and Karneval. All proceeds from the event will go to diabetes research.
