Yes, but just as interestingly, in my view, was the fact that his current band and its future (or lack of it) was not addressed directly at all, nor was there any mention of his proposed solo album.  I only managed to discern a veiled reference when the interviewer asked his opinion on internal feuds in bands like The Police and he replied that he wasn't really aware of it and anyway "[he'd] got enough issues of his own".  The fact that he didn't appear to make any effort to promote VR makes me highly suspicious of his remark earlier in the week about this not being VR's last tour.

Did he basically call Amy Winehouse an amateur?

Well by his standards of "recreational chemical" use*, she probably is.   ;D

what Slash was saying quite clearly, was that he doesn't see her drug taking as that big of a deal.  I suspect he was baffled at why the question was even asked.

Why do I have to give you a break?  I was hardly insulting you :)  Chill out.  And professional drug users can be classified as someone like a student who takes a pill or two for a few dollars for medical research.  But rock stars? No.  Never.  It's never been a profession.  It's been a result of being a professional in an industry that is surrounded by those things ... but never a profession.

basically you have people that make the jump to heroin.. then everyone else.. i think it pretty common for people to smoke weed or bump a little coke every once in while at some point in there life.. but heroin just isn't normal.. i don't know anyone personally.. but i've never heard of anyone that got into that and it didn't royally mess them up. 

My late uncle was a heroin addict from the age of 14. Towards the end he started getting bad stuff. He would punch himself in the face until he was bloody. He would scream himself hoarse. He would go outside and run in circles and turn somersaults. Anyway, I hope Slash and Co. can keep themselves clean. Drug addiction's no good for anyone.

When it starts out, you go to these great places at night. And you become part of your own secret group. But after awhile it stops being like that. Because you're like, 'I gave this up for my real life and for my soul.' And it becomes something you need just to stay well. If you don't have it, you're sick, and you long for the life you had before. You stop going out... stop wearing flashy clothes... and you stop caring. [Starts eating roasted vegetables from a silver tray with his Vamped fingers, which become very shiny with oil] I don't eat very much, you know. I eat, like, salad.

Do you remember how it felt when you first tried heroin?

I fell in love with it right away. It scared me for a long time. But, um... [Pauses] It ruined the relationship with my wife. I turned my brother on to it and cursed him. I turned him into one of the undead.

How long was it a good experience?

It was fun for about two years. With brief periods of pain and misery. But I bought into the myth. After about three months I didn't even care about having sex. I have two. When I got arrested for possession for the fourth time, I felt beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would lose my wife and kids. I was either gonna get clean or hang myself. The other was the day my brother died, earlier this year. It was an overdose, but it was horrible not knowing whether it was suicide or not ? we just assumed it was due to the state he?d been in. The coroner?s report finally came back, and it was cardiomyopathy, the same thing that killed Jim Morrison. He was four and a half years younger than me. We were always really close as kids. We?d get kicked out of the house and hole up together. But then we hit this stretch where I?d get clean and he?d be using, then he?d get clean and I?d be using, and that sort of made the distance grow between us. Finally, three and a half years ago, I got clean, and we pretty much stopped talking. I said I?d never be judgmental toward anybody, but I started to be toward him ?cause it pissed me off so much. He was losing his family right in front of his eyes. The police found a message he?d scribbled across his fridge, telling himself to stay alive for his daughters.
