Title: VR breakin up!
Post by: w.axl.rose on March 21, 2008, 03:07:25 AM
i think this deserve a new thread

Quote
I was right at the front of the glasgow show where Scott Weiland broke the news right before Fall to pieces!

He said and i quote "You're at something really special tonight. This is the last ever Velvet Revolver tour"

Once he said that Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave all looked at each other. They sang fall to pieces then.. Scott goes over to the side of the stage and argues with the sound guy. After a couple of songs he threw his mic down and walked off. After a long wait Duff came out with the band and sang the start of its so easy. Scott shows up about half way through.. sang really half assed then gone again...

Really doesnt look good. Especially as the band at the start of the evening were late on by half an hour and stood waiting for Scott for about 10 mins on stage. Clearly all very uncomfortably.. Looks like its true guys. Straight from Scotts mouth.

Yep it's true...

Thank god they're finally getting rid of that piece of trash, I've pretty much had it with his "badass" routine ::)

Just hope slash, duff and matt will stick together and make some great music in the years to come....

Trash might be a bit harsh, waste of oxygen might be a better word ;), to be honest ever since libertad was released I pretty much became indifferent towards VR and that's mainly due to Scott...

Sounds more as if Scott has taken it upon himself to make a 'decision' for the band.
I like VR, but Scott's been fucking them and the fans up recently. Don't really care if he decides to leave. Hope the others stick together.

Figures. These guys have really bad luck with lead singers. Anyway, I hope they get a proper frontman and get on with it. Who knows? Look what happened with Queen and Paul Rodgers. You never know.

Top me, It sounds as if his judgement was impaired(for whatever reason). To blindside your bandmates like that is just fucked.

That guy has too many demons to stay in any band permanently.

I really wanted to like VR when they got together but I found their music to be pretty dull, what I disliked the most was the lyrics and vocals. I dont see why him leaving should be the end of the band because surely they can find a much more inspired singer/song writer who could help the other guys in the band make the most of their talents.

So are they playing the rest of the tour or not?  My friends are due to be seeing them in London next week, they'll be disappointed.

They'll be finishing up the tour to april first.

And I wouldn't be concerned right now.

It's the last vr tour before Scott goes back with stp for a couple of shows. maybe he meant that.
but still I wasn't there and couldn't see him saying in there.

it's to bad if it does happen goes all the guys have such great feelings towards each other and helping one and other out.
They all were ready for album 3 so I believe that's still going to happen. I't's not the end.

when your lead singer says this is the end and the last velvet revolver tour ever....I wouldnt say its something to "not be worried about"

amazing how some fans will spin this...it doesnt look good...even if they dont officially say its the end, if the STP reunion gets bigger and they go to make an album VR will be on the backburner for years..

its for the best...they need to get a new singer and continue..

As soon as the STP reunion was confirmed I was pretty sure it was the end for VR. I really don't see them getting a new singer and starting over again but I guess we'll see.

even if they dont break up, I dont see them continuing in the future with the STP thing....what if it gets bigger and they stay out on tour? and then go to do a new cd??

VR will be put on the back burner and I doubt slash/duff will sit around waiting for weiland to come back..

Hey all you great Fans,
So lastnight was interesting. Had a little band termoil on stage as you probably all could tell. Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes you just don?t get along. I guess there has been more termoil lately I guess with the cancellations and all. It has been frustrating I am not going to lie. My career and life in Rock n Roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunatly some people in this business Don?t relize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some, being away from home and family Does grind on you sometimes. With all the travelling And different beds. Personally I Love this Shit and sometimes can?t believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living. Everybody could see who was unhappy lastnight but all I can say is Let?s keep the Rock alive people!!!! In this life u just pick up and keep moving. And don?t ever let anybody stand in your way. The TRUTH Rock On!!!!!! Matt Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

I love VR and want at least one more record out of them (as i loved Libertad), and want them to do another UK tour, as i wasn't able to see them this time round

The band is a well oiled machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They need a good singer that digs them, that wants to be with them.  This is when they get the unknown guy and rock the fuck out.  The band is established now.  Fuck, if I could sing I would do it for free.

Is it time to give Kid Rock the call?  He is humble and has zero drug issues.  Or former singer from Silvertide?    Or maybe even Rob Zombie, if he doesn't do the cat yells every 5 seconds.

REVIEW: All Guns blazing

Publication date 21/03/08

THEY were formed from the ashes of the last great rock band - but the last rites may soon be read for US supergroup Velvet Revolver.

The Grammy-award winning band's singer Scott Weiland stunned fans at last night's gig by dropping a huge hint their time may be up.

He told the sell-out crowd: "You're watching something special... the last tour by Velvet Revolver."

Whether Weiland was serious is anyone's guess but on the evidence of last night, VR have plenty more live bullets in their armoury.

To be honest with you, I would be kinda glad that VR breaks up. Scott Weiland just doesn't fit with Slash, Duff and Matt.
Scott was a much better fit for STP. The boys have to find a singer who is more compatible with their style. I think Cornell
or Kid Rock would be good. The best choice that would fit with Slash, Duff, Matt and Izzy would be a certain RED-HEADED singer
who can sing like a banshee and  is INCREDIBLY TALENTED!!!Lets face facts Axl and Slash need each other. It's a chemistry that  can be comparble
to Mick and Keith, Tyler and Perry,  and Page and Plant.

Ha, Jarmo, it was a joke.

Scott doesn't like not being center of attention.  He remembers STP being something they were not.  He wanted to be a rock singer and couldn't hang.  How he is just the singer from STP.

SCOTT WEILAND: This Is VELVET REVOLVER's 'Last Tour' - Mar. 21, 2008

According to several fan accounts and online media reports, VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland stunned fans at last night's (Thursday, March 20) VR concert in Glasgow, Scotland, UK by dropping a huge hint the band's time may be up.

He told the sell-out crowd: "You're watching something special... the last tour by VELVET REVOLVER."

A fan who attended last night's show wrote on the band's forum, "Once [Scott announced from the stage that this was VR's last tour], Slash [guitar], Duff [McKagan, bass], Matt [Sorum, drums] and Dave [Kushner, guitar] all looked at each other. They sang 'Fall to Pieces', then Scott goes over to the side of the stage and argues with the sound guy. After a couple of songs, he threw his mic down and walked off. After a long wait, Duff came out with the band and sang the start of 'It's So Easy'. Scott shows up about half way through, sang really half-assed then gone again..."

In an online posting from earlier today, VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum stated about the Glasgow concert, "So last night was interesting. Had a little band turmoil on stage, as you probably all could tell.

"Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes you just don't get along. I guess there has been more turmoil lately, I guess, with the cancellations and all. It has been frustrating, I am not going to lie.

"My career and life in rock 'n' roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some. "Everybody could see who was unhappy last night, but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people!!!! In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."

Weiland, who recently spent time in rehab at an undisclosed location, has struggled with substance abuse problems for more than a decade, although was reportedly clean for nearly four years until a few months ago. Questions about his condition flared in January when he missed a VELVET REVOLVER performance at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, claiming transportation problems.

Weiland will reunite with his STONE TEMPLE PILOTS bandmates for the first time this spring/summer for a number of shows, including an appearance at the Rock on the Range festival, to be held May 17-18 at Columbus, Ohio's Columbus Crew Stadium.

Yeah, maybe he is just ditching them for STP, like people have been thinking he would do ever since it was announced STP would get back together.

In the end, if he doesn't want to work with them, it's the best thing for Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave.

For sure.

It's the best thing for Weiland as well, his legacy will always be tied more closely to STP than it ever would've been to VR anyway.

He's a respected guy among his peers, I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about his playing from anyone in the industry.

I've met and spoke with him on a few occassions in his Cult days and was the farthest thing from an "assclown".  Very thoughtful and well read, a great story teller and always asked me more questions about me than I of him.

Yeah that's bullshit, Think he's just blindly repeating what he reads on other boards.
He's referring to this interview I believe:

"?This is pretty much the last time we?ll tour the Libertad record,? added McKagan, referencing last year?s second VR release. ?It?s always good to end a tour cycle on the upswing and that?s guaranteed with the theatre shows in the UK. The people who are paying to see us this time around are pretty much the hardcore fans. It?s a great way to end a tour and head into a new writing cycle for the third album."

no i never said that...it is a problem that they can't fix...Slash said that was the reason it took to 2003 to even start working together again was because of the obvious "gnr connection"....they were in the biggest band in the world at one time....there is no way of avoiding the GNR thing....especially without "Chinese Democracy" out...there are alot of people who dont even think that record will happen so they hold on to hope of the old line-up getting back together....once CD comes out I think it will help certain fans move on

If true, I am surprised how fast this fell apart, but the writing was on the wall once Scott made plans to reunite with STP.

I never thought this band would live and die before certain events transpired, but this will no doubt heat up reconciliation rumors.

everything started going downhill for them on July 28th, 2007 when the 20th anniversary show of appetite for destruction was held.Scott was not happy with his VR mates participating(hence why the cat in the hat did not play). I'd imagine that could have helped him decide to do the STP thing as well.

Thank god they're finally getting rid of that piece of trash, I've pretty much had it with his "badass" routine ::)

Sounds more like he's getting rid of them.

Duff said this in an interview dated March 20th...

"Scott is great," says Duff. "It was destiny that the five of us should come together - at least it felt that way when Scott walked into the room and sang his first line with us. It was like, There it is'.

"There is an unspoken thing with him and us. It is almost as if he's led a parallel life to the rest of us."

Earlier this year there were reports that Scott had voluntarily gone into rehab, causing a Velvet Revolver tour of Australia to be cancelled.

"It is a brutal thing, addiction, and I should know," says Duff. "You just hope - you can't say anything for sure. I think he'll be fine."

everything started going downhill for them on July 28th, 2007 when the 20th anniversary show of appetite for destruction was held.Scott was not happy with his VR mates participating(hence why the cat in the hat did not play). I'd imagine that could have helped him decide to do the STP thing as well.

no everything started going downhill when Slash started showing up to Axl's house drunk in the middle of the night and ripping his bandmates

I have always liked Scott but that was just wrong to go about things like that. As much as i like VR if it is over so be it. The thing that gets me is when the band first got Scott, they really backed him. More than a band you just dont do that to friends. Especially Duff, it seemed he went out of his way to help Scott kick the drugs, and to go onstage and announce something like that is just not cool. I say bring on Loaded. The samething is going to happen in STP. The Deleo brothers will get sick of the antics and shit and Scott will probably once again screw them over aswell. It is a shame because the guy is talented.

The best way to promote a third album is to take a big break - do other projects, then announce a VR 'reunion' and grab as much publicity and media hype and do some festivals then  ta daaaa   a new album and tour!

Its probably a publicity stunt.

This is unfortunate, but I was expecting it based on recent events.

I wish they would have at least come down to Australia one more time.. but I guess we have been shafted.. for good now lol

Obviously Scott is going to go back into STP and that will become a long term project for him now, which isn't so bad I suppose.

Wonder where Slash/Duff/Matt are going from here..

Did Axl not quit on stage before and then come back?

Scott will do the STP thing and realize why the band fell apart in the first place and then come running back to VR

He probably is just very frustrated with how the album flopped and the fact he fell off the wagon.

If I had to be in a band with Matt Sorum, Id probably go crazy also.

If that fails, maybe Slash can take care of his old school friend by calling his other friend Clive Davis. I'm sure Clive knows some singers, who shouldn't be writing their own songs (http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=51014.0), that need a guitar player.  ;)

Scott Weiland Announces End Of Velvet Revolver

From a recent interview with Duff in the UK press...

Scott just got his old band Stone Temple Pilots back together. Do you think there?s room for both bands to coexist?

?We knew that was always going to be an eventual thing. I don?t know how far that?s going to go, and I don?t really care. It?s just music. Slash, Matt and I have obviously been through it a couple of times and came out with our heads above the water and kicked ass. I think, at this point, we realise that we?re an entity in ourselves; we could do anything we want. We could go and make a fuckin? ZZ Top blues record; we don?t need to have somebody else to identify who we are. Especially Slash, in the last couple of years he?s become a world wide thing on his own, I think he?s finally being recognised. I?ve seen this guy play guitar like every fuckin? day, all day long. He?s already a gifted musician and then he works his ass off on top of that, and he should rightfully be recognised as - of my generation - definitely the top guitar player.?

Scott responded to Matt...

VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"Responding to our drummer's [Matt Sorum] rant about why the band is in a state of flux:

"Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don't attempt to stand in a man's shoes when you haven't walked his path. Secondly, 'keeping rock 'n' roll alive?' I've made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though ? this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I've been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I've ingested into my system. I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run and that was the 'make-up' Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve... Volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won't say why? we'll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves.

"As for our fans ? I will sweat, bruise, and bleed for you. And will continue to do so until the end of this tour. However, you deserve to hear VELVET REVOLVER playing? not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound. God forbid ? could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It's a shame? we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of anyone. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows.

"On a separate note, we did an STP [STONE TEMPLE PILOTS] photo shoot before this tour and it was fun, inspiring and it gave me that thrill ? that feeling that got my rocks off from the get-go."

According to several fan accounts and online media reports, Scott Weiland stunned fans at last night's (Thursday, March 20) VR concert in Glasgow, Scotland, UK by dropping a huge hint the band's time may be up.

He told the sell-out crowd: "You're watching something special... the last tour by VELVET REVOLVER."

In an online posting from earlier today, Matt Sorum stated about the Glasgow concert, "So last night was interesting.

Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. With all the travelling and different beds. Personally, I love this shit and sometimes can?t believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living.

Weiland will reunite with his STONE TEMPLE PILOTS bandmates for the first time this spring/summer for a number of shows, including an appearance at the Rock on the Range festival, to be held May 17-18 at Columbus, Ohio's Columbus Crew Stadium.

what was that all about Matt singing in one of the songs (?) and the rest ???

Matt sings in some of the songs ... backing vocals.  Now, I'm sorry ... I LOVE VR and Scott is a VERY talented performer ... but he's hardly the most solid when it comes to being in key all the time ... I've always been a fan of certain singers but they don't always have the best live vocal ... it's about the energy etc.

Well ... anyways, Matt sings backing ... very well I'd like to add.  Matt has a great voice and does a great job.  However, I think this comes back to Scott not wanting anyone doing any vocals on the albums except him ... and he doesn't like hearing someone else singing on stage with him.

Sorry, but Matt does a fine job, as does Duff, of singing backing, and Scott has no reason to bitch.  I put this down to HIS ego.  But hey ... don't get me wrong, I still think Scott rocks ... I just think he's got a bad attitude about this whole situation.

Some people, who were at the Glasgow show, have "said" that the gain on Sorum's vocals were so high that it was hard to hear Wieland's vocals. Hence, the argument with the sound tech.

Did Slash, Matt, and Duff kind of sell out when Scott didn't want to work on the songs that Izzy helped Co-write because it sounded too Classic? I bet a million bucks that CD was bad ass and Weiland was scared he couldn't do it justice.

IF I AM VR, I GET A BAD ASS ROCK SINGER, LET IZZY WRITE THE LYRICS, AND RELEASE THAT ALBUM AT THE END OF THIS YEAR TO FULFILL THE RECORD COMPANIES 3 ALBUM RULE AND TOUR BEGINING OF 09 FOR THAT ALBUM.

I don't think anybody's 'happy' to see Weiland go. I would rather see VR stick together, but I can't say I'm really surprised that it has come to this. Also, Weiland is the one who has to leave. You don't think that if Matt left, Duff and Slash would continue to work with Weiland, do you? I think not.

I didn't think Weiland was right from the get go, he's not a rock n roll singer, even his 'look' was different from the other guys.  I was surprised by his appearance at the Liverpool show the other night, he looked a lot better, his teeth have been fixed, he's grown a beard and he was dressed well. He was also laughing and joking with the other guys, so for the first time I thought Scott looked like he really belonged in this band  :(  How wrong was I  ;D

again ill repost what i put on the vr forum.....i must say im not impressed with them.....i WAS their biggest fan and even know some of the guys but to be honest 1 perticular member just is a twat-should have realised it sooner.....
few people here have to realize that a few members of the band are being stupid pricks no matter how u look at it.....they really dont care about no matter what they say.
their egos have fucked everyone over here.......theyv lost a lot of fans and have made stupid statments on stage and off for no reason and left fans in limbo.
instead of being professionals-which they make out they are-they are behaving like this.
one member said about how gracious he is to be doing what he does or whatever......yeah right ok.....
contradiction NOT  addiction is something that springs to mind.
iv lost all patience with this band......its one thing after another......
i wasnt gonna speak out but fuck it thats the truth someone had to say it.
whatever happens the egos are laughing all the way to the bank and whats worse the real truth of the matter is ,yes scott is going back to STP but really the other guys most likely wish they could go back to a former band.
thats my thoughts and feelings.....brutal yes but true.
if they wanted to sort things out they could have instead of making snide remarks about each other on websites and such.....its childish and they only have ach other to blame so if people wanna slam them for it ,in my opinion its warrented.....you cant tell half a story to the press knowing the fans (the people that pay their wages!!) are gonna read it, and  get worried by it.
its obvious more is going on behind the scenes but saying half the story to us and not telling the rest just isnt right....and all this to hit back at another member of the band.......when really when your in the same hotel you could just talk it out there without all this.

was good while it lasted but what a way to screw things up and throw them away.
VELVET REVOLVER RIP.....

SLASH: 'This Is Not VELVET REVOLVER's Last Tour' - Mar. 25, 2008
VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash has dismissed reports that the band will split up following its current European trek.

During the band's March 20 concert in Glasgow, singer Scott Weiland apparently told fans they were "watching something special ... the last tour by VELVET REVOLVER."

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, Slash said, "Well, let's put it this way ? this is not VELVET REVOLVER's last tour."

During the same interview, Slash said it is unlikely VELVET REVOLVER will support LED ZEPPELIN on a world tour but has stopped short of ruling it out completely.

Rumors linking the two bands emerged last week after VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan said that the band "have" the slot.

But Slash has told Newsbeat the band is concentrating on its next album.

He said: "There's been a huge rumor going around about us opening for them and I think that was something that was taken out of context.

"I think as far as ZEPPELIN doing a tour, that remains to be seen.

"I saw Robert last night [Saturday, March 22] and he's got his solo thing going on and as far as VELVET REVOLVER is concerned, we've got another record to do and we're not even thinking about that."

sorum doesnt even like doing the meet and greets......he said that last month after the vr show and do you know why.....because he gets bored because people just go to see slash.....thats not an ego for you is it?

Sounds like somebody needs to focus on his solo career.... :hihi:

Weren't the meet and greets originally sold as "meet Slash" or something until they changed them?

Ha, to be honest, that is the only person I would want to meet.  I went to a meet and greet where Slash was the only one.   It was after an 04 show.  He is the main event.  He is the Icon.

Yes, the very first meet n' greets were to meet Slash only.  Which is bullshit, when there's a whole band.  It was changed.

BTW, that's a funny comment by Sorum!

Found it: http://www.velvetrevolverforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=28638.msg674069#msg674069

I did the meet and greet yesterday which was cool, Matt is as funny as fuck, when asked by someone where Scott was he replied, "Its not his thing, he never shows up, maybe he's at the hotel fasting!!".

That's fucking classic and exactly why I've always enjoyed Sorum.

That said, it's probably exactly why he rubs some the wrong way..

Agreed.  I think he can be fucking funny.  On the other hand, sometimes he does act like a jerk.

Matt suddenly raised up a bit on my popularity list just because of his comment, and the fact that Scott really behaved like the biggest d-bag of them both with that very very public way of dissing his own band member, I mean its kind of cool to, reminding me a bit about old GnR when the singer adressed certain members of the band for "wrong-doing" in a similar public way, but very unmature regarding they are in the 40s now, and not young mad teenagers anymore, so its more sad than cool.... :-\
