Title: For those of you who are married, what was your wedding song?
Post by: dolphin on March 09, 2008, 02:57:24 PM
I am engaged to a wonderful man and we are having some discussions about what song to choose for our wedding song we first dance to as husband and wife.

I like a song from Michael Bolton and he was like

What was yours?

Not married anymore but......

The sound of the surf :)

I was married on a beach at around 7 am.  Other then the teeny little no-seeum bugs, it was very cool.

You are the second person who told me they got married at sunrise instead of sunset.  Cool idea.

I'm not familiar with the first one, but 2 and 3 are great, timeless ballads.

The Michael Bolton song I like is called "Once in a Lifetime"

Here are the lyrics:

Some people fill their lives, with empty nights,
And days that slip away
Some search till the end of time, but never find,
The open arms of fate
One moment comes along, someone who?s a dream to you,
All at once your dreams come true

Chorus:
Once in a lifetime, you find the one you really love
For now and forever, one love that never ends
Once in a lifetime, when every star that lights the sky
Will shine with one reason, leading your heart to the one love you find
Just once in a lifetime

Some people live their lives in compromise,
And hide their dreams away
Some never take the chance, within their hands,
To claim the prize they make
When faith is all you need, to hold the hand of destiny,
Find the love that?s meant to be

Chorus:

If you believe in the power of love
And you believe that dreams come true
Magic will fill your heart, when that moment comes along
Just once in a lifetime
Once in a lifetime, when every star that lights the sky
Will shine with one reason, leading you home to the one love you find
Just once in a lifetime, just once in a lifetime

If it's who I'm thinking it is, I think anything Syd Barrett era would be the best choice. ;)

We used Billy Joel's "She's Got a Way."

You have years to systematically destroy his manhood.  Why not give him one last Michael Bolton free day?   : ok:

Lol.  He's already informed me no Michael Bolton.

Well our song is "God only knows" by the Beach Boys so we may make that our first dance.

Dammit Freedom, if I knew ya then, I'd be singin' out She's Got a Gay to the lyrics in honor of the groom...yeah, how 4th grade of me.   :hihi:
No, seriously, she doesn't remember the song.  It was Valentine's Day 1998.  Apparently it was some valentine song, but we can't for the life of us remember what it was.  I do remember liking the "Truly, Madly, Deeply" song as a love song at the time, but that wasn't the song.  I danced with my mom to Kenny Rogers' Through the Years, and my wife danced with her dad to butterfly kisses.  As you can tell, we didn't have a lot of planning time for our, shall I say...interesting wedding???  'twas an amazing day/night.

Dolphin, we met up in Joisey before the GNR show.  Your fiancee is a lucky man!!!  Congrats again!  Damn, job change AND a wedding to prepare for...way ta keep the stress level low!

Yes, I remember.  You showed off your son's picture and said he was the youngest Guns n' Roses fan.

We walked around the parking lot at least 3-4 times until we finally realized that was the HTGTH meetup party spot :hihi:  And I wore the wrong clothes.  It was too cold for me as I hail from sunny and warm Florida.

Wonder if Bandita ever made it out of the parking lot.  Didn't the cold make her car battery die?

I'm pretty damn sure my bro-in-law turned off the blasting GNR to move his behemoth pick-up truck over to jump Bandita's car.

I was designated driver and had a limited amount of time to drink plenty o' vodka, so I apologize for my actions!   :hihi:
btw, I sure as hell didn't notice the cold with the vodka swimming through my veins.

Yeah, at least 30 people got to see a pic of my son.

Our wedding song was old school - Rain or Shine by a singer that is now dead. It's goes I'm gonna love like nobody loves you, come rain or come shine, happy together, unhappy together, won't it be fine, days may be cloudy or sunny, we're in or we're out of the money, I'm gonna love you come rain or shine. Damn, it pees me off that I can't remember her name.

But, at the end, I had them play "Nighttrain" of course. I wanted - You Can't Always Get What you Want by the Stones cause I think it sums up most relationships to the tee. You get what you need in the long run.

That's an awesome song to have for your wedding!!

I, unfortunately, went with Chicago's You're the Inspiration (it was the 80's).  Thought he was....turned out, he wasn't.  I cringe when I hear that song now!   :hihi:   What a dumb choice!

Yeah you are right! But, what I really meant was - if you try (meaning give other people a chance that you normally wouldn't), you might just get what you need - which is what happened with me and my hub. I went out with a bunch of egotistical, pretty boy, measure me by the stuff I have for a long time - my hubby was an occassional friend that I saw maybe once a year but would never thing of dating - then one time he just asked me out and I said yes what the hell I'm not dating anyone - I thought it would be fun and that's it - but when I actually spent more time with him and got to really know him - he was not the pretty boys I used to date - I realized that he balances me out perfectly - so I really got what I needed. Sure, would have loved to marry a hot guy with a killer bod and job - but my hubby's kindness made me realize what was important in life.

That song to me is about giving chances to people or things in life that you normally wouldn't and it usually turns out to be what you really needed. Well, it wasn't played so no misinterpretation. But what do you think people thought when they heard NIGHTTRAIN as the last song? Alcoholic couple. Send my husband to the liquor store with my credit card - it's happened but not for Nighttrain.

Oh another song we played, not sure our friends were too happy - but we did a video montage - us first - family second - friends last - the song I picked for friends was "I Got Loaded" by Los Lobos only because when we had to go through all the pictures, we realized that most of the pics were of our friends partying or wasted - they are not all alcoholics and my good friends know it was a joke but others might have been what the hell do they think we are? We have classic drunk pics of friends.

I wanted our song to be - Road to Nowhere - by Talking Heads but people told me it was too negative for a wedding. I'm realistic though.

Our wedding party was introduced to "Thunderstruck" ACDC
We were introduced to "Welcome to the Jungle"
We had our first dance to "Amazed" by Lone Star

Our Last Dance was "Stand by Me"
Our "Goodbye" Song was "Paradise City"
