Title: GNR members' current activities..
Post by: ben9785 on March 06, 2008, 06:02:45 PM
Things seem to be a bit slow in terms of news from Axl & GNR camp, so I thought I might make a post, hopefully with contributors from others who might know more, as to what other musical projects the other (current) GNR members have going on at present (if any).

BUMBLEFOOT
Recording new solo album. No tour dates planned.
http://www.bumblefoot.com

TOMMY STINSON
??
http://www.tommystinson.com/
http://www.myspace.com/tommystinsonofficial

DIZZY REED
Touring with Jizzy Pearl from March 2008.
http://www.myspace.com/dizzynjizzytour2008
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=50099.0

ROBIN FINCK
??
http://www.robinfinck.com

RICHARD FORTUS
No current activities, but he often does one off shows or short tours.
http://4tus.com/

CHRIS PITTMAN
No current activities, but I was interested in reading about his previous collaborations. Check it out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Pittman

FRANK FERRER
No current activities, but his main NON-GNR priority is his band called UNTOUCHABLES
EDIT: Jarmo mentioned he is doing odd shows with PISSER also, but I couldn't find a website with dates..
http://www.myspace.com/ghettometo

If anyone has any other news or knows of forthcoming releases or tours which feature any of the guys, post them here?..

Frank is playing around New York City with Pisser.

I think the next gig is at the end of the month.

Some of the GNR members need new websites. Badly. Message me if your interested. Lot's of experience.  :peace:

But thanks for the update on the ongoings with our friends.

Title: Re: GNR members' current activities..
Post by: ben9785 on March 06, 2008, 06:23:16 PM
I don't think its just a case of them needing new websites.. They need to be updated more constantly with current activities.

GNR members like Robin and Tommy, who have held the longest terms with Axl in GNR, tend to keep a low profile when GNR activities are minimal. Robin's website is more of a personal blog rather than a news source. Tommy's website is obviously promoting the album which is still most significant for Tommy, being his own solo album.

how about everyone is doing there own thing while Axl is in neogations with Geffen/Universal to release Chinese Democracy.

Yeah fair enough, but I thought people might be interested in specific band members or what they're up to, if they're touring, or releasing any new music etc.

I'm interested. I'm sure quite a few others are too. This is all interesting, thanks man.

I might as well post a discography of what each band member has contributed to. Where possible/known, this list only includes significant contributions, not like a lead guitar on one song or things like that, and no mention of compilations either, except for live albums. The name of the band the member was part of is included in "[ ]" after the album title

Where I was unable to confirm the name of the specific album the member featured on or the extent of their contribution, then I didn't include it.

I had this list prepared for a GNR website I was working on but aborted since there are already two or three major, extensive GNR fan websites out there and it would have been pointless to try.

BUMBLEFOOT
"The Adventures of Bumblefoot" (1995) [Released as RON THAL]
"Hermit" (1997) [Released as RON THAL]
"Hands" (1998)
"Uncool" (2000) [Released in France] / (2002) [Released in U.S.A]

"Ghosts of Mars" (2001) <Film Soundtrack> {Guitarist on 4 songs}

RICHARD FORTUS
http://www.4tus.com/
Go to his website and click "RELEASES".
Richard is a popular session player so you can imagine the number of albums he has contributed to in some way.

DIZZY REED
"Use Your Illusion I" (1991) [GNR]
"Use Your Illusion II" (1991) [GNR]
"The Spaghetti Incident?" (1993) [GNR]

"Creative Playthings" (2004) [ELECTRIC COMPANY]
"SexTapesTM" {Album Title Unconfirmed} (2007) [SEXTAPESTM]

*(Pittman also played on the TOOL album "Aenema". I suggest if you are really interested in his musical background, look him up in WIKIPEDIA because there is some interesting information there but incomplete)

FRANK FERRER
"The Beautiful" (1990) [THE BEAUTIFUL]
"Storybook" (1992) [THE BEAUTIFUL]
"Love Spit Love" (1994) [LOVE SPIT LOVE]

It's funny because the "mainstream" doesn't really know about them but when the album hits it's gonna be like they all won American Idol or some shit.  Patient bunch of motherfuckers...I'll give them that!!  :hihi:

I couldn't find the old Marketing/Release ideas thread, so I'll just put it here since it also goes with the thread topic.

For the release of Chinese, the band should release a beefed up limited edition set for something like 200 or 300 Dollars like NIN did. I'm sure GNR fans would help them sell out much like NIN fans did.
As I proposed before each member could do a little personal bio spot but make it their own. Ron's could be goofy. Fortus could have little Fortus in there. Robin could have his strange cirque de solei business. Tommy could do the punk thing. Pitman could have bunches of margaritas. So on so forth.

"The End of the Innocence" (1989) [DON HENLEY] - Contribution unknown

Background vocals on I Will Not Go Quietly

Other Guest Appearances by Axl:

The Outpatience: Anxious Disease  (Vocals On "Anxious Disease")

Black & White: Rainbow Bar And Girls (Vocals On "Rainbow Bar And Girls")

I believe Black & White's EP was released in 1989 and The Outpatience's in 1998 or 1996...

Tommy also has the Perfect album Once Twice Three Times a Maybe. He recently was the musical producer for the movie Catch and Release. Lastly, I am sure he helped out coordinating all the material for the Replacements reissues which are coming out in April and October. They had a ton of b-sides and stuff that they are adding to the original albums. I kinda wish they would throw a small Replacements tour together while we wait for the redhead.... : ok:

ps oh yeah, the good news is, according to Tommy's up to date website, Gnr is playing in South Africa on 4-27 and 5-1! :hihi: ;)

Didn't Robin play guitar on NIN Fragile albums?  I think Chris P. was also in a project called Zaum or something like that

Tommy's also been playing with Soul Asylum, he was on tour with them this summer. here (http://tommystinsonforum.com/index.php?topic=157.0), the tour's been long over though.

I would hope Robin's involved in the artwork for the album. He's quite good when it comes to things like that by the look of his website.

Crikey these negotiations seem to be taking a long time. Are we nearly there yet?

Robin also contributed keyboards and synth to Marilyn Manson's first two albums.

He's uncredited, but Marilyn confirmed his involvement.

Robin also worked for Cirque de Soleil or something like that and the LedZep stuff with his wife (dunno if it's the same project).

Richard also recorded and toured with Nena (german singer from that "99 luftballoons").

This thread looked like a good one to ask, What is GN'R doing right now? What are the members doing? Is it over? Are they planning anything? I haven't heard anything............
Why the dead period right now?

well, there are lots of info about what some current members from GN'R are doing right now, so it fits the thread title. but as for the band GN'R its almost like when they havent been touring: the fans dont get any updates.

They should at least improve the site a little, I go there at least once a week, and nothing...

There's no discography, history, members etc... all the stuff that is common in band's websites. The only thing they have is merchandise! At least the nice pic of Axl and Bach are in the frontpage! :)

"Richard Fortus will be joining X Japan for their three shows at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan later this month:

March 28th - Night of Destruction
March 29th - Night of Madness
March 30th - Night of Creation

As you might remember, Richard and Robin played X Japan's "Endless Rain" as part of their guitar duet during some of GN'R's Japanese shows in July 2007."

"According to a posting on the GUNS N' ROSES fan site Here Today... Gone To Hell!, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus will joining reactivated Japanese rockers X JAPAN for their three shows at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan later this month:

March 28 - Night of Destruction
March 29 - Night of Madness
March 30 - Night of Creation

Richard and fellow GN'R guitarist Robin Finck played X JAPAN's "Endless Rain" as part of their guitar duet during some of GN'R's Japanese shows in July 2007.

Also scheduled to appear with X JAPAN at the Tokyo shows is former LIMP BIZKIT and current BLACK LIGHT BURNS member Wes Borland.

X JAPAN's new song, "I.V.", topped iTunes' daily charts upon its release on January 23 in both Overall Sales and Rock categories.

X JAPAN is the first Asian artist to chart high worldwide on iTunes and the Billboard music site Billboard.biz."

WRONG!!!  Axl was mentioned on Big Brother the other night!!!

On Showtime2 from midnight to 3 am (nyc time), they show the live feed from the Big Brother house.  One of the house guests is this lady named Shelia who is somehow connected to show biz/celebrities.  When the show came on-air the night before last, some of them were in the hot tub talking and Axl's name was one that was dropped.  But nothing more than his name was said because the conversation was about how much they can or can't say about the celebrities they claim to know.

Her name is Sheila Kennedy. She is a former Penthouse Pet and Pet of The Year...

* Penthouse Pet Of The Month December 1982
* Penthouse Pet Of The Year 1983

I have the Live Feeds for Big Brother this year and have heard SEVERAL conversations about Axl. In one of those conversations, she claims to have Axl's bones in her closet. And with her knowing she is on Live Real Player feeds, I doubt she was lying...
