Title: New Radicals
Post by: AxlsMainMan on March 05, 2008, 12:28:59 PM
We're fast approaching the 10 year anniversary of Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too:

Anyone remember this band?

Their two hit singles before the band broke up the year following the release of Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too were You Get What You Give:

And Someday We'll Know:

The entire album was a masterpiece, and without a doubt one of the best albums come out of the '90's.

It's truly unfortunate how we only got one album out of this band :'(

If you haven't listened to this album in awhile, go dig it out, and let those memories of the '90's come roaring back

Well 'You Get What You Give' is a fantastic song, but is the only one I've heard by them...I considered them one-hit wonders but I will check out that other song you posted and if I like it I'll checkout some more....are all the band members still around? ever been any hint of a reunion?

Malcolm, some other awesome songs from the album are Mother We Just Can't Get Enough, Gotta Stay High, Flowers and Crying Like a Church on Monday.

The band had a "revolving door policy" where the only constant member was frontman and lead singer, Gregg Alexander who essentially wrote the entire album himself, produced it, and played various instruments for the band.

Former All in the Family child actress Danielle Brisebois served as a backup singer and percussionist for the band, and was also considered a relatively constant member.

Keyboardist Jim McGorman and bassist Sasha Krystov were part of the house band for Rock Star: INXS

Josh Freese can be heard playing drums on a few songs from their album too :)

As for any hint of a reunion, on Wikipedia a few years ago, someone edited their page saying a reunion and new album was in the works, but that was taken down a few days later

A reunion unfortunately seems unlikely because when they broke up, Gregg issued a press release saying he"accomplished all of his goals with this record" and that "the fatigue of traveling & getting three hours sleep in a different hotel every night to do boring 'hanging and schmoozing' with radio and retail people, is definitely not for him", that he "lost interest in fronting a 'One Hit Wonder' to the point that he was wearing a hat while performing so that people wouldn't see his lack of enthusiasm" and that he would go on to form a production company to focus on producing and writing songs freelance for other artists :(

Regardless, several online communities still exist where members continue to salivate over the prospect of a new album someday ;)

Since the New Radicals broke up, Gregg co-wrote the Grammy Award-winning Santana and Michelle Branch song, The Game of Love a few years ago that you might remember :)
