Post by: SpiritDave on March 04, 2008, 09:30:58 PM
I have Colma and Electric Tears and both albums are awesome chill out peices ...

Any BH fans here able to tell me if there's any others that are the same kind of thing?

I don't like his ott stuff ... just the chill out stuff...

Thanks! :)

I like all his stuff, but in particular the two albums you mentioned.

The only album in a similar vein is an album called "ACOUSTIC SHARDS" which is a bunch of solo acoustic demos Buckethead did in the late '80s.

One of the tracks on that album is actually an early version of the song "For Mum" from "COLMA".

Those two albums are great.

One album he's done, which has several amazing chill out songs on it is Population Override.  I think a lot of people miss that album, because it's totally unique and unlike any other albums he's done.  It has straight up bluesy guitar playing that's done fast and aggressive, but not "shred" style.  The second song on the album, the name of which escapes me now, is probably the most chill out song he's done, imo.

I would agree with the comment about Population Override.

Thing is though he's done tons of chill out tracks that are on other album's. If you can buy individual tracks (maybe off iTunes) then I would definitely recommend the following that are all very similar to Colma and Electric Tears:

Twice With The Sledge - Pieces (Amazing, bluesy, enchanting piece - my favourite ever Buckethead song)
I Love My Parents - Giant Robot Album by Buckethead (very similar to stuff from Colma)
Mrs Beasley - Giant Robot NTT (bit more electric but very good)
Sail On Soothsayer - Decoding The Tomb of The Bansheebot (Buckethead album)
Coma - Buckethead And Friends album

There's tons out there but hope you enjoy these... let me know!

Closest "album" would probably be Elephant Man's Alarm Clock, but again there's tons of songs on a few of the albums that are similar to that.

Check out:

Nottingham Lace - Buckethead and Friends album
Soothsayer - Crime Slunk Scene album
Binge and Grab - Giant Robot album (not the NTT one)
Welcome to Buckethead Land - Giant Robot album

Also a lot of the solos on the Deli Creeps CD are similar in style to Jordan. But I would just buy the Elephant Man's alarm clock CD and see how you get on with that. If you need anymore help just give me a shout!

By new album do you mean Science Faction? Or the USA release of the new Praxis album? Not sure when Science Faction is out, the new Praxis album (featuring Mike Patton, Serj Tankian etc) is out now but you have to get it on Japanese import.

I would also say that if you go to the following link there's a free MP3 download at the top of the page of I Like It Raw which features a lot of playing (whammy, killswitch, shred etc) similar to Jordan:

Inbred Mountain is my favorite Buckethead "chill" album.  Plastination Station is a great tune.
