Title: Anybody study martial arts? Post by: ben9785 on February 13, 2008, 12:35:49 AM Hi
I wonder if anybody around here studies any style of martial arts? Previously I studied Wing Chun and very briefly dabbled with other styles like Hapkido, but at present, in consideration of my lifestyle and my physical abilities, my current interest is in old Chinese Internal Martial art forms Taiji - Good for health/relaxation, and can actually be implemented as a self defence system contrary to common belief that it is an "old person's" martial art, but this depends on which style you study and whom you study under. Some Taiji can implement Chinese wrestling techniques from a method known as Shuai Jiao. Baguazhang - This is a style which is based on a circle walking practice that strengths your stability and your general legs. Your approach to combat is based on circling around the opponent hence you can attack spontaneously, and the actual striking techniques are very circular. Xingyquan/Hsing I - This is a relatively unknown style, much more practical application and self defence compatibility. Based on very simple, direct striking methods that is supposed to be applicated in a continuous forward motion that is like you are fighting through the component rather than fighting off a stance/position. I know that most people tend to shrug off internal martial art styles in comparison to 'external' hard styles such as Kickboxing, JuJitsu etc, but obviously it depends on what you want out of the art, your goals, your physical abilities etc. Title: Re: Anybody study martial arts? Goju Ryu is sadly one style that has become subject to a scam - Not necessarily people getting ripped off, but, rather, teachers with basic Taekwondo knowledge 'selling it' as Goju Ryu. Baguazhang, which I mentioned earlier, shares techniques with Goju Ryu. Actually I believe Goju Ryu was influenced by Bagua. Title: Re: Anybody study martial arts?
