Title: I ... LOVE ... LOVE Velvet Revolver ... but ...
Post by: SpiritDave on January 21, 2008, 11:56:47 PM
Now, you all know what my view on VR is.  I really love them.  They played the best gig I've ever been to, and I've seen GnR twice too (newGnR), and loved them... but VR was a better band on stage.  However ....

...

I am so fucking pissed off that Scott is doing EXACTLY what Axl used to do in the old GnR days.  It's lead singer syndrome.  He's distanced from the other members.  He's never at Meet and Greets... he doesn't turn up to interviews... he doesn't travel with the band.... he turns up late ...

I LOVE this band ... both albums are on my playlist very frequently ... and this thread is not about the music... so I'd like to say that right away.  Regardless of your views on the music ... we can all agree surely, that Scott is not really acting like a member of a band.

Sorry but it does annoy me.  And  I know people who hate VR would love to input here, but as I said ... I love the music, and Slash and Duff etc are my hero's as far as music goes.  But this goes beyond that.

Axl Rose is my all time favorite singer/lyricist.  But man, he was a fucking idiot in the past for these reasons.  Scott's acting just like the old Axl.  And it's just not how a fucking band should be!  You can tell the other guys are all friends ... they hang out, when you see them in interviews they have fun, joke around... etc.

But Scott.  He's never around.

Gah.

Anyways :)

Lead Singer Syndrome? :)
I guess it's just that Scott has his own demons to deal with.

I always though it was funny that Weiland never turned up for the meet and greets as as if he is some mega super star.  But Slash (and some would even argue Duff too) are bigger stars than Weiland and yet they are there doing the M&G's??

Maybe he struggles to talk to people unless he has that stupid megaphone in his hand  :hihi:

I'm a fan of Scott and came to VR because of him, so I am trying to hold out and not talk bad until we know for sure, but he does seem to be wierd lately.   I respect him as a singer but I try not to get into his personal life, because it is probably too difficult to understand.   He is a recovering heroin addict, and his brother also died this past year.   I think the VR guys are more social and can hang out and party.   I can understand Scott wanting to keep to himself.   I wish he would show up to M&G too, but if I was in his position I probably wouldn't want to either.    We'll have to wait and see what the band thinks about everything.   There does seem to be a lot lately with theDUI, the STP thing, and this show.   It doesn't seem like the smooth sailing of the earlier days in VR.   I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm also not trying to get too worked up over it if I get let down.

Trist805 ... I agree ... personal lives are hard to know about, and I don't actually want to pry ... but his erratic behaviour is remeniscent of a few people in the past ... and it's not the sort of thing I want if I'm a paying fan.

Scott just needs to respect the people who made him rich and famous ;)  Us... the music buying public.

As far as logical fallacies go, that is called a "non sequitur". It does not follow.

I hope everything works out for him.

Mate it's not supposed to be logical - coz it's a joke!

The grinning/lauging smilie face at the end of my post should have been enough to indicate that.  I put that on there especially for those individuals that might have encountered some exceptional difficulty detecting the sarcasm and humour in my words preceeding it.

Really?
Different bands different front men. Yet, GNR in the past and VR have some common factors. Ie the guitarist, the bass, the drummer.
What a bizarre tendency.

Lead singers are notorious for this.  See Ronnie James Dio as well.  Great guy, great music.

What have the musicians got to do with this thread?

The similarity I am ... and clearly was discussing, is the Lead Singer's inability to act like he's part of the band.

Don't try and open the thread up to include the other members... since they're not the subject.

The circumstances of the singers must have something to do with it.

See Ronnie James Dio as well.  Great guy, great music.
which I don't know. :-[

But scott wasn't like that earlier was he? Nor axl in the beginning and now.

Scott is a idiot. He's a good singer and was a better lyricist in STP but he's still a idiot.

I would be better off if they just did "Skid Roses" with Bach.. what's wrong with sounding like Skid Row?

The difference is Money with Axl.  Fame, huge figure, grew separate.  For Scott, very hungry on first album, a lot of bonding when guys got him straight.  Now seems like he may have dipped back into trouble and what brought them together isn't there anymore.

You want to force people to spend time together for your own enjoyment? So it seems like the gang they say they are?

Maybe if he spent more time with his band, there would be no Velvet Revolver?

maybe it was "too metal" or something, i'm glad they got weiland so that axl could get baz :hihi: (and so that buckcherry could reform)

I don't want to force anyone to do anything ... but a band is not just a business.  It should be friends together.  I mean ... I'm in a band, and I'm good friends with the members.

Maybe you're right Jarmo ... maybe if they were together all the time, they'd fucking hate each other by now ... who knows.  I just wish that Scott would be more integrated.  He's a great songwriter and I love VR, as I've said ... but I see it as a worrying sign when the singer doesn't travel with, or spend any real time outside of the work, with the rest of the band.

It happened to GnR, and I LOVE GnR, but it was one of the massive reasons the band fell apart. That's not just something in Slash's book ... that's been said countless times by others.  I hope that it works out ... who knows.  I want another VR album.

Funny.  I kinda like Scott more now that he's developed this supposed lead singer syndrome. JK!

Seriously though, it makes you wonder.  Maybe Slash, Duff, and Matt are the problem.  Axl distanced himself from those guys, now it appears Scott is starting to do the same.  I'm just saying........

wasn't the reason for travelling in seperate planes due to scott did some kind of solo performance?

Was it confirmed? and judging from the thread, there are more 'symptoms' of the 'syndrome' than that.

Brotherhood and love among bandmembers seems to be the exception rather than the norm.  Lennon-McCartney, Jagger-Richards, Townshend-Daltrey... those guys were never exactly best friends.  Maybe that tension facilitates the creative process?

That's the "romantic" idea of a band.

But people have their own lives.....  Sometimes you might be in a band with your childhood friend but at some point you start having your own lives.

It's still a band and you're still friends. You just don't live in a shithole together anymore...  :hihi:

I don't think they ever were as close as they wanted us to believe.

U get the feeling it Slash, Duff, and Matt all the time.  And Dave is always welcome, but seems quiet, then there is Scott....  Can you imagine drinking beers and shooting pool or playing darts with that guy?
