Seriously, I'm not worried...but then again I'm not in business.  I heard the Dow Futures were down 800 points earlier today.

World markets TANKED today.

I blame the liberal media myself. If they just reported happier things, we'd all be just fine.

I have some money in stocks, not a lot by any means though.  My ROTH is getting hammered.  but i look at a recession as a sale.  things are likely to go up after 6-12 months and a lot of stocks are getting hammered just b/c the market in general is.  I'm hoping I can catch the bottom on some of the financial like Citi.  I think GS is a REALLY good company to invest in.  great time to invest in certain EFTs as well.

We won't be touching these funds for years down the road, in other words this can be an excellent buying opportunity. Tonight I am increasing my monthly % deductions from my checking account to the max I feel comfortable with. It's tough to stomach, but you have to look beyond the hits you may be taking now.

Who wants to take some bets on tomorrow?

500-1000 point drop on the DOW? Maybe as bad as 9-11?

oh totally - my ROTH is 20-30 years away from even being looked at. I like the target date funds - not as much bang for buck, but I like to set it and forget it - I'll prob pick up a lot of shares towards my 2008 contribution tomorrow.

I think Agriculture stocks are the best picks right now.  its the future.  20-30 years from now we HAVE to be using bio fuels, natural gas and other alt fuels.

I say 1,000 point drop.  i'm not even going to log into my etrade account ;)

When I get my 800 bucks I'm buying into this new business I found about online. Totally legit and backed with Nigerian Bonds, the return is almost 1000 percent! My next post will be from my beach house in Miami, thanks Bush!

btw, is a krach Slovakian for crash?

Butters says what I'm thinking...except he's waaaay behind when it comes to paperclips.  Bert from Sesame Street's going to be a fucking king when this world hits the skids!  His legions of military-trained pigeons will enforce his brutal rule with iron claws.  How did Ernie not see this coming???  The control issues, the seething anger, the paperclip collection, the pigeon fascination, the maniacal laughter????  :nervous:

Markets rise and fall.  Steady as she goes.  It's gonna be a little bumpy.

No, you're right.

They are blocked for 5 years altogether, i had deblocked last year to add some money to them and reblocked them. So they will be available in 2012 unless i desperately need the money before then.

Don't get me wrong, I had a moment of panic yesterday, even after all my talk. It can be nerver racking.

Edit: Too bad you're not Amerikan, Bush's check to you for 800 dollars will make all the worry go away.

Yes, it can be.

Especially since i was planning to buy an appartment once i have a permanent contract ( job wise).
So if my money isn't worth what it was ( although it can't fall below 90% of its original value because i am paying to be insured and it's a contractual garantee), i'll have to wait to buy.

It is all very scary and today didn't seem much better. I once had $17000 in a savings plan in 98 or 99 and went to take it out to pay for some of my wedding (a wedding my hubby wanted, not me - this is true). And guess what I got back? $4000 - I wasn't paying attention to the market then - stupid yes I know - and got royally hammered. I wanted to cry.

I have money in different funds now and I dare almost not look because I am afraid of what I will see. But, I'm going to keep my money in there for the long haul because taking it out now would just be a total loss and waste. It sucks that we have to invest our retirement money in funds that could go bad depending on the market - I know I could choose something safe but safe doesn't make money and I am behind on saving - I could retire at 67 and the market would crash the next day and I'd be a bag lady. All of my savings are in the damn market. Well, various funds with a couple safe bets but mostly things that are going to go up and down. Now I know why some people drink every day.

That's a huge loss. If you don't mind me asking, which fund was it in?

That does suck - but its risk vs. reward.  Play it safe you get small gains - the higher the risk the bigger the pay off OR the more you lose.

To be quite honest I don't remember. But it was one of those sold by Fidelity or put your investment institution in here and you had to pick how to distribute your cash - I believe back then, I might have put a lot of money in US based dot.com or technology but I definitely picked all US companies (stupid I know), something happened in the market and it all went. It might have even been when all the technology or .com companies were going belly up towards the end of the nineties.

Funny thing though, I want to invest money more internationally but I saw China getting hammered cause we are getting hammered and now I'm not so sure. I guess internationally countries still look at the US as a major source of the financial climate which I thought wasn't the case so much anymore because the dollar is worth shit and companies abroad are doing much better than companies here.
