Post by: Grouse on January 19, 2008, 04:53:39 AM
Velvet Revolver Make Our Video Contest!

Velvet Revolver is looking for the next great music video director. They want you to download their new track "Get Out the Door" and give it the kind of video treatment that only you can do.

What's in it for you? We like that mercenary attitude! How about a Grand Prize trip for two to Amsterdam to see Velvet Revolver live? How about a Runner Up JVC prize package consisting of an Everio Hybrid Camera, hot new car stereo & an MP3/iPod compatible boom box?

Visit Fuse.tv and check out all the contest details. You can start uploading your video on February 3rd so mark your calendars!

Check out some of the latest VR merch here!

I thought the Bloopers thing was pretty funny!  There's no way I'm making a fucking video, though!  If somebody has the equipment and the balls, all the more power to them!

The record label says "Hmm...how can we get another VR video without actually paying for it?  I know, we'll get the dumb fans to make it.  That way everyone will understand why it's so cheap and shitty." :hihi:

Do you get the feeling like they stopped funding the promotion of Libertad?

A video costs money.

Having an opening act on tour costs money....

Well sure... but I don?t know if this contest has anything to do with that. Many bands, like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, have done this in the past, for their 3rd or 4th single, after the album has been fully promoted. This might be the case... and I don?t even know if they will put out another single... so this might be just a contest paid by the campaign ad...

Oh, come on....it sounds like more of a promotional "fun" thing.   And the opening act thing - this is a few small club shows without one - so what?  I sure didn't mind.

Does everything always have to have a negative slant to it?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be negative or slag on VR.  I guess I'm just not big on fan made videos, especially in a time where they don't get much television airplay anyway.  A fan made video or a live performance video seems to be a guaranteed ticket to not getting airplay these days.

this video contest is absolute rubbish....first, its only open to US citizens....not anyone else...secondly, the rules document is so constricting, that at the end of the day you cannot do pretty much anything with anything....they leave you abolutely no room at all to maneouvre....and my best bit is this:

Quote
the winner has to arrange his/her own transport to and from the airport

i am assuming this refers to both airports....the departing one, as well as Amsterdam....so if you have never been to Amsterdam....you now have to spend your own money (after having gone to an expense of making a music video)...to get yourself to wherever they booked you for the night....

the least they could do is pay for your taxi ride....jesus...

this prize is anything but motivating....

Apparently in Des Moines they did not have an opening act.

I think its more a way to interact with the fans, and give aspiering young video directors a chance to promote their talent..
