Here Today... Gone To Hell!

Occasionally my computer screen will become really grainy with static lines, and then a few minutes later, it's fine.

This is driving me absolutely insane.

Is this probably just a loose wire, or could something be broken in the screen?

The screen is less than a year old, so I'm hoping it's just a loose wire.

Any ideas/suggestions?

try another monitor and also another cable to see where the problem is... also unplug everything and make sure its plugged in tightly.

Could be a few things. It could be the monitor itself. It could be the cable. It might also be the display driver or maybe too high refresh rate. It could also be interference from something else nearby. Check all those things and you should be able to narrow it down.

or you could stop masturbating.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with my desktop. Turned out I needed a new video card? Or atleast thats what I did and it worked fine? : ok:

I've tried pretty everything, so I guess all that's left to try is a new video card.

My computer is almost 12 years old, so I guess it's maybe time for a new one.. ;)

What's the price range on a new video card these days?

$60-$100?

Will any type of video card do, or is there one particular kind that's superior to the rest?

Well nvidia is the best most people will tell you. Since your computer is so old don't replace it with anything great. I would instead save up and get a new one.

dude, if your computer is 12 years old (!!!!)  you should replace the whole thing.  it will save you many headaches!
