I attended one.  Was it worth it?  Depends on how you look at it.  It was pretty rushed, once they were there.  We were told we could take as much time as we wanted/needed, but most of us just, nervously, rushed through.  And the tour manager had one hand on our arms to make sure we kept moving in a timely fashion (past each guy, who were sitting at a table).  You can get signed, pretty much, whatever you want/whatever you bring.  I thought it was worth it because I got to meet them, get something special autographed, and had a picture taken with them.  Some people think it is not worth it because you could meet them, for free, if you choose to hang around buses & bars and take the chance that you just might run into someone (which I've never had luck with & feel uncomfortable with, anyway).  The money you are paying is not that much in comparison with what other bands charge, through the corporate "fan club".  For me, it was worth it.

You can get signed, pretty much, whatever you want/whatever you bring.

so we are allowed to bring in what ever we want signed now?

My only issue would be what do you do with the stuff after it's signed?

I mean is the meet and greet done a few hours before the concert?  If so - once you get the stuff signed it would suck having to hang on to it all night while you watch the concert, particularly if you have GA tickets and wanted to get up close.

Or are the meet and greets done on a different day at a different time so this is not an issue.

You can pretty much bring in whatever you want to have signed, I mean, within reason.  I have a Contraband LP, which I brought and they signed.   Guitars might be an issue, but people have done it.  Venues might be different in what they allow, but we were allowed to take our stuff to our cars and come back.  However, it was a venue with reserved seating.

The meet n' greet takes place a couple hours prior to the show.

So would it be possible to chat with the boys for an extended time?

Post by: lynn1961 on January 10, 2008, 12:26:59 AM
Don't know what you mean by "extended time".  I will tell you that security is everywhere, once they walk in.  I'm sure you could talk to them for a minute or two, but the tour manager will keep you moving along.....You could try - see what happens!  It's not like some personal, informal visit with the guys - it's not quite like that.

When your there does VR actually seem interested in meetin the fans or is it simply another money opertunity for them? Basically could I hold a conversation with duff for a few minutes??

Yes, they did seem interested and were all quite friendly.  I'm sure you could probably get your few minutes.  Just remember, though, it is a meet n' greet - it's not like your going to sit down over a couple of non-alcoholic beers and have some deep and insightful conversation with the guy.   ;)

Was there loads of other fans at the meet and great?

Depends - some have, maybe, 10 people; other venues could have 25.  I wouldn't say more than that though.

So, are you going to do this? or no?  If you do, I hope you post about your experience, and hope it's a good one!

There was at least 50 people at the New Years Eve Show in NYC.  Probably more like 75.  You can tale STP stuff if you want but Weiland will not be there.

A few facts I've gathered from other's experiences...Scott does not attend the M&G's so unlikely you will meet him.  Dave and Matt have each missed one or two.  I have never heard any bad comments - only positive remarks - towards the guys themselves and their treatment of the fans.  I thought I read somewhere that 40 is the max allowed for the M&G's so as to keep them manageable, but it wouldn't surprise me if Fanfire didn't adhere to that if it meant more money to be made.  There is no pulling up a chair and settling in for a comfy chit-chat.  So be prepared ahead of time about what you want to say to them as its about 90 seconds total with the entire band by some accounts.  They have been very strict on the no cameras/add'l pics allowed rule.  And it seems its been differing some on the item(s) to be signed.  At first it was the picture they gave you was it.  But lately they've been allowing any ONE item of your choice - except for guitars.  I'm not sure if they've allowed any of them in yet to be signed, but in the beginning they said definitely not.  And I believe they do allow you to go out to put your items in your car and let you back in.  Joya, the gal running the M&G's, is apparently very nice and approachabe and will guide you thru the process and answer any questions.

Definitely more than 40 at the New Year's Eve gig.  One guy brought a guitar that Slash not only signed, but also drew the skull and crossbones pic on.

A photo with the band is generally part of the package.   ;)

As someone else has said it is all what you make it out to be. We did it once and it was a great time. There were only 6 people that purchased the meet and greet and we actually got to talk to the guys more than i would assume you normally do. I brought Loaded Episode 99 live for Duff to sign and the Neurotic Outsiders album. Duff was so stoked i actually purchased the live disk way back when off of his site we talked for a great deal of time , as i handed the NO cd to my wife to put in her purse, Duff took notice and asked if i wanted it signed. I thought that was really cool, he even passed it to Matt to sign aswell. Duff is by far the most down to Earth member in the band. Great guy.

This has really pissed me off, its ridiculous maybe its the first time in 17 years that I am a gnr fan of , of the 27 years i am alive that i can understand fully how fuckin commercialized they are.   ::)  Its a big fuckin machine, thats for sure , such ashame    :-\    :-\

Sorry?  Selling records and making money keeps a band alive.  VR need to GUARANTEE that they're profiting from the touring etc, because they have a record label making sure of it.  They have commitments financially.  So of course they'll sell Meet and Greet.  LOADS of bands do it !   You are completely blind.

Title: Re: Meet and great packages......
Post by: ppbebe on March 23, 2008, 10:53:26 AM
aside from the unnecessary insults, spiritdave's post reads as it is necessary for a band whose record sales aren't good enough to keep the band alive.

I personally would never pay anyone to meet me.
If others do and happy about it it's their business, who am I to criticise them.

In the matter of fact I am blind, u aint got a clue, from here all the way to Texas and all the way back. Look my sig for more info.

VR need to GUARANTEE that they're profiting from the touring etc, because they have a record label making sure of it.  They have commitments financially.

The tour hasnt got to do anything with the rec. label fyi and they would be profiting anyway will less than <enter a figure here> revenue from money which at the end wont make any difference to them. So no need to be an asshole, i ve tried to express my view here , no need to turn it personal   ::)  You will be sorry if you continue like that. Is every board full of fuckin 8 year old ones or something?

LOADS of bands do it !

Didnt say the opposite but the shit i am reading from Weiland and the rest that we care about our fans and shit is fuckin bullocks dear, cause this PROVES the opposite. Comprende?

Now, go back where you came from and continue this discussion with a retard around whom i am sure you are gonna be able to find, not me. Ciao.

Reply with some better English and maybe I'll talk to you ... but for now, you're talking crap, so don't even waste my time.

If you think the tour has nothing to do with the record label, you're out of your mind.

Just like to point out that I made no insults in the post you're referring to.  I implied that ESTRANGED was not educated to the financial reasons and should open her mind and realise that VR's meet and greet's are no different from most other bands.

My insults came in my next post to her reply ... which was FULL of insults directed at me.

Fact is ... while I'd not pay to Meet and Greet, I do not believe that there's anything bad about them.
