according to TMZ, Flea from RHCP has lost his house

I just heard...one of the guys i'm stationed with here in Germany grew up on Point Dume, which he says is near Latigo, and his parents are evacuating. 

Supposedly Flea from RHCP's house is now burned down...ouch.

Looks like Axl's house is within the evac zone (according to the LA Times' zone overlay).

But it's a huge evac zone too.

Hope all goes well. It's such a beautiful, barren area too.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Flea purchased his 2,700-square-foot home last year, with a list price of $10.5 million.

According to KTTV, rocker Axl Rose lives in the area as well -- his home was damaged, but saved.

A rep for Flea could not be located.

Sorry for Flea's house too. Very fine house to burn to a crisp according to his own words. Hope Axl's is really okay because from what I could see his house was like in the middle of blazes - 1.13 miles from where the fire started.
Well, it's not like they can't afford rebuilding so, let's hope no lives are lost.
People's lives at least because I saw some animals that were burnt alive and it is just disgraceful.
Arson investigators have been dispatched. If that's the case hope they get the moron and lock him up for life.
Also, it kinda makes me wonder why they haven't built some sort of barriers to prevent fire from spreading all of the place since it is not like it's the first time it happens.

Hummm I hope it is true but LA times says it is true and they allegedly got a text msg from Flea saying his house had burnt to a crisp. I think LA is a more reliable source but then again you never know. Fingers crossed

Hopefully Beta will check in.  Hopefully everyone and the pets are safe and there's not too much damage.  And Axl saved the car!

Living in those hills is like playing russian roulette, not a damn thing you can do against a wall of fire.

This should be a lesson for us all --- collect what's important to you in one place so if you have to evacuate, you can grab a box and get out.
For me, I'm putting together a small box of all my important papers - copy of birth certificate, social security card, bank account numbers, my will, etc and
also a set of discs with my family photos on them.  Those are the only possessions I can think of that are truly irreplaceable, so if I ever had to evacuate, I'd grab that stuff, my dog,
and I'd be good to go.

Glad Axl, Beta, and their household members are okay....  Also glad Axl was able to help save his house.  It does suck that there was damage.  Now he's got to deal with his insurance company and I know from experience what a b*tch that is.  And hiring a private adjuster isn't the solution because they rip you off, too.  Most productive thing Axl can do is have someone he trusts in the construction business who knows their shit to assess the damage.  The insurance company's adjuster will always under-estimate and estimate the cheapest way to do things... cut corners and put things back sub-par.  Axl's house is an important asset of his and he sholdn't let them try to get over with half-ass repair/patch estimates or devalue his property due to the insurance company's not allowing enough $ in his claim to put things right.  It can take a long time to settle these claims if you gotta fight them trying to screw you...   I wish him the best and hope he has good people to work on this for him.

there were some real bad fires in the blue mountains,
and I live about an hour away from the mountains, and there was ash and smoke in the sky and falling on the clothes on clotheslines and into the swimming pools of surrounding houses where I live,
and Thats over an hour from where the fires are,
not to mention the canberra fires we had a few years ago too,
its a tradition in australia , that every year, we have bad fires,
But thats only thanks to the bastards that get kicks out of actually lighting these fires, and if they get caught , they serve alot of time in jail (thank god)

Flea, the bassist for the the Red Hot Chili Peppers, did not lose his home today in the Malibu fires.

KNX Newsradio confirmed that earlier reports that Flea's house burned down are untrue, according to his manager.

Report: AXL ROSE 'Fought To Save His Home' From Wildfire - Nov. 25, 2007

KCAL-TV (Channel 9), an independent station in Los Angeles, California owned by CBS Corporation, is reporting that GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose has plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend, but it was a close call. The wildfire in Southern California that left six firefighters hurt and destroyed dozens burnt his roof and all around his expansive property.

Rose's assistant Beta Lebeis, who lives on the property, says the rock legend fought to save his home. "He helped a lot," she said. "He did a lot. He was with the hose everywhere. Then the firetruck came in and locked us. So then they told us, 'Just close the garage doors and just go back in. There's nothing you can do,' because it was like an inferno outside."

I use to fight forest fires and those blazes are INSANELY hot. Im very happy the fire dept showed up when they did, cause those fires are so unpredictable that the wind could've blown a certain way and Axl may have been in deep trouble.

Like I said in a previous post, my house caught fire when I was young and YA it is scary!

You do want to do everything you can to help stop it!  But can be dangerous!  I tried too but the firemen sent me away so they could do their job.  I could have been killed easily.

The TV crew probably gained access to the area by a "freedom of the press" type thing because they were covering the fires.

There's a big difference between him giving them his permission to film his property or him using those images as he chooses (i.e. music video) than the press taking advantage of him during a horrible situation and invading his privacy like that. ?:no:

Malibu Fire 90 Percent Contained

(AP) MALIBU, Calif. The Malibu wildfire, which has scorched 4,900 acres, was 90 percent contained Monday, with full containment expected later in the day, authorities said.

Full containment was expected by 6 p.m., according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

"This has definitely been one of the worst fires we've had here in the Malibu area," Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Gil Sanchez said. "This fire took so many homes so quickly due to the Santa Ana winds that blew in such a short period of time."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the burn area Sunday and was briefed on the fire.

"We lost 53 homes -- that's the latest update that I've gotten -- which is very sad," he said. "We want to get those people back on their feet as soon as possible."

In addition, another 34 homes and 11 outbuildings were damaged, and about 27 outbuildings, 14 vehicles and one mobile home were also destroyed.

Damage might total near $100 million as a result of the fire, which began early Saturday at an isolated, dead-end mountain road notorious for late night bonfire parties, fire officials said.

Investigators said the fire was started by "human activity," but have not determined whether it was deliberately set.

Residents of Corral, Latigo and Escondido canyons were allowed to drive into their fire-ravaged neighborhoods Sunday night. Checkpoints ensured that only residents -- and not looters -- drove up the twisting canyon roads.

As many as 14,000 residents were ordered to evacuate Saturday.

Any news how bad the damage is around the house?  Can you imagine looking out on a land charred by fire?  It's going to take years for that to grow back and what is going to hold the land on the hillside when it rains?  How long is it going to take to wash way the evidence and smell of that?  And everytime the wind kicks up, they are going to wonder if a wall of fire is blowing their way.  Saved the house but this is going to take a long time to recover from.  This was far more than a little piece of the roof on fire wasn't it?

From some of the interviews I saw, the fire started in the middle of the night and caught a lot of homeowners by surprise.

Also, some homeowners do stay and try to defend their property. 

This fire seemed to move very quickly and probably surprised most.

I'm a little late joining this thread but nevertheless just wanted to voice my relief that Axl and those dear to him came through this safely.? And, of course, to add my thanks to Beta and Fernando for their updates which were very much appreciated.

The only good news that will come out of this,
If you want to look at it as good news,
is that There wont be another fire then now for a while, considering that now all the bush is burnt off,
It should be fine for the next few years...

Doesn't have to jump.  Head south and make a left.  Canal crossing and that's easy.

I am so glad Axl and Beta and Fernando are ok. I have experienced a small fire in the house and even a small fire will damage everything. It is going to be a pain in the ass to get everything fixed and the landscape will not be as nice but it will grow back as long as they do not receive rain and mudslides before they can rebuild.

Don't ya love Beta??? I bet she takes great care of Axl. She just seems like that type. And they were telling them to go back into the house because the heat from the surrounding fires was extreme so they didn't want them to be out there.

And I think Flea had two homes in the area and the one that burned was uninhabited so thankfully no one was hurt. He actually was selling it. Can you imagine that? Having to rebuild a house so you can sell it? That would just suck majorly.

Balls out salute to all those people because even though the area is beautiful, it does catch fire yearly and it would crush me to lose important things and have to rebuild. They all have balls of steel IMO.

Flea's house that was destoryed was being rented to Butch Walker (check him out on myspace).  Not only did he lose the house, but he had just moved everything he had ever owned into the house.  That included all the masters to his songs, every musical equipment he's ever owned, and all of his family photos,etc.  That sucks!

If you've ever lost your house, you realize what hurts the most are the things more personal in nature. Things that simply can not be replaced: Photos, personal belongings etc. Items that carry meaning and emotion, or had been passed down from family members. It's a feeling that is difficult to explain.

Read today five warrants have been issued, three arrested already in connection to the Malibu fires.? Apparently some shitheads were partying in a cave(?!) in some park near Malibu, and lit a campfire.? Campfires are forbidden in the whole area 24/7.? Apparently when their fire got out of control they just drove away, didn't try to contain it, or warn nearby residents.? Assholes.
Hope they spend some time in jail.

It has been a big problem out there. The people that live there have been complaining and nothing has been done to stop it. Stupid f@#king kids, out partying!! Was it worth it?

A Malibu, California woman who lives next door to GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose with her husband and three children credits the reclusive singer with helping save her home during the wildfire in Southern California that left six firefighters hurt and destroyed dozens last November.

A two-minute interview with the woman, who was not identified, conducted in November 2007 by the Los Angeles TV station Fox KTTV can be viewed below. A transcript of the chat follows:

Axl Rose's neighbor: "We just got home. We were in Santa Barbara for our anniversary ? my husband and I had our 24th anniversary ? and our daughter called us at 5 o'clock in the morning. I heard the words 'fire' and 'evacuation,' and I immediately knew, 'cause I've lived here for so long that I know what that means. And we tried to come back here, but, this fire was roaring in Malibu and, of course, they wouldn't let us in. So our children went to a friend's house in Beverly Hills and waited for us. We were there until this morning 'cause they didn't let us back in ? it was too dangerous to be up here."

Reporter: So you didn't know at all whether your house was OK until this morning?

Axl Rose's neighbor: "No, I did. I did. And the reason I did is that we have a neighbor that is just ? and I hope it's OK to say his name ? we have Axl Rose as our neighbor, and him and Beta [Lebeis], his manager, they saved our house together with the firefighters. Because they pushed the gate open and took the hoses that were lying around and they just hosed down whatever fire there was in the trees, in the palm trees, and they saved our house, they literally saved our house ? I mean, they literally saved our house. And my husband was in contact with Beta, but they didn't let us up, so we couldn't do anything, we just had to surrender and pray and hope."

Reporter: So it was because of them that your home?

Axl Rose's neighbor: "Yes, it was because of them and that one firefighter ? I mean, all the firefighters, but there was one in particular; I forgot his name now, 'cause I'm still a little nervous. Yeah, they saved our house. We're just blessed."

Reporter: How long have you lived here? And you have your son that lives with you?

Axl Rose's neighbor: "Yeah, we have actually three children. We've been here for 13 years, so we've been through many fires, but this was really the worst. The '96 fire was bad, because it was also in the Corral Canyon and then came here, but this one, it was just [that] the winds were so bad ? I mean, they were just roaring through the canyon. And it was so hot. We're very lucky. We're just so? I mean, I feel so blessed, I can't tell you.

Reporter: And good neighbors.

Axl Rose's neighbor: "Yes, we do. We have good neighbors."

Beta Lebeis, who lives on Rose's property, told the California TV station KCAL-TV that the rock legend also fought to save his own home. "He helped a lot," she said. "He did a lot. He was with the hose everywhere. Then the firetruck came in and locked us. So then they told us, 'Just close the garage doors and just go back in. There's nothing you can do,' because it was like an inferno outside."

Sure funny how people say Axl is a asshole and shit, but this show's everyone how great of a person he is and what he and Beta did is a great example of there are still good people in this world.

As skeptical as most celebrities can make you when you think about what kind of character they have and what kind of people they are this really shows you theres some amazing exceptions. That's an amazing act Axl and Beta did. House fires destroy so many things that a check from an insurance company can't ever replace.

I?ve read Axl does a lot of things to help others like abused children..etc over the years and this is unnoticed because he doesn?t do it to get a good publicity, he does this stuff from the heart. Even Slash said it 15 years ago in some interviews. I guess little things like this show that he isn?t a selfish and selfcentered person like others portray him. :)

it doesn't surprise me. i don't believe Axl is an asshole. I never have. That is just a persona people have tagged him with. I can totally picture Axl just down to earth in a meeting situation. If you treat him like a normal person, he'll return the favor. I've met my share of celebrities (mostly musicians) and if you just treat them like people... they are nice. Once you go overboard and treat them like a "celeb" then things change.

I think Dave Draiman of Disturbed said it best : " I did't change, everybody around me changed."

Don't forget about the benefit he did with Michael J Fox in regards to Parkinsons Disease, I think that was last year.

Axl's awesome. Seems like a great guy, it was cool to hear that story.
