There are a list of guidelines that they used for the list....for example, they didn't count anyone who both sings AND plays guitar, hence no Mustaine, Hetfield, etc. They also didn't count anyone who has a band named after themselves, since they consider it essentially a solo act rather than a full band (Springsteen). I'm paraphrasing here, but if you check out the site, you should find their disclaimer as to why they left certain obvious choices out... Of the many things mentioned, Bashir mentioned how we listened to Guns N' Roses' Use Your Illusion 1 and 2...and then they showed a picture of Velvet Revolver and that Axl picture that EW used.
