According to that link Ain't Goin Down was also recording during the Illusions sessions, however, it says that Heartbreak Hotel is from the Appetite session (three songs are listed there as Illusions songs, four are unknown, lets assume they are Illusion's). In Slash's book, and I found this on HereTodayGoneToHell also, it says they recorded 36 demos for the Use Your Illusion sessions. there are a total of 30 songs combined on both albums, take away My World and the alternate Don't Cry, and that's 28. With the 7 Illusions demos that I listed, that makes 35 from the Illusions sessions that we have. is there a song I'm missing somewhere? or is there a song we dont know about?

edit* after looking at it again, one of the unknown date ones i saw (Just Another Sunday) is also listed under Illusion sessions, and Sentimental Movie is listed under Appetite sessions. That means there are two songs unaccounted for.

They recorded the UYI albums and some of the "TSI?" tracks at the same time. That was the Punk EP they talked about at the time.

Izzy originally appears on those "TSI?" songs but his parts were later re-recorded by Gilby.

I believe the songs were Attitude, Black Leather, New Rose, Down On The Farm and I Don't Care About You.

Ain't Goin' Down was recorded too.

thanks for clearing that up, but you took away from the excitement of the mystery  ::)

I find it interesting how Slash/GNR stated they "cleaned out their closet" by pulling all the old songs written around AFD and put them on UYI and by doing so they would be working w/ a clean slate for the next album.

it's a shame they never released ain't goin' down....that song kicks fucking ass!!!

I think Ain't It Fun was recorded at that time too, Jarmo.

That session has the Mike Monroe collaboration and the lyrics to the song even appears on UYI booklet.

But I might be wrong.

I've always believed it was their intention to "close the chapter" and move on. Aparently it was only Axl's way over the years to go away from that sound and style... But I've always tought of the Illusions as the graveyard of what GN'R were at the time (the enormous big rock clich?) and that it was the band intention to move on and work more at reinventing itself.

Turns out that reinventing algo "killed" that line-up. But I also think it was the right thing to do, by any cost. It would be extremely boring and painfull to hear the same songs over and over again, with different lyrics and solos (as do Bon Jovi's, Cr?e's, Van Halen's etc)

Crash Diet is one of my favorite Guns N' Roses songs. I think Wes Arkeen does an awesome job.

Didn't one of the band members once say they recorded a version of The Stooges' "Down on the Street"?  I would have loved to hear that one.

Out of all these songs only Ain't goin' Down is the only one possibly from UYI era. Cause it sounds like Matt's count off in the begining. The rest are Appetite era. But all are Awsome!

Two songs were recorded for TSI? that were never released, and the demos have never escaped, either.

They were:

Beer And A Cigarette - Hanoi Rocks
Down On The Street - Iggy And The Stooges

And there's also "Nightcrawler" from the UYI sessions. A demo w/vocals exists, but the quality is horrible, and no lyrics can be made out.

Also, it's my personal belief that Bring It Back Home, Just Another Sunday, Too Much Too Soon and Sentimental Movie are from the UYI sessions AFTER Steven's firing, and BEFORE Matt's hiring - hence the use of the drum machine and not an actual drummer.

I understand the confusion, it is almost all the time labeled as UYI songs. I don't see how you can listen to Sentimentel Movie and think that is from UYI . The song is possibly one of the lamest Demo songs ever. If that song is from UYI era I would denounce the band for ever!
It sounds like it's Slash/duff's first song they ever wrote. Really a throw away song. but fun to hear 25 years later.

there is NO "Nightcrawler" demo...the demo you are talking about was a fake that was floated around....

ive been wondering about these timing issues since i got these demos in 1990 or so...i still dont think any information out there has definitively answered who was on drums and exactly when they were recorded. i do hear the drum machine on some tracks and i also hear a female backing vocal...any idea who that is?? (on "just another sunday").
