October 30, 2007 Pencil This In READING: We originally thought this was going down yesterday, but you still have a chance to see it! Not in a million years would we have thought we'd be listing a reading by former Guns n' Roses guitarist, Slash. But it turns out old rockers love to dish on their sordid lives, and this mysterious musician is no different. Tonight he'll read from his book, called Slash, which apparently "redefines sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll." That is also Slash-related news. There is a precedent here. Instead of making childish remarks and insults, why don't you just own the fact that you made an oversight and should've looked in the VR section? I was daydreaming all day that day at work about meeting Slash and posing with him for a picture...and how it would be my Christmas card this year...it was gonna read, "Slash and I wish you a rockin' Christmas!" I got in line about 5pm and signing was at 7pm. There were signs up all over Barnes and Noble with all these rules: No Personalized books 2 book min. to be signed No signing of memorabilia No pictures with Slash So, we get up there, and they took our camera approx. 20ft. away from him! It was so lame! B & N said Slash didn't want any flashes on him! When I finally met him, I first told him how hard he rocks, then proceeded to tell him how "un-metal" all the rules were! He just smiled and giggled. He was definitely friendly (and shy) the 2 seconds he gave you, but it was herd 'em in and herd 'em out kind of thing. It was so disappointing! Like IFINGLUVR said, probably like 200-300 people. So we saw his limo when we came out so about 5 of us decided to wait outside...including the kid that idolized Slash and wanted him to sign his guitar case...and when he came out we over heard him say "I'm done signing." And his security guards pushed us away and he cruised right into his car! He couldn't even stop for 1 sec. so we could get a pic of him! I get that he's a huge rockstar...but it's not f-ing 1992 dude! I guess the most disappointing part is that he so didn't care! I will always be a Slash fan, but I will never forget that experience and how he treated his fans. I'm not breaking up, but I won't ever feel the same about him. Title: Re: SLASH Schedules New York City In-Store - OCTOBER 30th Post by: leatherebel on November 01, 2007, 10:46:12 PM Well, that won't go very well in LA. If he gets 20 people for his book signing at the Wiskey next week, he'll be lucky.... are you serious? i have no idea, but i would think the turnout would be even better there than in nyc. Lame culture, lazy and bored (and stoned alot of the time) people, saturated market - that's Hollywood for you. There's a reason most celebs choose to live in the LA area and that's not just the good weather. It's because almost nobody cares about them. Except paparazzi who have to make a living....but they are all too busy following Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, so some outdated rocker shouldn't need to worry. You can walk into 5 random Hollywood clubs on the Sunset strip on a Wed night and see dozens of "legendary" rockers performing at the same time in front of 50 people who got in for just $10 or less. Title: Re: SLASH Schedules New York City In-Store - OCTOBER 30th Post by: leatherebel on November 01, 2007, 11:00:30 PM BTW, an LA friend told me that Slash's book signing appearance at the Whiskey is being advertized on the LA Weekly as performance.....This is most likely BS, but again, who cares in LA??
So, how much was the book at B&N in NYC? It's about $15 on amazon new and shortly one will most likely to buy it used for less than $10...... Not saying it's not worth to pay $20 or more for a book with a autograph but at least make it personable....and let people take a damn picture.....
