Title: What's the deal with "Silkworms"?
Post by: smokinGun on October 22, 2007, 12:28:59 AM
When I first heard this song, I had to keep looking, because I thought I'd found the wrong one. But when I looked up the lyrics on google and realized it really was by GNR, I couldn't believe it. This is probably one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Why would Axl even make a song like this? I have heard all of the leaks off CD, and I like a lot of them, but if I was just the casual fan, and I heard Silkworms, I know I'd be thinking to myself "Wow, 13 years into this album, and this is what he has to show for it?"

you are entitled not to like it. The song is a killer rocker, I love it. Dizzy and Chris wrote it FYI...

You heard a distorted LIVE version.? You need to experience it LIVE, because its the best LIVE song for sure.? Studio version will BLOW you away if and when it comes out.

I think its terrible. You dont need to hear a song live to know if you consider it to be a good song or not, it can enhance the experience and you may get a better feel for the song but in your heart you know a lame song when you hear it.

The lyrics and the structure make me cringe, apart from that its ok. :-X

Whenever I hear the rio version,

just before axl starts "singing"
I always think I hear like  a windows  computer sound,

I personally think the lyrics are pretty cool and out their,
but the whole instrument/synth, and whatever else they do is a total car crash,

I like the licks of guitar in the middle, but it only lasts a few seconds,
so The song needs some more work,
but cant see it on cd... :hihi:

I think that it's a good song.

Call me crazy, but I think that My World is a really good track too.

I don't think that Axl is into that kind of music anymore.
He's back to something more classic hence his collaboration with Sebastian Bach.

Axl obviously allowed Pittman to try something a little different that was a little more elctro/industrial sounding.

I don't think we will ever see this song again though, much like "Oh my god" Axl has forgotten about it.

Hear hear !

I'd like it if GNR did more songs like Silkworms. Not necessarily an entire album or anything but something like it now and again.

I want to hear the final version slated to be on the follow up to Chinese Democracy. Axl said that it was Sasha's favorite.

I thought the song had a lot of potential. A really nice opening, but I thought that it got to cluttered.

I guess this is what I heard, supposedly happened at the Versace show. It's more of a rumor then.

"She was with Axl and Axl was talking about Silkworms and said it was her favorite song and I think she agreed and said it was amazing, or something. Axl said the final version is nothing like what we heard at RiR and that it will blow people away. He praised Buckethead's work on the song.

It also isn't called Silkworms anymore. "

I love the synth "breakdown" bit in the middle of the song :smoking:

I like the lyrics of Silk Worms, but I'm really not into these synth-effect songs. Still I'm anxious to hear this one on record, could be interesting ! Beats My World any day  :)

First off, I don't agree at all, but thats fine and we all have our own opinions.

However, to call this one of the worst songs you have ever heard?!?! Are you kidding me!!! ::)
Look, artists try new things, atleast the good ones do. And sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but lets give them some fuckin credit for trying something outside the box.

When I first heard this song I loved it, and I still do, the beginning is amazing. The lyrics, not so much. But I do like listening to the song regardless, it's just theres something about it.. something that makes me turn the volume up and appreciate the artistic value in it. The music, the feeling, it all seems to mold together and even though it's not a very long track nor a very good lyrically written track, it still has that "it" factor for me that makes me want more.

So, I love the song, and hey i'm glad that we can all share our diff. opinions and discuss  :peace:

People who went to the two Vegas gigs on december 2001 thought this was one of the strongest songs of the set.

I think it may have great potential. People also bitched about the intro, even if the new Chinese (the song) intro has almost the same feel...

Id love to hear one of those Vegas performance or, of course, a studio version. I'm sure it's a lot better than people think. :)

its a really bad rip off of Prodigy circa 1997, but it does'nt sound finished. Certainly not as bad as Oh My God-Oh My God is just a horrible song from the ground up.
