Title: Can this be true?! Boxing in sweden
Post by: Sin Cut on September 27, 2007, 06:37:24 AM
This is from a finnish paper. It's a screenshot from the online version.

The area surrounded by red says:

The boxing match between Asikainen and Toutzet will last only four rounds, because it  isn't allowed to arrange profesisonal full scheduled fights in sweden.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

probably the politicians that is concerned about peoples health.. 20-30+ years after your career your brain pretty much is not half of what it was before.. also some people think it's wrong that people earn money when some guys beat the shit out of each other

but anyway, since 1 january 2007 it's legal in sweden to arrange pro boxing games, but only if you have permission from the county and the matches is limited to 4 rounds
in norway, cuba and iceland pro boxing is still banned

Pro boxing has been banned in Sweden since 1970.

Since January 1st, 2007 pro boxing is allowed, but only for four rounds.

Other glorious nations where professional boxing is banned are Cuba, Iceland and North Korea....  :hihi:

This law pretty much sums up the Swedish mentality.

You don't know what's good for you, but thank God we have people who do!

This while the Swedes themselves are quick to point out how the country is the best in the world.... ;)

True, may things are great here, but it's far from perfect.

I say we invade Sweden to avenge this breach of Scandinavian law. It's not up to the people to hurt themselves. That is strictly government territory.

This is strange. One big blow to the head can cause serious damage. Either sanction matches even if it's a 12 rounder or don't allow it at all.? :-\

Or maybe Sweeden should instill a "one shot to the head and we call for the bell" law, in order to prevent more harm to the brain.? : ok:

Well, the government takes care of us and they know what's best for us.

We can't buy wine at the supermarket, because it's not good for us.  :hihi:

Some things are better in Finland.

Some aren't.

Finland today is far better than it was 20 years ago.

Hell, you sound like Varg Vikernes... :hihi:

I don't think that this is a big deal, boxing isn't the most enjoyable sport either way.

In how many countries have you been and visited a liqour store?

Why the hell do they throw the match in Sweden in the first case?

I wonder if the tickets are any cheaper since it's a minimatch.

They do have a great selection.

But that's only because they have to since it's a monopoly.....

I'm sure they could continue selling alcohol there even if we were allowed to buy it in supermarkets.

Supermarkets would only sell the most popular items and when you want something else, you'd go to a liquor store with a big selection.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mourn the monopoly, like all grown men, I would love to be able to get my beer at ICA Maxi, open every day, 7.00-20.00, instead of taking the ferry to denmark every second month, loading up father-in-laws green Volvo V70.

It seems like the general assumption would be that Sweden sucks. :hihi:

Conan O'Brien once said it, so it has to be the truth.

We drink the booze, beat up the bigmouthed Swede, Norvegian or Dane. Then we go to work so we can get more booze.

Oh and we also got this thing called m?mmi.
