Title: Sex Pistols
Post by: BlowUpYourVideo on September 20, 2007, 12:06:25 PM
I searched and couldn't find a thread on the Pistols (:o). I made this one because they're reuniting for a one-off show (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7000180.stm) later this year, but it's just a place to discuss them in general.

Never Mind The Bollocks is one of my favourite albums and it's probably better that they broke up soon after it came out. They can only be judged musically on that one album.

So, love them or hate them??

well...they reform for "one offs" more than once lol.

They are an importent band in musical history, and i think anyone who tries to take there credability away from them with the manager bullshit, is just retarded.

They are an importent band in musical history,

For me, easily one of the 2 most infuential bands of my lifetime.  It's not even close.

My favorite record of all time, the best concert I've ever seen ('96 Filthy Lucre)

I think they're jumping on the bandwagon a bit ( Zep , Van Halen, Etc)

But with that said, they're a damn important band in music history and hats off to 'em for doing a concert for their fans after all these years.

Sex Pistol savages 'dead carcass' Sting

Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon, formerly Johnny Rotten, has slammed reformed 1970s band the Police.

Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon has slammed reformed 1970s band the Police as "soggy old dead carcasses", singling out Sting for a particularly colourful barb.

The former Johnny Rotten made the comments two days after announcing that his legendary punk band are to stage a one-off reunion gig in November, to mark the 30th anniversary of their album Never Mind the Bollocks.

Referring to Sting as "Stink," he said of the reformed Police: "That really is a reformation isn't it? But honestly that's like soggy old dead carcasses.

"You know listening to Stink try to squeak through 'Roxanne' one more time that's not fun," he said, referring to one of the Police's biggest hits.

"It's like letting air out of a balloon," added the 51-year-old.

The Police, a three-piece British rock band led by 55-year-old Sting who has had a string of hits, are currently in the middle of an international reunion tour, which started in Canada.

The Sex Pistols, who spearheaded the 1970s punk movement in England with singles like "Anarchy in the UK" and "Pretty Vacant", announced this week that they will play at the Brixton Academy in south London on November 8.

Lydon also gave his views on musicians' use of drugs, which he said was a "bit old fart".

Referring to drug-troubled British singers Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse, he told Virgin Radio: "You know you can use drugs for entertainment, but you should be quiet about it. That shouldn't be your centre showpiece.

"There's not much going on in their head with them. They're not thinking. They're not doing this for the right reasons."

Sid Vicious - the one-time Sex Pistols bass player who died of a drug overdose in 1979 - was the same, he said.

"They obviously don't enjoy what they're doing. And that's why you turn to drugs. And that's what happened with Sid [Vicious], he wasn't happy about what he couldn't do.

"It's a slow suicide and it's a cry for help because they're in pain, they're in mental pain. And this is a disgusting industry because people just cut you dead."

This could also go in The Police section too, I guess.

i saw one of the pistols reunions a few years back, it was one of the funnest shows i've ever been to. paying $70 at a casino to see fat 50 yr olds who only know 12 songs isn't very punk (well, only knowing 12 songs is i guess), but i grew up listening to that album over and over, never thought i'd get to see them live so i enjoyed for all it was worth. even caught paul cook's water bottle and met glen matlock after the show. so yea, if you're in london check em out, you probably won't have many more chances.

oh and btw, i really really doubt the pistols are taking any leads from van halen or zepplin

I always prefer covers of Sex Pistols songs to the originals. I never liked the Sex pistols as much as most of their contemporaries.
