Title: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on September 18, 2007, 01:51:13 PM As i? am much to Inebreated to compete in this competition ... I surrender. ... like the fuck I do.
My submission Wild Turkey 101 ... no cheatin' either : I'm drinkin' "nea"t, no ice or anything else: first taste: I taste a lot of honey(no cheatin), with that "almost buttery" flavor, a little of apple, and of course, just a bit of leather. second(mid) any time I ever try that "whiskey tastin", I always get drunkered'n shit. Goddamn, two or three, OK, on the back, on the back, ... are you shitin' me. Whiskey ain't got a goddamn thang to do with shit. I will sober up ... fuck the rest? see my sig. You are the coolest elementary school bus driver I ever knew. :rofl:Drambuie. Nectar of the Gods. :) Straight. Keep the ice in your tea. Agreed on the ice (and on the Drambuie, which I haven't had for far too long). First rule of Whisky Club is DO NOT ICE YOUR WHISKY! All the sweetness one would expect from a good Bourbon ... fruity, with a little mint, no leather ... smooth as silk.
Now it is Knob Creek(Clermont's finest)100?, 9 year old. I think I burnt my taste buds out, but here goes ... compared to the Ridgemont, there is a little leather, on the nose, it is fruity with noticeable traits of butternut. the butter follows through on the front with an almost walnut? in the mid, with a moderate amount of honey. In the Back ... the honey is obvious with a warm soothy feeling(hey, that reminds me of my ex-wife, if it only tasted as good) Conclusions: the KB has a little more leather, and is not as sweet, but what is to be expected. (http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/soliussymbiosus/knobcreek.jpg) (http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/soliussymbiosus/IMAGE_095.jpg) Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on October 06, 2007, 05:28:56 AM Old Rip Van Winkle 107?, 10 year old. It has a someshat fruity bouquet with sweet hints on the front. Mid- butter comes on strong. I'm tasting a little honey now, but my taste buds were burnt out earlier in the evening. little or no leather, and it doesn't linger.
I know there is some liquor drinkers on this forum, make your preferences known. I'll log off now before I ... Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: CSS on October 06, 2007, 01:42:43 PM Honey? :P

I drank Early Times - shit cheap brand when I was a kid and ended up in the hospital. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on October 08, 2007, 05:20:33 PM Maker's Mark is the preferred whiskey of choice! It is a good begginers whiskey. It is the one that I recommend most commonly to those who are "uninitiated". However, rarely is it on a connoiseur's list of 10 best Bourbons. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: Lisa on October 08, 2007, 10:53:32 PM I am no connoiseur but I did have Glenfiddich Special Reserve the other evening at a friends...sort of tasted smooth and was quite light,an almost fruity tongue on it..overall it seemed quite dry

It is the one that I recommend most commonly to those who are "uninitiated". However, rarely is it on a connoiseur's list of 10 best Bourbons. Yes. I agree. Unfortunately, that is probably the limit I will spend on good whiskey. If I had money to piss away, I would definitely go more high end. I salivate when in the whiskey aisle to see all the expensive whiskeys and long to try them. Plus, booze never lasts around my house. I'm lucky if the damn bottle lasts more than a week. Do you have a recommendation of something that is around $30 to $50 a bottle? Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on October 09, 2007, 03:14:50 PM Lots. I like Rare Breed, Woodford, Pouge, any of the Van Winkle family, any of the Four Roses; if you can find it(especially the Barrel Proof),and any single barrel or small batch will be good depending on your taste. If you can get the 4 roses small batch, it is a good deal at around $25- $30. Oh ... don't forget Knob Creek. It is around the same price as 4 Roses SB. Bulleit is a good "cheap" Bourbon with a high rye content, if you like that, give it a try.

Once I got there, Mr. Pogue was there, with a helper, giving out free samples of his fine liquor.
After that, my intention was to purchase a bottle of his wares, but I came across the 4 Roses single barrel first ... so, my impression; mind you this is after a few. So, take it with a grain of salt. Four Roses Single Barrel: 100?, there is no age statement, but it tastes very mature. Whether this is an artifact of the maturation process, or something peculiar to the the particular climate during production, I do not know. This batch came from wharehouse TN; barrel #85-5J Damn! I have a good one here. I almost hate to drink it. Nose: has a very fruity sniff; applely and cherry I'm having one OTR, and my taste buds have undoubtly already been burnt tonight. This is a very distictive whiskey. Very sweet with the fruitiness coming on strong. Noticable honey with absolutely no leather. There is a slight amount of bitter on the tip and mid on the side. It lingers with a hickorish after taste that is quite pleasant. There is other flavors that I am not picking up on (due to intoxication or burnt tongue). Oh yeah, apple. It reminds me of eating green apples as a child. If you enjoy fine whiskey, and don't mind spending a dollar or two, this is definately a treasure you will come to cheerish. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on November 17, 2007, 04:29:52 AM Ok, I was given a jug of Early Times. Now I know why. Actually the guy ask me what I drink, and I told him, but he came out with this. So, here we go:
This whiskey is very sweet ... too sweet. They have to be adding sugar to the bill. There is no way that wood(oak anyway) has this much sugar in it. Now I know why Churchill Downs uses this as their house "Bourbon"(they sell a lot of juleps) ... it ain't fucking Bourbon. They can put Ky all over the label and doesn't change a thing. In fact, if one looks close enough, that person will notice that no where does say Bourbon, but Ky is prominant. On to the taste: other than sweet, this liquor reminds me of what socks taste like ... the kind of socks that a wino has been wearing for a month. It also lingers with something that reminds me of catpiss. This is some nasty shit ... now I know why people put cola in their whiskey. In fact, I have some gasoline that I am thinking of adding to this ... it can't hurt the taste. In conclusion, I wouldn't give this shit to my dog. Anybody need any mouthwash? Needless to say, I didn't touch whiskey for years and years. Now, it's another story but I still will never, ever touch that stuff. You couldn't even pay me to drink it. It is restricted to those markets at present due to production limitations. You probably can't find the single barrell except in Ky and Japan. You might be able to find it online. 4 Roses did have a limited European distribution for one of their brands, but I can't remember which one. Bowmore 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, from Islay. For those who don't drink Scotch, Islay produces the peatiest and smokiest of all Single Malts, which are a personal favorite. This is the fourth Islay distillery from which I've purchased a full bottle, out of eight that are currently operating. The serving is shown in my brand spankin' new Glencairn Whisky Glass (http://www.glencairn.co.uk/), the first glass specifically designed for tasting whiskies, and engraved with the name of my favorite distillery (Lagavulin...also on Islay). Although, as soon as I unload my pictures from my camera, I have to show you guys this bottle of tequila we got as a gift. It looks like a bong with two types of tequila in it - a light tequila on the outside and a dark tequila on the inside - both very good and smooth. Upon moving back home about 6 months ago, we found that our kitchen has two Lazy-Suzans. We immediately turned one into a spinning liquor cabinet which we refer to as our Lazy-Boozen. Anyway, it's currently stocked with: 1 random bottle vodka 1 random bottle gin 1 handle Bacardi dark rum (because dark rum makes a MUCH better rum n' coke) various liqueurs 1 handle Cuervo gold (not getting much use in the winter) 1 bottle Lagavulin 16 yr Single Malt (my personal fave) 1 bottle Bowmore 12 yr (quickly becoming a fave) 1 bottle Edradour 10 yr (Scotland's smallest distillery) I just killed my Ardbeg 10 yr, and am already eager to replace it with something new. As Islay malts are already twice represented, I may go Speyside for my next purchase, though I've been wanting to try Springbank, as well. I'm currently out of bourbon/American/Canadian whiskey, either for mixin' or sippin'. As far as mixed drinks go, I tend to go from rum and coke to whiskey and coke, so the run currently fills that need. The vodka is mainly used with cranberry juice or tonic. The gin is generally used in tonics, but if I get the appropriate stuff, I'll mix up a martini, too. Don't get me started on beer. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on January 18, 2008, 01:35:54 AM The gin is generally used in tonics, but if I get the appropriate stuff, I'll mix up a martini, too. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: fuckin crazy on January 26, 2008, 03:41:35 AM I picked up a bottle of Bulliet tonight. It is the first time I have had this in about a year. Of course, one must take this review with a "grain of salt" as my tongue has been burnt.
(http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb259/soliussymbiosus/DSCN0103.jpg) This is a very distintive Bourbon. Technically, it is a Bourbon, but the mash bill on this just makes it legally Bourbon whiskey. It is 75% corn and nearly 25% rye(Tman it has your name all over it). The rye is the first thing noticed. It has a very earthy smell and taste. It is proofed at 90?, but there is no age statement on the bottle. Bulliet has a patented "aging" process, but most think that the wharehouses are heated to speed up the maturation. On to the taste: The first thing one notices is the nuttiness on the nose with just a hint of vanilla. Vanilla is noticeably absent on the front, but apple and cinnamon are prevalent. Some have noticed a little heat on the finish, but I barely noticed(old drunk?) There is absolutely no leather discernable in this fine product. I recomend anyone looking for a little spice to consider this, albiet archaic reciept, fine whiskey. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: Tatiana Kudrin on January 26, 2008, 03:54:46 AM It is pretty tempting :D

Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: Dead N' Bloated on February 07, 2008, 08:36:00 AM When people win they tend to have a drink to celebrate but if that makes them a loser then does that mean they didn't win?
If a non drinker is a winner, how do you celebrate? :peace: Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: freedom78 on February 07, 2008, 12:04:40 PM When people win they tend to have a drink to celebrate but if that makes them a loser then does that mean they didn't win? But if you win, and then drink to celebrate, I think it makes you .500. Non-drinkers never win. They're too busy being self-righteous. I didn't want to start a thread for this and I know I said I would post a pic of this wild tequila we got for christmas. I hope I do this right. It's called Romance Tequila because there is a dark tequila in the center and a light tequila outside. Makes a pretty good looking bong too!
Check it out: Ok. How do I get a damn image in here? Sorry. I'm trying to quit smoking. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: freedom78 on February 19, 2008, 10:39:05 PM Good tequila can be quite tasty. I can't say I've delved too deeply, but a Mexican friend once shared a decent bottle with me. Good stuff!

Freedom, at my brothers last weekend, he pulled out a couple of bottles of Balvenie (single barrel) and Oban. They were both good, but I preferred the peppery taste(peatyness?) of the Balvenie. Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: Angel Down on February 20, 2008, 06:04:09 AM Ahhhh, the peppery taste ;)
Title: Re: Whiskey/whisky Post by: freedom78 on February 20, 2008, 12:22:29 PM That is a cool looking bottle. Freedom, at my brothers last weekend, he pulled out a couple of bottles of Balvenie (single barrel) and Oban. They were both good, but I preferred the peppery taste(peatyness?) of the Balvenie. Hmmm...Oban tends to be peatier than Balvenie, so that probably wasn't what you were tasting. Probably just another spice flavor. And, Balvenie is probably the better malt, overall. If you want to try one that's spicy/peppery, try Talisker 10 yr. Not only is it a really top notch whisky, but it's widely available. Of course, with all scotch (unless you know you generally love scotch) the best option is to lay down the $6-8 to try it in a nice quiet bar, first. Nothing worse than buying a bottle of something and not liking it. Any south shore Islay malt is fantastic, though not for the fragile palate. I certainly wouldn't make Laphroaig a "starter" scotch for someone new to the drink. |
