I don't know. A few years ago when I was living in an apt. block someone threw out a complete reel to reel system for the garbage. I snagged it of course due to never seeing one before. I was able to record music onto one of the reels that was empty so I'm dubious if thats a genuine GnR original and not some knock off.

"THIS IS IT!!! THE DEMO TAPE THAT LAUNCHED THE MEGA-STAR ROCK GROUP

GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL

I GOT IT FROM THE PROMOTER HIMSELF"

What promoter?

I'm not exactly Mr. Trusting when it comes to the net, so my thoughts will always question ebay items like this.

Cheers

Scree

Yeah that auction caught my eye as well.

The comment about "I got it from the promotor himself" - also got me suspicous.? What's the promotor got to do with it?? What promotor?? Why would the promotor have it?? "The sound engineer" or someone similar would be more plausible??

The seller is also a brand new seller on ebay - yet in the item description they talk about all the other crap they have for sale, have pictures of their shop and invite you to check out their ebay store the_bear_shop.? If that's the case why are they not selling under their regular username?

Also the box is strange, there's brown stains all over it which you could expect from age and the passage of time, yet strangely the square bit of paper in the middle where it says "Guns N' Roses  Welcome to the Jungle etc etc" is completely clean - almost like it has been stuck on only recently.

Dunno - it could be legit but seems suspicous???

Jarmo you need to forward this one too management!! If its real then Axl would probably like it back. And if its a fake they can get it removed.

Here's his response to my message I sent him asking for more info:

I worked at an office building in Dallas Tx. I became friends with the promoter as with every other tennant. Spent more time at his office suite because of the platinum and gold records that graced the walls and real talent came and went. Fun place to hang out. So much is given to a promo., that soon all storage fills as it was the day the fire-marshal came and levied a fine by the day. promoter called goodwill but as security I stepped up and took responsibility. wall to wall, floor to ceiling truly. My wife and I hauled everything off. I have already sold many items from this all genuine..Cinderella, M.C. Hammer Demos from the day man how cool any way..still got stuff. The promoters name is Ernie Phillips and I still have originals with his name too. Thanks for SHARING..NEXT TIME I WILL HAVE TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE JUKE BOX AND M.C.HAMMER ON THE FREIGHT ELEVATOR...

yeah he commented back too my about the caps. He did apoligize about that. So I guess that goes to you. I told him the same thing about the price. No one is going to bid anyway.
I did report it too! Ebay hardly ever does anything thou.

thats very true about ebay, they keep on about ebays policies etc etc, ive reported shit loads in the past and nothing ever gets done about it. its like beating a dead horse? :hihi:

? i bet theres about 100 ebayers watching the item so he thinks theres probably gonna be a mad rush of bids in the closing stages, little does he know were all watching just to see if anyone is daft enough

Unfortunately there is a sucker born everyday. $1000 is a lot, but would bet that if it were $250 someone would have taken a chance without knowing.

Btw:? If anyone reads my posts they may know I used to work with Record companies and CD Replication / Vinyl.? If I were given a master 'gold' CD. I could have easily transferred that data to tape in order to duplicate other media. It isn't difficult. Passing it off as the original would be a piece of cake. Unfortunately this guy got he's dates all screwed up.

And yes, to the people commenting on Ebay being a playground for scammers. I always chuckle at the Nirvana Greatest Hits CD, signed by Kurt Cobain together with a drawn smiley face. Unfortunately Kurt had been dead several years when Greatest Hits was released!

Well we stirred up enough trouble that he did question his source, but he is sticking too his word. I think this guy has been honest and just has been lied too himself. I don't question other items he may have. He was very nice too me later.

Sometimes eBay does monitor a little too well.? Once, about ten years ago or so now, I was banned from eBay for a month for selling a GNR unplugged cd.? Granted, technically they were right, but at least it was a real silver cd with case and booklet not like the shit you see these days.? When I got banned I told them about all the scalpers (tickets) on eBay and they never did respond.? True, the reel is probably fake and even if it wasn't, way overpriced (and this is coming from someone who spends a lot of $$$ collecting).? But, you never know.? For example, you could probably ask the members of GNR (former) and their management (former) about some test pressings I have and they would say they never knew they existed.? Doesn't mean they are fake.? So to call someone a fraud on a public forum might be a mistake - speculate all you want but to say outright that they're a fraud???? I don't know.? Just my two cents
