Now this topic is slightly different to asking what songs you would like to see the band cover, if indeed they do choose to.

What I am asking is, if the band were to play a song, say live, then what song would you love to hear Axl's voice on?

Forget the politics involved in covering a song. What song would Axl's voice own?

Personally, I would love to hear him sing the Doors LA Woman, I just think that his voice would be perfect for that song.

I would also love to hear him sing Tool's Hooker With a Penis, because he can get a great sense of agression in his voice, like Maynard does in that song, and I just think that it would be interesting.

I can clearly hear Axl?s voice on that "run away from the pain" part.

It'd be cool to hear them do "No Rain" (that catchy overplayed Blind Melon song). It's such a cool concept and has really mellow-sad lyrics that they matched with this upbeat pop type song - as a mocking of the real emotion- Unfortunately, not many people got it and it's still being played on pop stations & taken as a happy little song. I'd love to hear Axl do a darker heavier rendition, expressing the real emotion in it. Maybe as a tribute to Shannon too.

Why doesn't he just blow off this bunch and go with Zack Wylde and his band or the Queen guys. I have always thought that the song "This Flight Tonight" by Nazareth has a very Axl-like sound in fact I used to think it was him.

I think he would do a very good rendition of it. And now that I know it came out in the early '70's, to me it's almost like he got inspiration to become a singer from that song, that's how much I think it sounds like him.

Edit: I doubt he did. but the song sounds eerily like him. that was the point I was getting at.

Him singing Set Me Free by VR would be cool.  Although I don't think it would sound much different cause Scott is doing his best Axl impression on that one.  I'd love to hear him do another Aerosmith cover.  Maybe Draw The Line?

In all reality, I doubt that GNR will cover any more songs on subsequent albums. I noticed that most of the songs a lot of you guys posted have already been covered by GNR: the Zeppelin trax and a few of the ACDC songs have been played. Nearly all of the songs you guys listed have been covered to death by all sorts of bands. I don't think it would be a good career move if GNR was to cover any VR tracks: it'll make Axl look like a fool. I really just want Axl+Co. to release CD, so we can hear a bunch of new songs. But hey not to put a damper on things, here are a few trax I think should be covered:

1. Across The Universe - The Beatles
2. Aubrey - Bread
3. Runaway Train- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

That's all I can think of. Axl wouldn't necessarily want well known songs to be covered, especially ones that get lots of radioplay. These are pretty rare to hear on the air.

Well, it is simply one of my favorites. I love the lyrics. It's fast, it's a challenge to any singer. And it's an amazing sonc that carries fun and energy. The guitar on it is simply top cool, great fun for any guitarist and axl's voice would probably do this well.

Mike, same with me. I was a HUGE Metallica fan until that late 90's shit. They all cut their hair, Kirk starts painting his fingernails, and releasing mediocre albums. Such a shame! They stained their legacy, and will probably never recover from it. The only good songs they've done since the Black album are 'Fuel' and 'The Memory Remains'. Another Metallica song I'd like Axl to do is 'The Small Hours' from the Garage Days cover album. That song is INTENSE! I know you'll laugh at this, but another song I always thought Axl should cover is Creedence's 'Born on the Bayou'.

Another cool song for Axl to sing would be Death Angel's 'Veil of Deception'. Most of you probably haven't heard it. They were an Asian speed metal band that did a couple of slower songs. 'Veil of Deception' is one of them. Its from their Act III album, released in 1990.

Theyre getting back together?? :o :o I didn't know that! Not only is that album the most underrated album of all time, its the best album of the late 90's. You're right: everything about that album kicked ass. I've always been surprised by the small attention the album got. It was a breath of fresh air in the Britney/N-Sync/Backstreet Boys/Puff Daddy/Limp Bizkit era.

Since I rediscovered the album, Ive been going driving with my old man pretty much every night, and we'll split a few joints and just listen to this album all night it feels like...He summed it up perfectly too when he was like: "Calen, Ive always loved your taste in music, but I can honestly say this is the best album you own, and too think it's 8 years old now. Just every song is a breath of fresh air and makes you want to go out and enjoy every second of your life."

I always knew my dad was a smart guy, but he hit the nail on the head, as did you. When that album came out in 98, everything on radio and TV was rap crap or Nu-metal and it fucking sucked...then out of nowhere came this rock band with a front man whose face you couldn't even see, just a bucket hat and they brought with them the most inspired and passionate rock in years..

Like seriously, can you name another album from that era in the late '90s that had that much heart and soul in every song? Probably not..

I bet you any money in the world if Axl put out a stripped down rock album like this instead of Oh My God during that year, he would have reclaimed his throne. Sure the direction was different, but it would have kicked the whole music scene's ass..

Yep, we live in a parallel world.

All the sites I found were mostly "Did you know they broke up 7 years ago?" or old message boards that havn't had a user in like 3 years. Weird thing is though, since they broke up so Gregg Alexander could persue producing, almost every year he uploads an anonymous and untitled track of his onto P2P networks. The guy has a total "Axl Rose-ish" following as his fans are so desperate for new material they eat up these anonymous tracks when they recognize his voice afer the first listen. I only found maybe one active board, and all the threads are pretty much speculative on a new album, or even more so than we are on Chinese Democracy :hihi:

It's funny how old, almost forgotten bands like that get no attention on the forums, while Gn'R who hasn't released an album in like 15 years has a huge following on the net.. :hihi:

The other thing too is that even after the first listen of that album, I knew that a follow up would be just as, or even more superb! I just got from a vibe from Gregg  that he has no shortage of great material already written to turn to in the future when he decides he's ready..

Back on topic, I just listened to 'Sweet Thing' by Mick Jagger, and I think Axl doing this would even kick more ass than Jagger did. Its a pretty obscure Jagger solo tune, but kicks major ass.

I remember some time ago people were writing here about what cover song they would want Axl to sing on. Well the only song he really should do as a cover of, let?s say a b-side of a single, is ?Against all odds?!

I?m just thinking of the incredible vocals he was displaying on ?Sailing? last year, and ?Against all odds? would really let him go off with that voice. It?s not only that he sacrifices his voice when singing, he finds his own way of making others songs. And I think ?Against all odds? need something that doesn?t sound so 80?s or 90?s. Also I think the lyrics suit him and the way he writes some of his own ballads.

Imagine the melody from Phil Collins hit song, with a modern metal sound and Axl?s vocals on top of it.

I don't know about that.  Decent song, I'm sure Axl would do a fine job with it and I loved "Sailing", but Phil Collins?  Although Disturbed did a re-make of "Land of Cofusion" by Genesis, and some other current band did a cover of "In the Air Tonight".  Phil is gaining in popularity.

This is going to sound really wierd...but I was forced to listen to someone else's music choices today...a song came on that I thought may be Christina Aguillera (thanks to a lousy sound system).  Couldn't stop thinking how much of a 'This I Love' feel it had, and how great it would sound if Axl sung it (as a duet).

'She's a Lady' by Tom fucking Jones.  There, I said it. The Whoa-Whoa-Whooa part Axl could sing the first time like Tom, then later add his flavor to.  I can imagine the last chorus sounding like 'She's a layy-dee...(high notes:) Ahhh AH AHHahh (kinda like Riad) she's a layydee...'  I like to do an impression of Axl doing a cover of that song.  In my car, alone, of course.  You know it'd maybe be a good song to do before or after If the World and Richard's solo, or something... funky. I can kinda see that.  But it would probably disrupt the flow of the current setlist, a curiosity much like If the World was early last year.

Maybe some Janis or Tina Turner, CCR, maybe some Blind Melon. Something soulful and gritty, maybe Motown, or Southern Rock.  Maybe play the fuck out of an old (good) Metallica song, putting James and Lars in their place in the process. Anyway, they havent quite sold me on Riff Raff yet - not sure if it's quite Gnr-caliber.  Nice Boys and Rosie were stellar last year.  'specially Rosie at L'Arc, Nice Boys with Duff.  He needs to get his chainsaw growl back for those (and YCBM and NR) though.  This tour is basically about Axl putting it all together, being able to sing high/clean and growl/dirty when he wants, taking the reins off the band and letting them ROCK, and playing new songs when they return to the U.S.  But we still wont see Axl's charisma and exchanging with the crowd until the reunion ;)

Axl could totally sing Baba O' Riley by The Who. I've actually imagined him doing that song a couple of times and funny enough, it's now part of Dizzy's piano solo.  :)
