Title: Mr. Brownstone
Post by: RoCoKiN on August 31, 2007, 08:12:38 AM
Mr. B is one of my favorite GN'R songs and it has a very unique intro, and from the album version it's almost hard to believe that it's a guitar.  I notice that in the shows I have seen, Slash always plays the intro differently than the way you here it on the album.  Do you think he fluked it or is it a very difficult sound to get live or does he just get board and decide to fuck with it?  But every single live intro of Brownstone you see it is almost never the same twice.

While on the topic of Mr. Brownstone; I'm not sure if this has been posted before or this guy could even be a forum member but this guy Chris Buck is a pretty wicked guitar player and here is a video of him playing Brownstone:

Wow that guy is good.  I thought he was being serious first about the "i went out and bought a marshall stack and gibson" then twigged.

As for the intro, they play it pretty similarly in some concerts.  But not exactly the same.  It may be that it was overdubbed in some way, it obviously involves the use of some kind of wah pedal (although slash uses them in other stuff).  Maybe they just preferred doing it that way.  There's a pre-appetite demo of them doing it in a fashion more similar to the way they do in concerts, if that means anything to you.

It's pretty simple wah guitar with some pick scraping nothing to fancy. I'm pretty sure they just like changing it up live!
