Could we start a thread detailing what we know about Tommy?

(It was his wrist incident that got me here)....

After the Replacements he had bands called "Bash & Pop" and "Perfect".

Kind of a funny quote from an interview with Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum from July 2006...

AVC: Tommy Stinson has been a member of Guns N? Roses for years, but he was hand-picked by Karl as his successor as Soul Asylum?s bassist because of your longtime friendship. Is he a permanent member of the band now?

DP: Tommy is currently out with Axl [Rose]. That story just kind of goes that Axl?s got dibs. [Laughs.] We don?t know what our future with Tommy is going to be, but we really had some great gigs with him and really enjoyed playing with him. I hope he comes back, but he?s been doing the Guns N? Roses things for eight years now. I think that?s a good gig for him. He makes a little more money playing with those guys. [Laughs.]

HA HA HA Anybody catch what Paul Westerberg said in the Mats Interview? "I think bands like Guns N Roses are good, but I think their (balance?) is totally unbelievable, I don't buy it for one second". If only he knew then what we know now.

The replacements were the best 'Fuck mainstream music' band's of the eighties, Hootenany was probably one of their best albums of that time period in my opinion. Pleased to Meet Me was really good, but a bit more commercial than what I think their fans were used to, most likely accidentally of course. I think I got their very last show floating around my 'ol database somewhere.

He has the most prolific legacy out of anyone in the current lineup in GNR, outside of Axl. And to me, he's as cool, if not sometimes MORE cooler, than Axl.

Every music writer and rock snob will pee themselves silly talking about the Replacements. I am definitely one of those said snobs. Outside of the original Guns N' Roses, they are/were one of the most diehard "real" rock bands from the 80s, period.

To all of you younger ones out there, listen to "Unsatisfied" and "Sixteen Blue" (which Paul wrote about Tommy!) and then you'll never have to listen to any modern day 'emo' stuff again. They're both on "Let it Be".

Then listen to "Gary's Got A Boner" (same album) and then start your own band.

You heard about the innovative music being used in Showtime's new series "Californication" here first. Now the show is going one step further: A soundtrack will be released -- but not on a round disc and not all at once.

If TV is the new radio, then this may be the new soundtrack. "Temptation: Music From the Showtime Series 'Californication' " is going to be released exclusively via iTunes by ABKCO Records in installments of eight-song "track packs." In essence, it will be an evolving digital soundtrack. The show's music supervisors Budd Carr and Nora Felder had initially approached ABKCO about using the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want" in the show. Then they and ABKCO vp Alisa Coleman asked themselves: Why wait until the end of a show's season to release a soundtrack? 'Tis the digital age, no?

Because ABKCO -- which is home to works by such acts as the Stones, Sam Cooke, the Animals and Marianne Faithfull -- had a strong existing relationship with iTunes, the marriage of show and record label made sense.

Coleman notes that offering the soundtrack while "Californication's" first season is on the air can make "passive viewers" into "active viewers." They watch, they buy. They buy, they watch.

The first pack of eight songs will be available Sept. 10 and is chock-full of cool tracks, including the first-time digital release of Paul Oakenfold's remix of the Doors' "L.A. Woman," "Mojo" by Peeping Tom (the new project from Mike Patton of Faith No More) as well as songs by Tommy Stinson, Mindy Smith, Josh Blake, the Country Gentlemen, Arco and My Morning Jacket. A new track pack of songs will be available after every four "Californication" episodes for $7.92. Showtime also will offer a video podcast on iTunes with behind-the-scenes interviews with the show's cast and producers.

In an interview in Blender about the time VGH was released.. Tommy said he hurt himself (broke something, cant remember what), half way through RIR3... He kept playing on tho  : ok:

I just saw episode 2 last night and the closing song was "Light of Day" and it fit really good.  It is a really cool song and a pretty wild show. It makes me happy that Tommy is in GNR because the guy is pure rock and roll....He seems kind of cocky but that is what makes him special too.

If his performance is anything, it isn't boring.

Tommy is the fucking man.  He has a lot of responsibility in GN'R.  We were told he basically runs the rehearsals, I'm sure he had a lot of input in there new songs, and he definitely has a strong stage presence.  Playing bass is very different the being lead guitar. 

Yeah, but no less important. Some people tend to forget this. It is an easy trap to fall into.
