Title: The Re-Recorded AFD
Post by: Mobenrad on August 21, 2007, 05:33:10 PM
I don't know if anyone remembers this, but since you all are Die-Hard GNR fans like myself you probably do.

Axl says he has recorded all of Appetite for Destruction excluding the last two songs, and if I remember correctly he replaced those with YCBM and Patience.

Anyone know what this thing is doing besides collecting dust? It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of being online here.

i think the songs they didn't record were you're crazy and anything goes.

i'd kill to hear it.   i'd love to see it released as a kind of bonus.

I would love to just hear it and see what, if anything, has been changed in each song.

Ehhh I wouldn't want to hear Buckethead ruin those solo's , because most of the AFD work was fairly simple stuff and BH would always over do it live. Now if we had a re-recorded AFD with Ron , that be the shit!

I agree with that, BH added too many notes to a solo- it sounded more mathmatical than emotional.

YES exactly, it started to sound like my computer booting up , Ron knows how to keep it original while still adding his own take on it.

That's something I hope they never release, no matter how good it is. It would be cool to hear from a fans point of view, so I wouldn't complain if it leaked, but a full on release would be ridiculous. There's no point trying to improve perfection.

most of the AFD solos are played by Robin anyways.

it would make a cool bonus tho to a boxed set or a cool extra disc to a cd/dvd release.

Yeah, like I said it's something I'd like to hear, and as a bonus disc or something would be ok, just not as an out and out individual release.

I think it was more of a warm up to the writing/recording of Chinese Democracy. To make an All Star line up sound like a tight band.

a lot of that stuff (original) was not simple... they made it sound simple.  and appetite was re-recorded before buckethead joined...

I also read that on a mag. n I remember that he also said it was a new recording with the new members, n in that way the new ones could know the level that they had to reach.

If they were smart they would have released it this year, July to be precisely, the 20th Aniversary... But guess they don?t wanna make tons of money by releasing it and have milions of Guns fans and music fans buying it.

I think it would be really cool if instead of releasing an album of Appetite done over they did like Anthrax did with "The Greater of Two Evils". They had all their fans vote online for what songs they wanted to hear redone for it since the line up had changed so much over the years (Ala GNR). I think it would be a lot cooler track listing and theres a lot fo songs on the Illusions I would like to hear this line up play.

It would be rubbing it in to the 'old' lineup though........don't you think?

........and the comparisons would be never ending..........he does it better, no he does!

This site would go off its dial!

why release an album with paul tobias and josh freese,

people would say, "so these guys is in GNR today"

I would be interesting to hear as a box set bonus only.  It would be stupid to release pre-Democracy.  the critics would rail on it regardless of its quality.

I think letting new members re record something that was already re recorded is too much lol. I'd like to hear it leaked or something , an official release would be kinda odd. Bonus disk or something maybe that be cool but ehh.

They could just do a live version of Appetite, they've now played every single song off it with the current line up, aside from "Anything Goes".  Which they could replace with "You Could Be Mine", and I don't imagine too many tears would be spilt.

Actually that would've been a bad ass idea for the anniversary this year , doing the whole record start to finish ( kinda like 'tallica did theirs ).

EDIT: Someone should gather up some bootlegs of the new band , and make a "re recorded AFD LIVE" collection where the gather the best version of the songs played , arrange them in the order and put it out!! I'd do it , but I don't have any where near enough mp3's to get the best!

i made one back in 2004 after all the good 2002 recordings surfaced.   but i'd like to see the same thing for 2006-2007 and i dont have the time to go thru bootlegs like i used to.

Yea I feel that I dont have the time or the data to do so , people should look into it. I like the 07 versions of the songs opposed to the 02. For one Axl's voice has gotten SO much better.

If it's true that YCBM and Patience are the other two new songs like someone mentioned that would ruin the album. Atleast keep the orginal 12 and add Reckless Life and Shadow of your Love to make 14 songs. ;) : ok:
