Title: GN'R Rock My Martial Arts Class!
Post by: Oh My Choking Soul on August 02, 2007, 08:34:21 AM
Funny, sometimes I wonder how much people care about GN'R these days. I still love them but... does anyone else?

I train in Jiu-Jitsu, Kick Boxing and Jeet Kune Do. Last night I was doing our Cardio Kick Boxing, 45 minutes of sparring to music. Well, at the end of the workout the last song was Sweet Child O' Mine and everone was completely exhausted... unless you've done this class you don't know how tired. We have a full class of Hard Core MMA guys, new people with no experience 20 - 25, and lots of rich trophy wives who can afford the $150 a month just to take this one cardio class 2 times a week. The whole workout everyone was silent and moaning in pain, when GN'R came on everone screamed "Turn it up!!!" and the whole class, like 60+ people started singing along. White, Black, Hispanic, Guys, Girls... everone. That's the thing about GN'R everone loves them... still after 14 years of silence. The best part was the trainer stoped the CD half way thru and said "Time to stretch!" everyone, dead tired shouted "Finish the song! We can do another 2 minutes!". I've never seen anything like it and I've been in this club for a while. At the end of the class our Black Belt trainer said "Looks like I need more GN'R on this CD.". Anyway afterwords I started telling all the peeps I knew in class about Chinese Democracy, they surprisingly all asked "Is it worth a shit?" To which I answered "I like it."

In other words, GNR can kill you with a heart attack. :hihi:

Great stuff man, try to put some new songs there, like Better or Chinese (I mean, live versions are good enough to pump it!). :)

That's the same reaction in a crowded front bar of country kids when SCOM was played.

Good thing we've got our 19 year insider there who accompanied us to the Adelaide concert....... : ok:

I thought about that... I was thinking CD and IRS. Better is cool but seems to me people either love it or hate it big time.

My wife calls me a music evangilist, I constantly give people mix tapes that I legally pull off of blogs and whatnot (Blitzen Trapper is my new favorite about to break out band, they just signed with Sub-pop and I know them personally).

I have spread the word on CD non-stop. People seem to all love the tracks of CD and IRS, which to me are much weaker than Better and The Blues (My favorite GN'R song of all time). But hey, what do I know? Most people react very badly to Pittman's bubbling in the middle of the Better solo and I haven't met a person yet who like the MLK - Cold Hand Luke rehash in Maddy.

Oh My Choking Soul has probably played madagascar to a bunch of people and not one of them liked the part where there are "cool hand luke" and MLK quotes.. in the middle of the song, if you've heard the song you know what i talk about

at least that's how i read it

Title: Re: GN'R Rock My Martial Arts Class!

See that's the problem with the leaks - people will listen to unfinished versions of songs and already a judgement forms in their mind, so when it comes time to listen to the album they already have to wade through alot of subconsious attitude to the song. It won't be heard with a fresh mind.

Those quotes may just be fillers for bars, riffs, melodies that haven't been written yet or stuff that is being kept under wraps.

People need to go by the vibe of the tour - because believe me I can't really rmember too much specifically about the new stuff - all I know is that it was quite awesome!

(and I want to hear it again!  :P)

Also I know times have changed.. but if anyone remembers axl sang on a parkinson charity/benefit concert and michael j fox were there and axl said something about that michael will be sampled in one of the songs and he's in the quotes from i think it is back to the future

No, nothing is certain until we all hear the final product when it is released.

I do know though, that there were certain points or sections in the new songs that were played at the concerts that were certainly not going to be in the final product. There were a number of bars played that could only have been fillers from a musical point of view.

And it was like Axl was saying to the band, "And here we go yada, yada, yada.........." ?;)

don't be that naive. that's like saying "who knows.. maybe the blues will be a blues hard rocker and better will be a soft ballad on the album because what we hear aint final products"

everyones loves SCOM, even they who doesn't like Rock music at all.
I've played GNR tribute in a pub called HUGOS. with all audience who comes only to watch Striptease and get drunk. I think  65 % of them doesn't know GNR at all. but when we played SCOM in the end, all The audience going nuts, They seems really enjoy it.

IRS is tremendous live. so is better.   try an osaka boot.  new songs sound soooo strong.

You can catch live concert snippets on You Tube. Sound quality is not very good and remember it's not the final version at all.

Oh, I've heard everything. I just won't distribute the leaks. I have too many friends that are musicians to do that kind of thing. I'll never hear the end of it.

I don't like You Tube either and there is some Internet loophole that allows concert snippets of unreleased material through.
If someone must listen to something to get some idea, this is probably the only place you should think about visiting.

Trying to obtain a boot is a completely different thing altogether.

At least Axl is smart enough to know what to do about this loophole. He's got it covered.......

Bad sound quality + not the final product in any way.
If people try to trade in boots of this stuff, when the final product is released, the boots will be deemed fake and irrelevant.

Post by: CheapJon on August 02, 2007, 01:36:41 PM
Stolat, those "not at all" and "not in any way" comment are plain stupid.. bad sound quality is correct though, the demos are old and not the final product that's right, but it sure gives you a good hint of what it will sound like.. in the live versions from 2007 they are playing what they recorded for the album.. off course it wont sound exactly the same on the album as it does live, but that's natural, it will be clearer and you'll hear new effects and shit..

I think it's pretty much final versions of how the album will sound when they play it live (and by this i mean for example better will pretty much sound the same it did in japan as it will when the album is released)

yeah just judging from the boots,  in comparison to those at the 2006 shows or even to the first  two japan shows, the performances of the new songs in osaka and boodokan are further standout. to perfection.

I feel the new songs are ripe and ready.

I agree. I don't play the crap out of the demos when I am entertaining with music b/c they are demos and I don't want to turn people off by having them think that the demo is the finished product (even though the newer demos are probably very close to what will be on CD). If I play them for friends, for example IRS, I always preface by explaining that the song is a studio demo from a few years back and explain how there were 2 other demos that are different. I just don't want people to assume that this is the finished product b/c if they are turned off by it and the song changes on CD, they won't know and won't bother giving it a chance.

Music is based on a formula - you can mix this and that to create different sound waves and effects. You can play around with different combinations of notes within chords. Music that often touches the soul will have alot to do with fifths - science calls this formula phi - this formula can be found in all the 'beautiful' things in nature - in flowers, in skeletal structures, you will find 5ths - a violin is based on this formula - and truly beatiful music will contain what is callled phi as well.

I respect Axl as a artist and musician that I will wait for the final CD once the theory and note combination have been finalised.
I want to get that out of the music, that's why I love music - for that.

The new songs are not ripe and ready yet - let Axl add the final magic touches.
How many drafts does a good writer do? You can make alot of different patterns when writing music.

With the leaked stuff it's not about the music for many people, it's more about look what I got! Leaks are NOT about the music.

You seem like a smart girl. I think it is unfair to say leaks are not about the music. Leaks are different things for different people... like Mike Piazza for example. Seriously though, a fair statement may be "Leaks are without any considerate of the artist." but to say they have no musical relovence is unfair. My "leak" of The Blues means the world to me, IT IS MUSIC to me. Selfish as it may be, it has gotten me thru and is getting me thru some tough times.

Don't take it as a lecture.

Really, Axl has put forward the view that he is not impressed by the leaks and all the prejudgement. You need to respect that. And you need to start trusting his decisions.

You want to be blown away by some really mindblowing music..........you need to wait for it.

As I said, between now and the time that a release date is announced, you need to show your full support for the band and give the talk about the unreleased material a rest. Alot of what you are specifically saying about the songs will be totally irrelevant when the final product comes out.

Seriously, we all know its a work in progress. The problem is with people who judge it like it's final (I know a lot of people who do that) or when the radios starts to play the leaks. Now that's harmful.

I don't think so and you don't know if he does that. All the leaks were old recordings, from what I heard, and it didn't really reflect what is been playing live. In fact, there are some small stuff they started playing after the demo leaked, like the extended The Blues Richard solo.

Even if he had to write again to make it sounding fresh, Axl still joked and seemed relaxed.

And then, in great indignation you have trouble with my little 'lecture' about leaks, when all I'm doing is showing you a more effective way to support the band.

No I was making a general statement which ppbebe took very personally. The posts which started this conversation are 2 pages back.

yeah just judging from the boots,? in comparison to those at the 2006 shows or even to the first? two japan shows, the performances of the new songs in osaka and boodokan are further standout. to perfection.

I feel the new songs are ripe and ready.

^ here, this is what I said - not a lecture - just some facts about music, for anyone who is interested. PHI!

the lecture belongs in the niceboy section.

Besides, you have bothered to trade in music and boots of unreleased material.

Why bother, I don't think it is beacause you are interested in the development of music. As far as you are concerned it ripe and ready.  ::)

Just clips of unreleased material from the live show you say - geez the sound quality would be crap......
Yesterday, before you edited your post you did say that your boots were different........
And then, in great indignation you have trouble with my little 'lecture' about leaks, when all I'm doing is showing you a more effective way to support the band.

1 I trade what? with who?? what the hell are you talking about?
I am never a trader. I don't even know what the trade is.

2. I deleted the bit I thought belonged in the jungle.
I said to the effect that I was seeing many quibbles with other things lately that I need no more.

You see things that  aren't there.

crap is your delusion. It's not my fault that you haven't heard the osaka boot and budoHkan one.
read the posts and thread again. Your argument has nothing to do with my posts  or This topic.

If you have anything against me use pms instead so that threads won't be ruined further. Not that I
read your pms tho.

Ok, to get back into the spirit of this topic - ie: GN'R Rockin A Martial Arts class -

it is agreed that some some opponents just aren't worthy enough to be taken on.  ::)
