Robbie Williams (born Robert Peter Williams on February 13, 1974) is a Grammy-nominated and fifteen time[1] BRIT Award-winning English singer/songwriter. He is also one of the few pop acts to have been nominated for the Mercury Prize.[2] Williams' career began as a member of the pop band Take That in 1990, which he left in 1995 to begin his solo career, the band having sold more than 25 million records. [3] Since then, Williams has sold more albums in the United Kingdom than any other British solo artist in history, [4] and has sold 53 million albums worldwide.[1] Williams has so far sold 70 million records (including singles) over the course of his career.[5] Williams made it to The Guinness Book of World Records when 1.6 million tickets were sold in a single day shortly after he announced his World Tour in 2006.[6] He also has the distinction of having more number one albums than any other male, barring Elvis Presley. He appears in the list of the all-time Top 100 best albums in the United Kingdom six times, more than any other person or group and has been the recipient of many awards ? including more BRIT and ECHO Awards than any other artist in history[7] the Brit Awards 2005 [8]. He is currently the most successful male artist in the world, for the period 1998-2007, according to the United World Chart, and the third artist overall behind Madonna and Britney Spears.[9] Wealth Williams is currently worth an estimated ?100 million (approximately $197 million). In 2006 the Sunday Times Rich List claimed he was worth over ?90 million.[103] Since then Williams' company 'In Good Company' has raked in a further ?17.2 million for the year ending March 2006. This figure does not include profits from Williams' record breaking Close Encounters Tour where he sold over 3.5 million tickets and grossed over $340m, or his latest album Rudebox which shifted 3 million units in its first three months of release. According to HELLO Magazine's 2006 Rich list, he earned ?30m ($59m) in 2006, making him the third highest earning act, behind Elton John and The Rolling Stones. In his five years as a member of Take That, Williams earned an estimated ?5m. Before signing his record breaking ?80m ($158m) contract with EMI in 2002, Williams was worth an estimated ?35m ($69m). Williams is a lifelong supporter of Port Vale F.C., based in his home town of Stoke-on-Trent. In February 2006 he bought ?240,000 worth of shares in the club.[104] [edit] Charity Robbie Williams created a charity with the aid of Comic Relief that is set up in his home town entitled Give It Sum, with its goal being to "improve local conditions and strengthen community life by giving money to those who are disadvantaged."[105][97] Williams, with the help of friend Jonathan Wilkes, recently organised a charity football match in an attempt to raise funds in Africa. This match was played in May 2006 at Old Trafford, Manchester. The participants were a mixture of celebrities and professional football players. [edit] Awards Main article: List of Robbie Williams' Awards Williams has won a large amount of awards over the years, including more BRIT Awards than any other artist in music history (fifteen), as well as more ECHO Awards than any other artist ever (six awards in a row). Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Post by: 25 on July 30, 2007, 10:48:15 AM So much for Paramount giving Trek a rest.
Given how badly they screwed up the ST:TNG movies, I have no faith that they'll do a good job on this one. Especially as they're so desperate for ideas that they're making a prequel. Better start gathering lumber folks, we're going to need an awfully big coffin for this franchise. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Post by: Robman? on July 30, 2007, 10:57:13 AM I thought Matt Damon was supposed to be in it. I reckon Robbie Williams will be a shit actor, just like his singing.

I feel sorry for whoever lands the role of Kirk. What do you do?! Do you ape Shatner relentlessly and thereby turn the movie into a comedy of Ishtaresque levels of humiliation, or tone it down and bore the living crap out of the audience with your portrayal of Generic Spaceship Captain #438572? Either way, you'll be torn limb-from-limb by rabid geeks the world over. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. No Star Trek. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Post by: stolat on July 30, 2007, 11:51:02 AM A 1960s style style Star Trek, like the original TV series could work. Pure action and Matt has done the Bourne films.
High Octane Star Trek! How Kirk became Captain! Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Pure action and Matt has done the Bourne films. High Octane Star Trek! How Kirk became Captain! You know what would be better? Doing what Star Trek has always done, make new characters with new stories. You could still have Matt Damon, you could even call him Kirk - shit, there should be enough Shatner-seed in space to have an entire ship's complement of Kirks. Then you come up with original ideas and make them into films! I know, it's a radical approach that's only been tried five times in the history of the franchise and only succeeded four times but I think that with enough money and enough big-name actors and enough good writers and producers Paramount could make at least ONE Star Trek movie which isn't a rehash of the tv shows. I have faith in them. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Nah, you'd need a good character actor to do William Shatner justice. So why Matt Damon? :P He's not exactly the world's leading character actor. Leonard Nimoy is in this movie, but no Shatner. The injustice! Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Damon would be able to highlight some quirky aspects about Kirk's character. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Damon would be able to highlight some quirky aspects about Kirk's character. Damon isn't ham enough to be a comic-book-Kirk. He has too much taste and/or talent. Ben Affleck, on the other hand, is almost 2D anyway, he'd be perfect for Stolat's Pen-And-Ink Star Trek Project. I really don't think they'll get Damon for this movie. They seem to be aiming much lower with the other cast members. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Shame about the casting (and vision) then. It's Paramount, they think that just rolling out the Star Trek name again will give them all the credibility they need (given their record so far, they don't have any credibility in the bank to begin with so I'm not sure why they aren't trying harder). There are scores of people with experience in handling this franchise yet the studio puts it in the hands of JJ Abrams, god knows why. And the guy they cast as Spock is, as far as my research can discern, "some tv actor." So as far as "vision" goes they seem to be running on empty. Title: Re: Am I a total geek? If ever a series needed a total reboot its Star Trek - i wonder how many mins into the film it will be before we have time travelling, borg technology and problems solved entirely by nonsensical technical terms... Title: Re: Am I a total geek? I'm all excited about the new Star Trek movie. Post by: 25 on August 01, 2007, 07:55:22 PM If ever a series needed a total reboot its Star Trek Yeah, because the general public is just calling out for The Further Adventures Of Characters We Don't Care About. It's a cult/geek franchise which survives on the bloated wallets of the fans they already have, who flock to every new iteration. If the public weren't interested in the characters the first time around why would they now flock to the franchise to see Star Trek's Animal House: Lil' Spock?! I'll bet my ass that this reboot is a one-off, completely failing to revive the franchise and encouraging Paramount to "retire" it yet again. Until the next executive suite cull, that is.
