Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: COMAMOTIVE on July 16, 2007, 09:11:13 PM That was a great article, and one that brought back a lot of memories for me.
Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: chineseblues on July 16, 2007, 10:05:30 PM That was a great fucking read. I agree 100% that the Illusion albums are among the greatest ever released. For me, every time I listen to those cd's I discover something new even though I've been listening to these albums for over 12 years. It's a shame though that a lot of people think they are over produced or pompous or whatever.

This wraps up my feelings about Chinese Democracy. It amazes me how many people on this forum are caught up in sales figures for the eventual release. All I want is, as Anthony Kuzminski puts it, an emotional roller coaster. I hope the album does well for the band's sake, but how many copies it sells bares little on how it will reflect on my enjoyment of the material. Great article about the Illusion Discs. It's ironic a bit that the band did release simultaneous albums. The weight of the two discs seemed to have catapulted the band on a trajectory that, in the end, was too big to keep everyone together. At the same time, because they were so ambitious and the tracks were numerous, we have 30 songs to listen to that we might not otherwise have had they decided to just release one album. Good read. Cheers, Andrew Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: gnr157 on July 16, 2007, 10:53:49 PM Do record stores still open at midnight for new releases? or has the internet spoiled that?
Also I hope CD does well on the pure basis that it keeps the label happy and creates less strife for the band, so that their focus can and will always remain on music. I mean if CD was a total flop (which I doubt) that could potential cause some problems..... Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: saint seiya on July 16, 2007, 11:02:02 PM locomotive is a masterpiece
Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: Chief on July 16, 2007, 11:20:55 PM Yeah sometimes... i read that the white stripes did it here and had a concert too afterward. this was a few weeks ago...

Most of the guys were talking about these albums coming out and the one local music store ( There were no Best Buys around at that time) had this big sign posting " 2 new Guns N Roses albums out....." with the day
A bunch of us went , bought and brought back and I listened to those fucking things over, and over, and over and over The good ole days Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: BillBailey on July 16, 2007, 11:44:25 PM locomotive is a masterpiece Agreed. Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: Juanjay on July 17, 2007, 03:11:54 AM Actually Locomotive has ALWAYS been my fave GNR song, from the simple drum beat to open it up to the riff making you feel like you're being hit by a train, to the leads between all the verses and the lyrics.... my god those lyrics. I didn't fully understand them until I was about 15 or so but man they're great.
Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: Ali on July 17, 2007, 01:19:16 PM Agreed, "Locomotive" is a true masterpiece. Beautiful piece of music, spanning the emotional globe, from anger to playfulness to sadness. Beautiful lyrics and melodies and music.

The only difference with this and CD is that I hope we have yet to hear the best. Knowing Axl's attitude about bootlegs (there were so many for UYI I II), particularly with the long wait for CD, I think its safe to say the best is yet to come and we don't know what it is yet. Hopefully soon they'll be 30 songs released too, and hopefully I'll have CD 1 and 2, like I have UYI 1 and 2. Those 2 have been in the cd player non-stop for 6 months now.

Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: AxlsSweetChild on July 20, 2007, 11:17:16 PM im young and was actually born two weeks before the illusion albums were released. i first heard about the record at school in 8th grade, when my buddy, whom each of us were discovering rock n' roll at the time said. "dude, you ever hear that song civil war by guns n' roses?" i said that i only knew the hits then he told me to either buy the album or download it. so i downloaded civil war, and it just blew me the fuck away. i loved everything about the song and then decided to buy the entire illusions album on itunes. greatest work of art in the history of music imo. my friend hates gnr now though, so we get into constant arguements
Title: Re: Remembering UYI Post by: Chief on July 20, 2007, 11:32:32 PM Just curious, did you not want to have the artwork / lyrics and CD that comes with buying it at a store?
