Title: Can't get it out of my head....
Post by: liesin on July 15, 2007, 03:43:42 AM
Funny how a lot of the guitarparts are extreamly close to November Rain.
i.e 1.41 in to the song....
Anyone else that noticed it?

true not for long,  Slash just puts it in here and there, and when you start to recognize it it ends, like a fucking teaser. Comes up a lot in the song

Yea Slash does have a few good moments on this tune.

listen to Cant Get it Out Of My Head at 1:41

and then listen to November Rain at 3:39

But yea, this is the one song on Libertad I hated at first that grew on me.  I quite like it, its not a bad tune at all.

I love the song! but it hasn't struck me that it's similar to NR in any way.

The song in it self isn't similar however some guitarpart are extreamly close to NR.

At first this song was dogged, and I skipped it a lot, but I have also begun to like it a lot.  I think Weiland sings great, but Slash is soloing throughout the whole song pretty much. Which I like.

Haha, I remember when i first heard they were doing a cover of a song called Can't Get It Out Of My Head i was like oh shit.... :nervous: coz i'd never heard of the ELO song.  Then I heard it wasn't Kylie's song and I breathed a sigh of relief, until I heard the ELO song and I was even more scared. This song is VR covering ELO badly copying John Lennon's solo career.

I like this version of the tune, although its odd and completely out of place in the context of the album. I always laugh when people say Messages wouldn't fit on the album, like this song does!

As for the NR comparison, guitarists often have certain favourite licks they can use while soloing/improvising - kinda like the second half of the SCOM solo and Slither, but the licks sound different in the context of the songs.

Just listened to the ELO version, a lot of Slash's licks are just emulating the synth parts in the original song, including the part that sounds like November Rain (at 0:39 in original ELO version). Weird coincidence that it sounds like NR, unless Slash used this song as influence for NR, which I doubt. Or maybe that's why Brendan O'Brien suggested it, as he seen the similarities and so thought it would be a good song for Slash.

This one grew on me alot more than I ever expected it to. First time listening to the album I kept thinking it was too "wussy" for lack of a better word. Now I really dig it. The leads are some of Slash's best playing on the album and the chorous is catchy. Love the drums behind the solo too.

ELO badly copying John Lennon's solo career.

WTF? ELO might have been influenced by the Beatles, but they weren't coping Lennon's career. They put out more music than Lennon in the same period, and was one of the better bands of the 70s for what they did.
