It's actually quite a big rumor amongst army folks and you even have some guys that swear to god they were in his unit. It's hilarious.

So Axl would not have been drafted, but would have had to enroll. You can enroll at 18, that puts it at 1980. I don't know what he was doing in 1980, but I doubt it was military service. He was already in Hollywood Rose in 1983. So there are 3 years unaccounted for, but one presumes he was learning to play music and writing songs. And getting high and partying.....
