Thought Id make a thread about the bonus tracks, b-sides etc etc.

From the bonus tracks I've heard (Messages and $ Laugh) Im kinda glad they didnt make the album.

The reason is because they are so fucking cool.

I love the Libertad album, its great. All the songs flow nice and its just a great listen with nice production, nice melodies, riffs, solos and beats. Basically, its solid. However, had tracks like Messages and $ Laugh been included, they would have made other songs feel like filler. Basically what im saying is Libertad is fucking great but the bonus tracks are even better. It would be cool to have an album with songs of this seemingly higher quality material. Especially since Slash is in full swing on Messages.

So yeah... umm... discuss.

the b-sides were better they should have made the album n the shit songs off libertad made into b-sides

Yeah.
I think that B-sides / bonus tracks should be great songs that are cool extras that arent really needed on an album. Not songs that are better than whats already on an album.

Although im more than happy to have libertad as an album :)

I just hope this is a glimps of whats to come in the future. :)

Agreed. Who puts there best song as a b-side. Maybe the fan response will cause a reprint

Been listening to messages since last night and I have listened to gas and a dollar laugh a few times. I think libertad is a great album. If those two songs replaced For a Brother and SBQM it would be a classic. I think those two songs (especially messages) would have made this their benchmark. What they would be aiming to do as well as or out-do on all future records.

I am seriously pissed off.

Scott's vocals are the greatest I've heard from him ever and Slash's guitar finally has the GNR flavor.

agreed, that is the Slash we all knew from his GnR days.     Its a shame he doesn't show us that guy more often and I have no idea why they didn't put the song on the album.

But see this is why everyone thinks I rag on VR.  Its beacuse I know they have the talent to put out some amazing stuff, but both Libertad and Contraband fall short of those expectations.   This is the kind of song I expected from the Slash/Scott Weiland pairing when I first heard about Scott joining VR.

Wait about 6-12 months and they'll re-issue Libertad with "Messages", "Gas & A Dollar Laugh", and maybe 1 or 2 more "unreleased" songs in an effort to sell even more copies. It kinda pisses me off when bands do that.

I keep in regular contact with a local radio station program director, and i'm going to do the best i can to convince him to put "Messages" on the air- atleast 1 time.

I don't think the issue with "Messages" making the album has to do with quality so much as it has to do with having too many ballads on the album. I think it would be a mistake to take off a rocker and replace it with this song.

Every band re-releases their CDs 6 months down the line anymore. It kind of sucks, to be honest.

"Dollar Laugh" is the Japanese bonus track - I might just import it instead of buying the domestic version.

Please dont ask for links to the songs in this discussion... its annoying trying to discuss something followed by a million people obviously hinting for a link. just PM someone about it who appears online who has clearly heard the track. If they can help you out, they will.

They could have just added it as an extra song, though, a "bonus" track at the end of the album or whatever.  Or they could've done away with Can't Get It Out Of My Head.  No reason to include a decent cover song over one of your originals that's much better

I classed it as a B-side because its a hidden track... its not listen on the track listing. So its kinda a like a b-side... but anyway... with it been a bonus extra track it still fits within my bonus / b-side list. so......... :)

i bought messages off itunes and its beautiful...but WHERE did you guys get Gas and a Dollar Laugh???

Anyone have any insight on this?  Is this something exclusive to Target?  Looks like Libertad + one extra track (Re-Evolution), along with DDTD of course, and a DVD.  Is it the same DVD BestBuy offers with the disc for $14.99?  If so, Target's pretty much charging $5 more for one song?  Can anyone make sense of this?  Anyone heard of Re-Evolution?

I think "Re-Evolution" is a the enhanced CD content.  The $15 version comes with a DVD.

He doesnt even know who Velvet Revolver are and I caught him singing that song all night long as he absolutely loved it.

I didnt have the heart to tell him that the band didnt put the song on the record.

Messages united GNR and VR fans for a brief moment and it would've earned them tons of new respect and fans but they fucked it up and didnt put it on there cause their "PRODUCER" who isnt even in the fuckin band wanted a stupid ass cover song.

Yeah, and you could also throw on FTP acoustic and maybe a live version of a couple songs.

I've seen the Fantastic Four soundtrack for like $3 at a couple of used CD stores.

You can buy the bonus CD from Contraband (with the Nirvana, Aerosmith, and Cheap Trick Cover) on ebay for like $4.

I think you can find "Bodies" Zune or Rhapsody.  But I can't figure out how to download it.  Anyone confirm that you can buy it off there?
