Title: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: Bruno Poeys on June 29, 2007, 03:39:27 PM LIST:
Ron Thal ? 28nps ? Hands (legato and tapping) Rusty Cooley ? 24.7nps ? Under The Influence (legato and sweeping) Michael Angelo Batio - 23.3 nps ? No Boundaries (sweeping and tapping) Jeff Hanneman ? 23.2 ? Angel of Death (legato) Jason Becker - 22.17 - Paganini's 5th Caprice (alternate picking) Steve Vai - 21.6 - The Riddle (legato and tapping) Paul Gilbert ? 20.5nps - Snakebite Shawn Lane ? 20.4 ? Trademark lick (alternate picked with one economy picked string change) George Lynch ? 19.8 - Wicked Sensations John Petrucci - 19.46 - Curve (sweeping and with legato turnarounds) Frank Gambale - 19.3nps - 6.8 Shaker (economy picked) Micheal Amott - 19.0ps - Nemesis Kai Hansen - 18nps (rebellion in dreamland) - (alternate picked) Chris Impellitteri ? 17.8 ? Race Into the Light (alternate picked - although this could be lower or higher depending on transcription used.) Yngwie - 17.3 ? Blitzkrieg (alternate picked) James Root (yes, from slipknot) - 16.6nps - Welcome (alternate picked) Allan Holdsworth - 16.25 on Fred (Tony Williams Lifetime Album) Tony Macalpine ? 15nps ? Hundreds of Thousands (alternate picked) Erich Johnson - 15nps - Ah Via Musicom (alternate picked) John Petrucci ? 14nps ? Various songs (alternate picked) Al DiMeola - 14nps ? Mediterranean Sundance (alternate picked) Buckethead - 16nps on a lesson vid. Alt picking - and 17.8 nps on a tapping thing on jump man. Thasall i can find. His live tapping stuff is just so no-one's tabbed it! Cooley, 24.7, on under the influence. - legato and sweeping licks. The Picking lick is around 16nps, according to someone who?s isolated it. Ron Thal clocks in at an incredible 28 nps in the solo of the song Hands and 24nps in another song called Vomit ? Although MOST of the Hands solo is around 16nps, live versions I?ve seen are far faster. Jeff Hanneman NOT kerry king - Jeff clocks in at 23.2 nps during the solo of Angel of Death - simple legato licks in E minor, not chromatics. Same man also responsible for the 22nps solo in dittohead. Michael Angelo sweeps a few arpeggios in No Boundaries (2:01-2:05) using septuplets at 200, which is 23.3 nps Steve Vai - 21.6 - the riddle Yngwie on blitzkreig (32nds at 140) - 17.3 alt picked. Gilbert on "snakebite" - sextuplets at 205, we have ourselves 20.5nps! John Petrucci, a la dream theatre, is a superconsistent 14nps guy. I have my doubts that the lick previously quoted here was accurately tabbed, but he deserves a mention for being extremely consistent and even. (and fast, obviously) But it seems he can sweep! - On the song "Curve" at 2:19 he plays a weird sweeping lick that is almost straight 32nds at 146bpm, which is 19.46nps! Chris Impellitteri was wrongly quoted at 20.1 nps during the solo of Race into the Light ? turns out it was 13.6. (whoever passed me that info better apologise?) Frank Gambale has hit 19.3 nps on 6.8 Shaker. Shawn Lane has definitely alternate picked his trademark diminished string skips at 19.5nps ? also he preforms a 6 and a 9 in 0.735s in the video below, which is 20.4nps Check out this video on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOZO...ane%20technique and this transcription - http://rapidshare.de/files/21593487/Shawn_Lane.ptb.html Al DiMeola's NPS on Mediterranean Sundance on the Friday Night In San Francisco album ? Smoothly flies along at a superclean 14nps. Evil_Empire24-7 submitted this un- George Lynch - Wicked Sensations 19.8 NPS from total guitar magazine 2001. (No info on technique used, or bar, etc) Sheck006 - tony macalpine plays 8th note triplets at 300bpm on hundreds of thousands. (15nps - He does indeed, alternate picked) Stratwizard Micheal Amott from Arch Enemy plays alternate picked lick using sextuplets at 190 on Nemesis. (19nps) Ok guys, I have a new one from John 5 for you: In Perineum, the song with Steve Vai, John 5 hits a nice 18.4 nps in a legato lick, at the end of Vai's 3-string sweeps. He hits 24 consecutive clean notes. The song is at 138 bpm, so correct me if I'm wrong, but 32nds @ 138 bpm = 18.4 nps http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366820 Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: Genesis on July 02, 2007, 01:40:53 PM I don't care what anyone says, Shawn Lane is the fastest of the lot. He was probably sleeping when he did that 20.4 nps thing.
Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: estebanf on July 02, 2007, 02:42:11 PM I wonder in what GNR song/solo Bumblefoot does the most number of notes per second... November Rain outro? Nightrain? You Could Be Mine? IRS?
I think its IRS, but I am an absolute ignorant in this subject damn, how I want Bumblefoot to play Rhiad    Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: don_vercetti on July 02, 2007, 04:25:29 PM The nightrain solo is pretty rapid when he plays it.

Check that sample out, it contains the Bumblefoot guitar solo at the end of IRS @ Rock Am Ring... that is fast :peace: Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: Voodoochild on July 02, 2007, 04:55:49 PM damn, how I want Bumblefoot to play Rhiad    Damn man, you had to remember me how bad I want this song to be played again, huh? :'(Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: estebanf on July 02, 2007, 04:59:22 PM damn, how I want Bumblefoot to play Rhiad    Damn man, you had to remember me how bad I want this song to be played again, huh? :'(I also love that song very much. I am absolutely concious about the fact that the song is KILLER, but it was just ruined in the past by Axl's voice. Now Axl has again his rasp-classic voice, and, instrumentally, the song is just amazing. The instrumental part with that fantastic guitar fusion in the middle of the song is one of the best music fragments of all the new songs (imo) Rhiad at London 2002 was ... wow Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: Voodoochild on July 02, 2007, 05:07:11 PM Indeed man, indeed...
I just wonder what Ron would add to Rhiad.. He has been adding a lot of cool details in the new songs, I guess he would put a KILLER solo in that (hopefully without the whammy fx).. Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: stolat on July 02, 2007, 10:04:24 PM Now boys, have IRS and Rhiad been officially released yet?

Not sure, though. Nothing compared with hands, vomit or mine I'll say, but still pretty damn fast.Check that sample out, it contains the Bumblefoot guitar solo at the end of IRS @ Rock Am Ring... that is fast :peace: I think he will play faster in some of the new songs, although, I don't think Ron ever used his "full-speed" mode in Gn'R. ;D This is fast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntbFFGxrXiQ - check his solo (at around 3:30 or 3:40). Indeed man, indeed... I just wonder what Ron would add to Rhiad.. He has been adding a lot of cool details in the new songs, I guess he would put a KILLER solo in that (hopefully without the whammy fx).. I would like to hear that as well. I remember an interview from Ron back in 2006... he said that he learned to play Rhiad, The Blues, I.R.S., Better, Madagascar, Chinese Democracy and TWAT. So, the song is still in Axl's plans I hope. :hihi: I don't care what anyone says, Shawn Lane is the fastest of the lot. He was probably sleeping when he did that 20.4 nps thing. I also agree with ya, lol. But bbf used tapping/legato on hands, and with those techniques fast guitarists can it over 20-25 nps. Talking about legato and/or tapping, I still think Ron might be the fastest around. Lane used tapping, yes, but it was rare... sadly. :-\ Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: estebanf on July 05, 2007, 01:59:40 AM Quote I think it's his faster solo on Gn'R. Now look at this. I love how Robin plays the SCOM solo, but how about letting Ron do it some times? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fkfVZUMZ6c&mode=related&search= Title: Re: Fastest Guitarists (ultimate-guitar.com) Post by: Bruno Poeys on July 05, 2007, 03:57:46 AM Quote I think it's his faster solo on Gn'R. I also love how Robin plays it, but... I wish Ron would add just crazy speed at some parts and I always wanted Slash or Robin to do that, but they can't play that fast (though, Robin can shred). It's not that I'd like to hear shredding on every old Gn'R song, but this solo just says "PLEASE SHRED, YOU FUCKING SLOW ASS". |
