For you english/european/politically minded people out there

So he resigned as leader of the "Labour" party the other day, and Gordon Brown will be PM as well soon...

hopefully Gordon will have us secede from the United States and start embracing our european brothers a bit more...

discuss.

Judging from the comments that were made about Blair from the opposing political party, they have a lot more class than our political system here in the US.

Blair resigned but will not disappear. He has been named special envoy to the Middle East. Kind of ironic isn't it, considering  that his personal popularity plunged over support for the Iraq war and forced his eventual departure.

I think people overestimate the extent to which Blair was the bitch (crude...but effective) in the Bush-Blair relationship.  Blair seems to be, essentially, a foreign policy liberal, and to believe in notions like collective security action.  I think he had true, ideologically driven reasons for taking Britain into Iraq, that had nothing to do with being subservient to the US or Bush.  It may have been a bad choice...but he wasn't used they way so many seem to frame it.  If anything, he was an equal counterpart, and certainly a far more eloquent one, in believing in and selling this war.
