Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: Rhino on June 13, 2007, 12:46:38 PM sounds like a great show. Dont get me wrong I would go see GNR play the same songs every night if i could they are my favorite band, but just to put things in perspective i saw pearl jam last summer at the gorge and they played 52 different songs in 2 nights. I love the fact that they can pull out any song at any time ....you never know what your gonna get. GnR was always so unpredictible thats why they became my favorite band but since 2002 you pretty much know exactally what to expect from the start time right down to the setlist and the order...thats not really gnr...i miss that part about them. That being said I cant wait till they hit NA again...id rock out to that same ol set list any night.

That being said I cant wait till they hit NA again...id rock out to that same ol set list any night. There are two schools of thought on playing variable vs. consistent setlists. One is the excitement and unpredictability of playing a variable setlist. The other is that by picking a fairly consistent setlist, the band can get into a groove with the songs and deliver a more consistent performance from night to night. There are pros and cons to both. I'll leave it up to the professionals, GN'R, to decide what is best. Ali Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: estebanf on June 13, 2007, 01:30:51 PM Hmm...now to see if anyone recorded audio. Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: stolat on June 14, 2007, 04:19:37 AM Ok, sorry I haven't got back here about the concert sooner - been a bit hectic with the boys in town. Anyway, it fucking R O C K E D!!!!!!
Rose Tattoo got us all in the mood for what was to follow. Angry staked his presence on stage with one of the meanest Rock and Roll poses that I have ever seen. Sebastian and Axl took up a spot with security at the front of the floor area to videotape the show. Then came beautiful Bach who cracked us up with his outrageousness! His hair looked absolutely beautiful as did his butt in those leather pants......(sorry, I digress, I had binoculars......)? ;) There was a bit of a wait as the roadies set up the stage, more and more people started filling the floor area - they were packed in like sardines, and several people were being pulled out there. There were a few chants going......... ........and at about 11? we heard those chords and the crowd just errupted!!! he stood there on stage like the icon he is and we showed the man our full respect! Axl was in a great mood and got quite chatty as the concert went on. He explained that the auditiorium in Perth was like being in a Black Hole, and it was hard to breathe - so he was loving it being able to get into the music properly. When he played November Rain, he was having a ball on the piano - some improvisation going on and, when he ran his fingers over the keys - it literally sent shivers down my spine... nice moment Axl! His dancing throughout the concert just got better and better - who say white men can't dance?!!? ;) Me and my binoculars were right there....... There was also a funny moment when Axl and Sebastian thought they were back in 1992.... The band owns the new stuff...... Axl was great at acknowledging the crowd who were all singing and getting into it .... and he led them on an Aussie Aussie Aussie Oy OY OY cheer at the end. It was warm, it was fun, quite hilarious in parts!! Thanks for the afterglow........ PS. Other concert night incidents: I got frisked by a security guard with a metal dectector because he wanted to hear the metal rod in my leg beep! And I received an "unofffical' parking ticket in that it was left on my car - but it said "just a caution, no need to pay!" On the drive home, people were hanging out of cars at the traffic lights doing 'metal' fingers and headbanging!!? Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: gandra on June 14, 2007, 04:42:28 AM thamk you for review
Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: gnrfresh on June 14, 2007, 04:46:26 AM I just flew back home (to Melbourne) and I gotta say last night was the best night ever!
It was the first time I have seen GnR live and I was totally blown away. Axl's voice was amazing and he was in one of the best moods I have ever seen him in at a show. It was amazing to see how hard the New band rocked when playing the new songs. The crowd reacted really well to Better and there was a huge cheer after Madagascar but the response was luke warm to IRS, The Blues and Chinese Democracy but then again its hard to rate a song after one listen so i guess that reaction is to be expected. I will do a more detailed review later and I hope to include some pics incuding a pic with Frank who was a totaly awesome dude! I cant wait for the next two Melbourne shows Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: kollemann on June 14, 2007, 04:57:49 AM Great setlist. : ok:

The 'lukewarm' respose was probably because everyone was quite blown away by the songs! First listen ever! There was sort of like a pause at the end and before the crowd could react another song started. We were a tad mesmerized..........Axl and the band wove quite a spell...... Could you tell if there was an Axl scream along with Robin's intro riff in Chinese Democracy like the demo? I'm asking because, from what I saw on Mexico youtube videos, The Blues now has Richard's solo starting already on "what this means to me..." part, just like the demo... Again, thanks! :) Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: stolat on June 14, 2007, 05:27:27 AM Thanks for the reviews, guys! Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: gnrfresh on June 14, 2007, 05:44:54 PM Setlist:
WTTJ Its so easy Mr Brownstone Live and Let Die Fink Solo SCOM Better KOHD YCBM Dizzy Solo + Blues Band Intro Out to get me November Rain IRS BBF Solo (dont Cry) My Michelle with bach Liquor + Whores with Bubbles from The Trailer Park Boys? Patience Night Train Encore: Chinese Democracy with full intro from latest leak. Sounded Awesome Madagascar Paradise City I didn't bother with Rose Tattoo as I thought id see them at one of the Melbourne shows. Sebastian Bach was a riot and was on stage till about 10:15. He was marking out that a dude had a 'youth gone wild' tatt like he does. Gnr hit the stage at 11 so it was a 45 minute or so wait between which didn't seem that long when you consider the lines to take a piss were huge. The intro music is cool and the way Robin Fink bounces the intro to Jungle is a great innovation. The crowd went nuts when Axl went into WTTJ and man his voice was killer. With all due respect to the fine people of Adelaide it really was bogan central and they were way into the songs off AFD so they were in for a treat with an appetite heavy set list. The new band worked really well together and the crowd didn't seem to miss the original members at all once they were on stage which I guess shows that Axl has assembled the right line up. I really like the slowed down 'Knockin On Heavens Door' and its good that unlike the early 2001 shows he has added the sing-a-long component to it. Also Live and Let Die showed Axl's scream hasn't gone away. There were a few solo's but the crowd didn't seem to get too restless. It was great that enough of the crowd caught on that Bumblefoot was playing 'Dont Cry' and sang along. The new songs really are great and were the highlights of the night for me. I have always thought 'Better' was hit and miss live but it was hit in Adelaide. 'IRS' is a great rocker. Since 'The Blues' leaked I have really found a new appreciation for it and its close to my fave of all the new songs so it sent chills to hear it live. The crowd really loved November Rain and I smiled when remembering I always thought that song was Axl's biggest pussy magnet and then looked around at a heap of chicks gazing at the stage with loving eyes lol I didn't really know Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys but he looked hilarious and 'Liquor and Whores' is a funny song. It was great to see Axl enjoying himself while singing back up vocals on it. Axl's mood throughout the night really made the night as he really seemed to be enjoying himself. He was a little hard to hear when talking. I do know that he was making a comment about how people claim this is nothing more than a 'glorified cover band' but I couldn't make it out so if anyone could please let me know what was said exactly. I don't think Axl's power-rock whistle gets enough credit and neither does 'Patience' which had the crowd singing along to every word. 'Nightrain' is a song that I have heard so many times that it sometimes gets skipped when playing AFD but Axl screamed appreciation right back into me. I was kinda bummed at this point as I knew the end was near and in Perth I had read they only played Paradise City in the Encore. Then some Chinese images flashed on the screen and the sounds of Chinese people in a theatre echoed throught the arena and then the heavy hittin intro to 'Chinese Democracy' boomed through the speakers. What a great fucking song! Im sure my reaction to getting to hear it live was gay but can you blame me??? lol Then they followed up with Madagascar which is an epic song. I thought it sounded a little off but still no complaints as that aside its one of my faves. Paradise City is such a spectacle that you realize how lucky you are that Axl has kept this going and that you have truly seen one hell of a rock n roll show...it also confirmed that bands suck as Nickleback and Hinder are nothing more than a bunch of faggots and King Axl is making his return to reclaim his crown. Axl and the band then said good bye and Axl lead the crowd into the classic 'Aussie,Aussie,Aussie' chant. After 2 and a half hours it was over and my dream of seeing GnR live had been fulfilled and I felt relieved I had flown to Adelaide for the trip as I now had two more shows to take in with home town advantage! Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: stolat on June 16, 2007, 10:34:32 PM In today's Sunday Mail (Adelaide paper), the Sunday Mail photographer, Simon Cross talks of how he was invited back to Axl's Hyatt Penthouse after the show to take some photos. About 30 people were in the room, there were 3 trolleys of spirits, eskys of beer and trays of Red Bull. A band member? was playing Elton John and Beatles songs on the piano.......
Axl told Simon how he loves wallabies and has a few of them as pets. Everyone was relaxed and happy and the band members said that they have never seen Axl so happy after a concert!! He played a bit of piano and talked about his cigar collection. The party went on for 4 hours until they all departed for the airport. I'll try and get the photo of Axl, Baz, Robin and Ron up for you soon! Another review by Kate Mickan says that the concert drew the biggest crowd that the Entertainment Centre has seen in a long time!!! Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: kuetastic on June 17, 2007, 07:06:47 AM Belated Review.
Worth every cent I payed to travel from Canberra to see the show. Got to Adelaide around ten in the morning and quickly sampled a number of local pubs and beers, decided to get some sleep before the show and didn't wake up until five and thought we would have no hope of getting a good spot anymore, was very surprised to see only around fifty to a hundred people in line once I got to the entertainment center so I headed over the road for a couple of bourbons to keep me chilled out in line. In the space of thirty minutes things really picked up and my anticipation and realization kicked in that we were only hours from an experience I've waited half my life for. Things moved smoothly and we even managed time for a rum inside the venue and to grab some merchandise before we grabbed a vantage point I couldn't have dreamed of mere meters from the stage. I was pretty upset that the only merchandise that seemed to mention Australia was a key/wallet strap but happy with my shirt and of course, stubby holder. Rose Tattoo wasted no time in getting things started and were solid throughout, I'll be looking for the new album as soon as I recover from the debt this holiday put me in although I get the feeling they are a live/pub band more than enjoyable on disc. A truly Australian touch that sat well with most. Never was a big Skid Row fan but its obvious why Sebastian is in tow, one giant ball of energy start to finish. Incredible to witness his enthusiasm and I gained a new respect for his vocal abilities and I would be the first to see him headline a show next time round. One problem was he seemed to be hanging around way to long, perhaps getting messages from backstage which became a concern to anyone who may be following the 06' tour but at the same time built my anticipation for G'N'R even more. I truly expected to wait another hour after sound check for the lights to go, it seemed like seconds. The opening line was nothing near what I have seen in other recent concert recordings yet something I will never forget, Welcome To The Jungle was never a favorite of mine and seeing it live didn't much change my opinion. Axl took some time to warm to the occasion it seemed but by the time Live And Let Die came around he was firing on all cylinders. LALD is another song I have skipped a lot over the years, as is YCBM yet these were probably the best performed songs of the night, vocals, guitar, everything. Its is quite obvious in these tracks that Guns are a well oiled banned not Axl and hired help. The whole set was amazing in terms of the bands compatibility and timing. I've heard so much about how they don't gel well on stage and I have no idea where this comes from, what concert are these people watching? If anything Fink sometimes stuck out like a sore thumb and Frank blended in with the backdrop but Guns'N'Roses today rival the line up of any past in regard to performing as the one unit and doing so happily enough. Promising. I'm not sure if anybody else noticed but a number of times Richard (from memory, maybe others as well) strummed opening lines to something and got a lot of humorous response from Axl and the band until eventually Axl said "No!" and laughed. Perhaps something new is coming soon? or perhaps just an inside joke. Everyone was in a very, very good mood and to me personally it didn't seem to be the good mood a holiday in Adelaide would put you in more like somebody had received some good news of late. Probably reading to much into it but what the hell, its fun to speculate. Amazing set list and hearing Madagascar and The Blues live is something I truly appreciate. Other highlights were the KOHD sing along of course and the Don't Cry solo although the crowd participation left a lot to be desired on both accounts. LALD has been stuck in my head for days. Lowlights, Adelaide itself. I'm sorry for you locals and I realize it was a Wednesday night but the place seems horrid. I spent the night at the Casino where I seen a few die hard Skid Row fans and a few roadies and television 'stars' before heading back to the hotel at eight in the morning and hungry for more. Pretty sad when the highlight excluding the concert was looking through the bars into Adelaide Oval and checking out some memorial statues and architecture. Haha perfect place for a Stones concert. Everybody was either staking out the hotel straight across the road or heading home to bed. Anybody with photos, video, merch, promotion etc from the night whether the venue, streets, concert or bars looking for a buyer PM me. Title: Re: June 13 Adelaide Updates Post by: Voodoochild on June 17, 2007, 07:57:35 AM Great review man! Thanks!
