Title: Amy Winehouse
Post by: Mattman on June 09, 2007, 12:38:58 PM
Anybody been listening to this chick's stuff?  I only heard "Rehab", but it's pretty damn good...kind of reminds me of that 60s girl group stuff, except with lyrics about getting shitfaced.

i think there'll be lot of girls acting like posers with eye make up like that  :hihi:

As far as her, the music is pretty, she looks alright, but she's a crappy stage performer. Just watch a video of her, she barely moves onstage, and she look nervous all the time, not to mention she hardly understandable when she sings.

that she is violently ugly.

a few years back she was OK (and only when she was well done up). Now she looks like a 40yr old transvestite hooker who has been dragged backwards through a hedge.

I swear *she* is a transvestite - look at that jaw, she was a man once

I thought modern music had special filters in place to ensure only beautiful people got through the net?

...and she didnt get through on quality, a song about rehab - er...yeah right

You know that it's a song about not going to rehab, yeah?, not rehab itself, yeah?

Of course you do!, why would you not have ample experience of her or her music, being that you have chosen to comment on it...

She is aweful IMO.

She is a classic example of people who jump on a band wagon coz a artist is "different".

Can she sing yeah, ok. Is it any good? No.

Alot of my friends like her and say she is original and i laugh coz one she isn't original and even if she is its only coz its so shit no one else would dream of making that kinda music.

Where will she be in 5 years . . nowhere.

I wish her all the luck in the world, but i think she is boring and just another time fill in this dime-a-dozen young independant female field

Ahh, I see. A pointer of my own; if you dream up (that which you believe to be) a witty retort*, don't use it at the first opportunity; they work much better when they actually apply. I've actually listened to the album which the song is on, and I like it. Not that it matters, because pretty much anybody who has heard the song in question would have a pretty good idea of what exactly the song is about. Though, that of course does not extend to everybody. I mean, you can colour it your way,

a song about rehab

and claim to "know what it's about", but that is like saying a song about anorexia is a song about food.

* Well, really it's regurgitation, whether you perceive it as such or not. But we all do it, ho hum. It's just a pity that your regurgitation was akin to roast beef being brought back up as sick, and little more.

Read a lot about this girl on brazillian Rolling Stone and now I just saw Rehab at Youtube.

Sorry, it's just annoying to me.

I would go with Joss Stone any time. Just because this girl acts like a bad girl doesn't mean shit to me, her voice and the song sucks.

If you do not eat and yet get drunk all the time, you surely can't hold your liquor.

I didn't expect much from Winehouse at first since i got to know her via articles about her being loud mouthed and stuff. I just thought she was a Courtney Love wannabe. After a month or two I checked on her song Rehab on youtube and was struck by her voice and her style.? I bought her album and wasn't dissatisfied with it as it bears lots of influences from the 60ies. Definitely more interesting than Avril Lavigne singing "hey you i don't like your girlfriend"? wearing awful pink dresses, horrible make up? and looking like a punk sweet candy,? ::)

she was at hultsfredsfestivalen in sweden wich i attended.. she was so drunk onstage.. not funny drunk, pathetic drunk.. she didn't care for the crowd and only had her back turned against the crowd and between songs she chit chatted with her bass player or something, but not in the mic so it's was all dull, i left after rehab and lined up for for 50 cent :hihi: that's another story

I think she is a real talent and I've seen her play live twice at the same venue.  The first time was around 3 years ago and there were about 150 people there and she was (as far as i could tell) completely sober and owning the stage.  Her voice was on top form and pretty much every person in the room was deadly quiet cause she was that damn good.

Then I saw her maybe just under a year ago before she started promo for the recent album.  Same small venue (350 capacity) and this time it was sold out.  She came on stage wasted and stumbled around looking a bit stupid.  However, her voice was spot on again and I was really impressed.

The reason she sells loads of records is because she has a unique vocal style and great songwriters.  It's pop music disguised as something quirky - and it works.

I'll take a moment to advertise how out of touch I am and admit that I had no idea who she was until this weekend.  I heard the song Rehab on the radio and immediately loved it.  It's like Phil Spector/Ronettes with an edge.  Really good stuff.  On my ipod all the time the last 2 days.

Think I might get the album.

I doubt she' (or the label) will worry about the staying power in the US - in an ideal world yes, but in the real world no British artist is expected ot have longevity in the US.  She has shifted a lot of units over there for a UK artist though in comparison to her peers.

She played at Lollapollooza in Chi-town and everyone who went to see her said she looked like she totally didn't want to perform and could have fallen asleep on the stage. I didn't go so I can't vouch for this.

But, she does need to clean up a bit and not mix so many uppers then downers - holy shit her system! It doesn't know what to do. If you go onto tmz.com today you'll see a picture of her all cut up along with her hubby. Seems she is trying to get clean on her own and was weak and was about to do drugs with a hooker and the hubby walked in and said she wasn't worth his time and she tried to cut him but he saved her from doing drugs! She said she was cutting herself so she wouldn't take a hit off the crack pipe.

I do think she is talented but more addicted than even Anna Nicole Smith. Would be a shame if she can't get some help or kick some habits and the same thing happens.

We'll have to see about the whole US thing though. I know plenty who like her. And I can't liken her to Knarls Barkley cause I wasn't crazy about Crazy - it seemed like a rip off of Seal's Crazy but with a more upbeat feeling.

Winehouse flees hotel, bloodied

LONDON (AP) -- A British newspaper splashed photos of singer Amy Winehouse bloody and bruised across its Friday edition after she allegedly had a fight with her husband.

The photos, supposedly taken early Thursday morning, showed Winehouse wearing blood-soaked ballet shoes, with bruises to her neck, bandages on her arms and makeup smeared down her face.

However, a gossip website reported that Winehouse had said her injuries were self-inflicted.

Police confirmed they had been called to an incident at a London hotel by a concerned member of the public but said no charges were filed.

The singer announced Tuesday that she was postponing her upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour dates after she cancelled August performances due to "severe exhaustion."

Britain's Press Association said the couple were staying in the hotel after leaving a drug rehabilitation clinic in Essex, east of London.

The Daily Mail also published photos of Winehouse together with her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, after the alleged fight. His face and neck were covered in scratches.

U.S. gossip website perezhilton.com said it received text messages from Winehouse explaining the incident and denying Fielder-Civil was responsible for her injuries.

"Blake is the best man in the world. We would never ever harm each other," the Web site quoted Winehouse as saying. "I was cutting myself after he found me in our room about to do drugs . . . and rightly said I wasn't good enough for him. I lost it and he saved my life."

Sweet way to kickoff a tour.  At least when Axl goes on late he plays a full show (mostly) and isn't stumbling drunk.

this is what drugs and alcohol do to artists.

Shes practically been giving an amazing opportunity of being famous, lots of money, travelling around the world, but no, she goes and fucks it all up cause she wants to snort some lines.

At least crue still did good shows even though they were totally fucked.
And aerosmith (minus the different line up years).

SHOCKER! Winehouse Cancels Tour!

Posted Nov 27th 2007 1:09PM by TMZ Staff

Wreckamess Amy Winehouse has canceled all of her remaining appearances for the rest of the year, The Sun is reporting today.

The singer looked frail and nearly incoherent in a recent performance. Rumors are that she's out of control since her husband was imprisoned on charges of interfering with an investigation.

The Sun quoted her as saying, "I can't give it my all onstage without my Blake. I'm so sorry but I don't want to do the shows half-heartedly. I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it's just not the same."

Ticketholders will get refunds.

Amy Winehouse Arrested -- Allegedly "Perverts Justice"

Posted Dec 18th 2007 1:31PM by TMZ Staff

Yes yes yes! Singer Amy Winehouse has been arrested on suspicion of "perverting the course of justice" -- the UK's version of interfering with a police investigation.

TMZ has confirmed that the arrest was made "by appointment" in London today.

Last month, Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was arrested for the same thing -- related to the case of an alleged assault on a bartender last June.

Winehouse recently canceled her UK tour, supposedly because she was too upset over the arrest of Mr. Winehouse.

Someone, anyone ... please help!

Story developing ...

I've heard a really wacky rumour about Amy that I'm posting not for its sensationalist value. It's quite funny if you think about it.

Anyway, here it is. There is something going around that she is Slash's illegitimate love child or something.

There is a facial resemblance!  :nervous:

They granted it last minute, but apparently it was too late to bring her ensemble to America.  I thought her performance was alright, I would have rather seen her do Valerie or Tears Dry On Their Own.......but she looked rather well tonight as comparable to recent pictures.  They need to put it to that girl because I actually want to see her make it.  Her sound is very unique in this day and age of crappy Jessica Simpson shit.  If she were to focus 100% on her music she could be a major name in the biz for a long time to come.
