Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Mike McKagan on June 07, 2007, 03:49:11 AM They actually do sound kinda McKagan, though, if you've ever heard some of the stuff on his "Believe In Me" CD.
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: babydolls on June 07, 2007, 05:31:24 AM I've read it was Duff who came up with the intro as well
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Booker Floyd on June 07, 2007, 05:44:53 AM I've read it was Duff who came up with the intro as well Any idea where you read it? Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: babydolls on June 07, 2007, 06:04:49 AM no idea mate, sorry. it was an article from ages ago. If I remember/find it - I'll re-post. Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: estrangedpaul on June 07, 2007, 08:15:43 AM the credits say Stradlin and Rose. Obviously they didn't come up with the drum intro lol. Drums are never credited in songwriting. I think Duff too, I'll try to find the source.Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: JMack on June 07, 2007, 09:21:00 AM Duff has been credited with alot of writing or filler that worked perfectly. Remember he wasn't only a bass man. He has a knack for polishing a tune or writing something off the cuff that fit in with what was going on at the time. Great rhythm bass player.
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: AxlsMainMan on June 07, 2007, 09:27:50 AM All of Duff's bass lines are brilliant.
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: RoCoKiN on June 07, 2007, 10:27:11 AM It couldn't have been Adler, there's no cowbell in it! LOL
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: pollyblue on June 07, 2007, 10:35:04 AM imo, these drums are the best of any gn'r song! lots of rhytm changes and nice fills. love to play that song!

Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Rocker_GNR on June 07, 2007, 12:22:53 PM the credits say Stradlin and Rose. Slash: We wrote that during "Appetite" and the arrangement never changed really. (You could be mine) you still believe in that credit ?, so , you think that Axl compused the riff , guitar solos, drum and bass base in November Rain/Estranged or Dead Horse...... Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: guns_n_motley on June 07, 2007, 12:43:25 PM axl was working on November rain since when Tracii guns was in the band
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Verse Chorus Verse on June 07, 2007, 04:07:58 PM Duff is awesome, and if he really did write the drum intro for YCBM - That's even more pwn going for him.

That is why he can take the credit. Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: vernset on June 07, 2007, 04:44:21 PM Listen to the last song in "Neurotic Outsiders" CD, composed by Mackagan and you will discover who wrote the intro to You colud Be mine. :peace:
Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Ali on June 07, 2007, 04:46:24 PM Duff came up with drum intro to "You Could Be Mine" as Matt said on an MTV special from the early 90's.
Ali Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: isa on June 07, 2007, 07:24:28 PM I read in some mag. that Steve did play the intro on YCBM n then on internet in some page 'bout GN'R songs, as for the cowbell, Civil War didn't have it neither.
But just Steve can say it, or any of them. Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: doooodickiebr on June 07, 2007, 10:03:05 PM All of Duff's bass lines are brilliant. not! mediocre at best! Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Sillything on June 09, 2007, 02:29:27 AM All of Duff's bass lines are brilliant. not!? mediocre at best! Eeh a matter of taste maybe? His work with gnr is wonderful and Velvet Revolver would be a lot worse without him I think Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Gunner80 on June 09, 2007, 01:50:59 PM All of Duff's bass lines are brilliant. not! mediocre at best! I never understood this- does anyone have an explaination about how songwriting credtis go ? I would think, if you're adding your own bit (a guitar solo, a bass line, a drum intro) you should get SOME credit... so how does it work ?! Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: kingcanute on June 09, 2007, 08:23:23 PM credits doesnt include arrangements but i read that duff came up with the intro... I never understood this-? does anyone have an explaination about how songwriting credtis go ? I would think, if you're adding your own bit (a guitar solo, a bass line, a drum intro) you should get SOME credit... so how does it work ?! Well, that wouldn't work too well, would it? Every band member adds to the song if you go into detail. Credits are given to the ones that wrote the song, meaning the basic structure, melody and lyrics. If you were to credit like, Duff for coming up with that amazing bassline starting at 01:22 into the song, most CD booklets would be books. I would think, if you're adding your own bit (a guitar solo, a bass line, a drum intro) you should get SOME credit... so how does it work ?! cant remember precisely, but the credits system for the band was worked out by slash. it mostly consisted of who made up the riff and who made up the lyrics. someone far harder working that i will dig out the article (from RS i seem to remember) that explains it. Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Steve McKagan on June 10, 2007, 05:14:01 AM It's also explained in "A band that time forgot" by Paul Stenning but I can't find it right now.

Melody Lyrics Arrangements All accounting for 25% each. At least that's what my memory seem to think. Title: Re: The Drums On "You Could Be Mine" Post by: Steve McKagan on June 10, 2007, 05:55:57 AM And also something that Axl, after the calculation, got 40% and Adler 10%. Someone has to find the quote!
