Title: (GN'R Ultimate)Editing project....
Post by: gummyfish on June 06, 2007, 07:12:26 PM
i decided to do a GN'R editing project. My goal/mission is to gather several of the best performances of as many GN'R songs as i can, combine this and that from different performances, and make them into individual tracks. all i need is to find decent(free) software to do so, and u, listeners of GN'R ,to make suggestions of particular live performances to use. post away....? i shall christen this project: GN'R Ultimate.

P.S. if u think this thread is stupid, please dont post in it.?

You do understand that.. the band will play everything at slightly different tempos each time?

They're not machines.

...Or are they?

are you sure its possible? as far as I know you need the recorded masters to attempt to do that...

You plan on seperating these from the rest of the track, how?

Sounds like a great idea, but I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to split up the individual instruments.

Ok, best thing you can do, if you have a MAC, get Garageband, if you have a PC, get the Acid Music program. With these programs, you can at the very least separate and edit songs......that's it though. You can take out and edit a drum part from a song in '91 and add it to the same song in '06 for example......that's it though. Unless you have actual track masters for each of the live songs, let alone studio songs.....you won't be able to do exactly what you want to do unfortunately. I know where you're goin' with your idea though, sounds really cool.

Geniuses are of two types: those  who come up with the ideas, and those who make them  happen.

If its audio you are doing then this might help http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/ If I remember correctly it only allows you to save a third of the track you've done on the free download, so just cut and paste it, then? twice add it (the full track) to the end : ok: It will then delete the 2 that you've added :hihi:

Good luck man - sounds like a huge amount of work - if you can isolate the tracks sound forge can change the tempos but I have no idea how you'll be able to make it sound right.

you could just rename the studio track, say you did it, and call it a day

this could be done. but not very well with the software you probably have in mind.

the recordings you would need would have to be top quality. (so no audience recorded boots for a start)
then there is the issue with the bands timings... which can be altered very easily, but it is a serious ball ache, which takes alot of time.

it is possible to seperate certain tracks, like filtering vocals out of the tracks... drums also... but when it comes to seperating guitars (rhythm from lead) that will be harder as they are the same frequencies.

but even then, someone without the experience of such things is always going to have spill from other instruments in their seperate tracks. so it will sound like a mess.

in my opinion... it wasnt even worth me writing this, as im basically just saying, there is no point what so ever.

make some DVD artwork or something :)

Good Luck But there's a lot (a ton) of other added stuff that gets added to albums and c.d.s live or studio.  You would need pro equipment and masters.

yeah, masters would make this truely possible. but its not going to happen... wonder how long before this is locked.
