What would really be funny is if the auction ended and ebay decided to charge you for the final selling fee with the percentage included.  You'd have a nice $100,000 deduction out of your checking account!  Imagine going to the ATM machine to take out $20 bucks and seeing $-99,980.   Now that would be super funny.

Looks like that's what happened.

I have a $150,000 + sales charge to pay eBay. I have to file an Unpaid Item Report if he doesn't pay within the next eight days. They claim it takes an additional seven days afterwards for the refund to clear. So, until then, I owe them almost two hundred grand.

US $165,023.40 to be exact.

He's a good guy. He agreed to delete his account so that I can immediately file an Unpaid Item Claim and get my money back. As much as an ass as he was for bidding $11 million on toilet paper, he could have been a prick about this and caused me more grief over it, so I'm thankful that he agreed to cooperate.

Yes because until the seller goes through the proper routes to take care of the unpaid item, he is still liable to ebay because it is a binding agreement between the seller and ebay also.  That's how ebay makes money, you have to pay them to sell your stuff.  They get a percentage of your final selling fee. It's like 10% I believe.
