Title: Jerky Video (... Problem)
Post by: Jim on May 27, 2007, 04:39:53 PM
My laptop is a few years old now, and I'm going to buy a new PC in the next few months, so it's not the biggest problem of my life, but it sure is fucking annoying.

For the past however long, my laptop's ability to play videos has been eratic to say the least. Often it will start running them fine, but then, more often than not, the video will start to stutter... It will run slowly, while the sound continues, and it will go out of sync. This can happen at any time between a couple of minutes to thirty minutes in. Sometimes it's if there's a lot going on on the screen, other times for no noticeable reason. This goes for anything, absolutely anything, DVD's, .avi files, shit quality streams... I know that the old boy is getting on a bit, but surely it shouldn't be having problems playing fucking videos.

Is there anything I can do, anything that may be causing this, anything you can tell me, besides the fact that I have a shitty laptop?

it's classic,
the players get old.
try blowing "dry air" into the player.

other idea, instead of using a dvd program. get vlc or media player classic and playthe vob files directly (no menus and all, but at least it can work).

if you really wanna watch the dvd porperly, rip it, and play it from the HD.

then buy a new computer, you poor porn lover loser.

Run ccleaner or something similar; ad-aware, spybot etc.

I had the same problem with mine, I got 1.73 Ghz Pentium with 1,5 gigs of RAM and I'm using XP pro. The only solution for me was to format my hd and install a new copy of windows xp.

Make sure you have the most recent drivers too.  If it's not spyware, then it's probably a video card or sound card driver issue.  I reinstall of Windows never hurt anything :)  You can pay $5 to one of these online backup companies, and backup your entire hard disk first too, before you do the reinstall.

I'm sorry, Jim, I'm not a computer person and I can't answer your question.

The only advice I have for you is to stop watching so much porn and get back to your school work.    :P

Actually, funny bollocks, I had my final exam last Friday. (I wasn't keen on the sound of "last exam last Friday") So, I'm free to porn myself out, if so I desire, whenever I want. Not that I would be interested in that kind of thing... Not that, really, anything would have stopped me doing that before last Friday. Bah! Besides. I needed my Lost fix anyway, and being up at uni means I have no tv. Well, I have a tv, but a tv with about one channel. But I got it to just about struggle it's way through, and I'm done with the final episode. My biggest suprise was that people considered the "flasforward" a suprise/twist. I thought that right from the word go it was screaming flashforward! I'm gutted that Charlie and Tom died though.

Err... So yeah. Anyway.

Cheers guys.
